You can almost hear the massive sigh of relief from everyone. What is it with 3-2 wins against Southampton that are nerve wracking? :)

Oddly my niece was 4 the same day we won the League Cup against Southampton and its her 6th birthday party today, shes a lucky omen :)

What a fecking game! We can’t be crisp every single match especially with injuries. Sometimes you just gotta win it ugly and with spirit. Fantastic from the lads.
Yes, but I don't think United won this ugly. We created a lot of chances. Southampton scored two long-range goals (and by De God's ridiculously high standards, he will be disappointed to have let them in, especially the first one). One another day, this could have ended 4-0 to United.

We need a right back. Why not play Dalot as a right wing? He has pace and can cross too.

Delighted to get the win especially after they made it 2-2.
Also delighted for Perreira.
We need a penalty taker.
We also badly need a right back.
Seems like we haven’t had a proper right back since Neville.
Well done Ole.

Old days are absolutely back!!

A very thrilling and fun match at OT with goals back and forth and dying minutes drama.

Great win.
First thought I had in my mind after the game. We had seen so many games like this under Fergie. The most satisfying thing is that Pereira and Dalot sparked the revival and Big Rom is finally banging in the goals!

Looked like we played better once Sanchez was off
Not even close. Night and day before and after.

I think today was the final nail in his career here. You could see he was a step too slow most of the time, very much off the pace, completely lost any speed/acceleration.

Dalot changed the game around for us and lifted everyone. We wouldn't have won if Sanchez stayed.

I can’t understand any of the negativity today. So many extenuating circumstances. Huge injury crisis, lots of games in a short period; Soton scoring screamers. And yet we pulled it out, with three academy players in midfield. It was dramatic, it was emotional, it was spirited, it was United!!!
This.

Ugly may have been the wrong word in this context — it was certainly no walk in the park though and we had to claw our way out of it — but it still applies generally. I’m buzzing though.

I can remember them nerve-wracking ever since a late Dennis Irwin penalty in a 2-1 win.

Cannot wait for these cnuts to go down. They always seem to raise their game against us.

Felt like old United, to comeback twice.

What a master stroke it seems by Ole yo be giving Dalot time in midfield and wide right. I'd still prefer him instead of young but he looks a proper player. In time he could be our star at right back. Shame Chong isn't getting more minutes but we need to be winning comfortably for him to get on.. and that wasn't today!

The half witted part was you calling Pogba a disgrace for it. And then framing it as an act of petulance for being asked to play deep. Basically creating a malicious narrative that you had zero evidence to support.
Apologies i took your point to be the words you actually used.

Malicious narrative ffs, I'm saying he made a bad decision then got stroppy not framing him for murder. Some really can't take any bad words against their favourite players

Laborious, but we grinded out a win, and a potential 4-2 scoreline (had Pogba scored the pen) would've flattered us.

Sanchez completely off the pace. He's small, no longer has the acceleration, and looks completely done as a top-flight footballer. Maybe in a slower league, he'd still do well, but not in the PL, against physical defenders. He's done.

Lukaku's a bit of a conundrum. His touch is genuinely awful, but give him a half chance and he's a pretty good finisher.

Rashford a little bit selfish, and Pogs was shackled. Overall, I thought Southampton pressed us really well, and gave our midfield no time on the ball whatsoever. Add on two worldies from them, and a large chunk of our first teamers missing, and it's more trouble than necessary.

You said he was a disgrace for not letting Lukaku take the penalty. He was throwing a strop for being asked to play deep. That was, and still is, a really stupid thing to say, regardless of whether Pogba is my favourite or least favourite player.

They scored? Had more possession? Played minute 5 to minute 35 on the edge of our box?

There's a bunch of negative shite posted on here during and after every game. To pick on my post, which was positive, is fecking bizarre, but crack on.
I brought you up on your post because generally speaking you're a pretty reasonable poster, looks like I might have to revise that.

