It's making him look like a terrible, inflexible coach if he has no yield or contingency whatsoever. Especially so when he's not getting the best out of a single player at his disposal.

It's easy to pile on Jorginho all season because the same things will keep happening, perhaps even worse as his last dribs of confidence erode, but he's not the one to be pointing the finger at if nothing in the system being played is adjusted.
Of course his rigid manager plays a big role in this but I'm still talking about Jorginho in particular instance where he has space and options but still resort to pointless sideways passing. Last night, he had several opportunities to speed things up but he always went for the safe and slow option.
You got the wrong the idea if you think I'm singling him out but this is his thread so his individual performance will be the main focus.

I think the running commentary in here will repeat on itself until the manager changes something

If I were barely able to run and knew any bad pass I made would be resultant in me having to do so, I'd be hesitant too.

Thing is, DLP's are about as frequently used as classic #10's these days. Both are an absolute liability if you don't completely build your side around them, almost to the point of single point failure.

Even at his very best, Jorginho is hardly a beacon of the role, so the concessions needed to enable him to play his game to it's absolute best, barely seem worthwhile; if anyone in that team should have a bespoke set-up, it's Hazard, not Jorginho.

Still think we need someone like him in our team, although he was completely shackled last night.

To be fair the entire midfield is a mess. Kanté is doing alright but he isn't at his best, while the other two midfielders have undefined roles and provide absolutely nothing, they don't defend, don't move the ball effectively through passes or dribbles, they provide no goal threats too.

Also Kovacic is a shadow of the player he looked like he would become at Inter. Pointless player these days.

He is one of the players I had in mind, whether they use Barkley or Kovacic the LCM is pointless. While Jorginho was hyped a little bit too much, there is a massive difference between playing with Hamsik, Insigne and Mertens, these players are actually making themselves available all the time for easy passes, someone like Callejon is always making sharp runs too.

He always has options. people are making excuses because its the type of continental player they like/obsess over.
If he was isolated and was bereft of options he wouldn't have one of the highest passing stats in the league. (I haven't seen the up to date stats but he was number one for successful passes for a long period of time)

I don't know about that. A manager can influence things greatly of course but it doesn't change the fact he's shite (like Lukaku who is still shite despite the manager's change that has positively affected most of the squad).

Exactly. High passing percentages mean nothing in we don't go into details about how it's actually significant or not.

Why must he play at DM? Why not as one of the 2 advanced CM's in front of the DM?

Because Sarri sees him as a regista and has decided playing with one is vital for him. Kante is not a regista.
People keep bleating on about Kante's position but playing Kante and a DM means Sarri would have to change his entire system from top to bottom.

I wouldn't call Jorginho one either presently, his passing range isn't good enough especially when there is pressure put on him. It's unfortunate for that lad as when he first came he did well. But this is the PL, teams sussed him out quickly, you don't get the time and space you get in Italy and now he's basically a passenger, and every team knows now to press him.

He doesn't have to. He can a 4-2-3-1 with Kante and Jorginho both double pivot. His mind is to stubborn to think of that.

He feels the best way he can educate the team on his positional play philosophy is by getting them used to a 433. Most coaching articles I've read say a 433 formationn is the easiest way to master the style, where each of the three midfielders have clearly defined roles, knowing the positions they take on the pitch relative to the ball. Once they are fully adept, he can tinker with the formation. Its not working atm but there's certainly reasons why he's doing what he's doing. He's not just making it up.
This is probably for the Sarri thread but I think they should stick with Sarri and back him. Chelsea knew what they were getting when they signed him.

His current system is shite, doesn't work and there's absolutely zero guarantee it will ever work for Chelsea in the future to take the risk and endure humiliation. He either tweaks it for it to succeed in England or he gets sacked. There's no other option for him.

Does that really make much of a difference? If Jorginho is being pressed or man marked it still requires Kanté to take up a creative role which he is far too limited to do.

I’d revert to a 3-5-1-1, keep Jorginho as regista and Kanté as one of the two flanking central midfielders but play Luiz as a libero so he can push up next to Jorginho and play penetrating passes when Jorginho is pressed.

Must be absolutely kicking himself that he passed up the opportunity to go to City.

Sarri not far off getting the boot and he suddenly might find himself in a terrible position given his unique position/skillset - there aren't that many managers that play with a Regista.

One thing I don't understand is all the pundits (and Wenger apparently) coming out and saying Jorginho is playing in Kante's position and that the latter is better as DM or deeper in midfield.

But Matic was the holding DM and freeing Kante to go be the ball winner when they last won the league title under Conte. He played in a CM duo then and he was the more advanced of the two. And he did more than fine that was arguably is best season.

My point is that I think all those guys are confusing Jorginho being utterly shit for this league and Chelsea not adapting well to a 4-3-3 with Kante being played out of position. Chelsea's midfield is imbalanced because Jorginho is shit and Kovacevic/Barkley seem nothing special. Not because Kante is played out of position.

When Sarri leaves, Jorginho will probably follow. He was fairly anonymous last night, but to be fair I don't think any Chelsea player could say they had a good game.

Most ex-player pundits are clueless and just jump on the bandwagon.

They’ve also all decided to go with the catchphrase “Kanté’s the best player in the world in that role!” despite being neither a regista or a holding midfielder. Even amongst players in the Premier League with similar attributes to Kanté, Fernandinho is clearly a far superior player in almost every aspect of his game. And he actually can play as a holding midfielder!

No man.
We do not need someone like Jorginho in our team.
I don't mean him exactly, but someone in similar style. Someone who can control the play and hold the ball for us.

Basically we need to buy Veratti. Or somehow regenerate Pirlo.

So pretentious to use one word that everyone knows the meaning of instead of unnecessarily describing a role in the team every time.

Kante is kind of playing out of position as well though and it's hurting them. It's the balance in midfield that is all wrong. He is still in similar areas to where he was, but Sarri is playing him in a completely different role than where he played when he's won everything. Chelsea just don't have the correct balance in the centre, not even close to be honest.

I know, right? Like door, pffft I hate that pretentious word too. I much prefer "a hinged, sliding, or revolving barrier at the entrance to a building, room, or vehicle"