Flawless logic. They spent that 30 minutes on the edge of that box did they? and managed to force a whopping 1 run-of-the-mill save from DDG. You know that's bullshit. We were creating chances, something Southampton didn't do, during this period. We should have been at least 2-0 after 15 minutes.

We had 60% possession in the first half...

Hopefully, Sanchez is out for a while.

OGS deserves a lot of credit for that win. That was a sophisticated tactical change going to a 3-5-2, moving Andreas up, Pogba back, and putting Dalot on the wing. I really thought Young would play forward and Dalot at right back when the sub was mentioned. Good stuff from OGS.

Dalot did more in his first ten minutes then Sanchez did in the first half. It's quite possible that is the last we will see of Sanchez especially if his injury keeps him sidelined for a month. If OGS becomes permanent, and I don't see how he doesn't get the job, I hope his first move is to change some people in the scouting department. Sanchez and Fred are just inexcusable mistakes. Most knew that Sanchez was on his last legs but not our scouts.

McTominay looked really good until he hurt his neck and the match changed when he wasn't himself.

And Pogba. Not giving Lukaku the chance for the hat-trick is disgraceful.
I disagree. It's definitely a nice notion. However, going against the team instructions for the sake of a romantic idea (needed to word that better!) is not good. The fact Pogba took it and there were no arguments is a good sign. No questions asked...just get on with it mantra.

Also, if Lukaku had have taken it and skewiffed it, then it brings negativity all over again. Allow him his game changing day at the office.

How can you complain after a win against a tricky opponent that has only been beaten once in years.

And also with so many injuries and several tired players. A win is a win.
A quite magnificent win when all momentum seemed to be against us.

Brilliant game, i think it's safe to say Manchester United are back.
Absolutely. It's been like this for weeks now. Under Jose every now and then a wild game was had, swiftly followed by dire mediocrity at best. United is back, with all the tension and nerves it used to bring.

Top 4, and only 3 off 3rd!
I'm loving that what I wished for might yet come true. Us 4th, Tottenham 5th...just to put well and truly to bed the idea of Poch being a shoo in ahead of Ole. But us 3rd and them 5th is absolutely fine by me!

Some might say Ole had a bit of luck today (some great quality goals) to get out a jam but good managers tend to look a bit lucky at times.

Onwards!
He's certainly getting his fair share of late. But each consecutive tweak he made turned to goal. Pereira more central areas in the second half....goal and as assist. Dalot on the right....assist and time and again opening up space not previously there. Pogba further forward at the end, pivot and more danger. Fred brought on...assist for the winner. Unbelievable.

Lukaku finished well. It's obvious he's a finisher but can't control well.

Pogba should be taken off pens tbf.

Shaw was good. Andreas (beside his goal) was terrible, so many misplaced passes and losses of possession.

Dalot coming on changed the game, Sanchez is a curse.
Decent overview. Pereira for his goal and assist was brilliant. Everything else was very ropey. But given the eventual difference his contribution made I'll cut him slack.

How good is Shaw of late?! Dalot is going to be the most dynamic and vital signing we've made in the coming years.

Sanchez....good lord. The footballing grim reaper is banging down his door. He should've come to us all those years ago after Udinese.

Agree that Pogba should be taken off penalties or at least completely change his run up. Some might argue that if he's in control of his run up and most of his eventual strikes are with conviction and accuracy, then what's the problem. I just feel that run up has potential to add a randomizer to an already nervous situation.

Havent seen game but presume lukaku fumbled 2 goals in? Just like his previous 100 premiership goals?
Hahah for once no, I am glad to report. Two stunningly precise right foot finishes. Finishes from rare opportunities that the likes of Aguero and Nistelrooy and so on would be proud of.

True, it was no walk in the park. It's amazing to see how this team is starting to resemble the United of old, displaying the same spirit, togetherness and quality at crucial moments.

Why isn't anyone praising Fred? He came for 10 minutes and got us a match winning assist
