Think it may be Bailley and Lindelof to start against PSG. Think Bailley would have had a full game today if not. Jones is a competant defender most of the time when he plays, but like Smalling, you know hes going to feck up every now and again. Hopefully if we get a better CD to play with Lindelof, I think one of Smalling and Jones might be let go. Rojo isnt even in the equation as he definitely will.
Bailly fecks up every now and again too, thats the story of our CBs. And if they dont feck up, they are injured. Thats why we need a competent partner for Lindelöf, who seems the least injury prone and error prone so far under Ole. The others can fight it out for squad and rotation spots.

It's like some people believe that the ideal defender is someone who rarely gets involved in any defending, but is decent on the ball.

Jones is always getting involved and snuffing out danger before it transpires. But when you live by the sword, you occasionally die by the sword. It's impossible to avoid that.

Jones' style is of huge benefit to United, even though it can land us in trouble sometimes. It's better that he does it than not.

True. Think that Bailley at his best is better than Smalling and Jones at their best. Remember when he first came to the club? He looked immense. Think hes about 24 so still got time to improve. Smalling is 29 so already at his peak and hasnt really improved much over the years. Same as Jones

I mean, the amount of times the quote about having to make a tackle means you made a mistake or whatever is posted on here means there definitely are people on here who think that. It's not even what the quote actually means.

Simple truth is that a lot of people don't know shit about how to defend properly. So if you aren't making mistakes it must mean your good, ignoring the part that while not making mistakes they are also not doing anything at all.

Remember that exact same season where Jones and Rojo had just as good spells? Smalling was also just as good under for a big spell under van Gaal. Meanwhile, Smalling has then been way more consistent since then and Jones has also been better over the last year and a half. There is nothing to actually support the claim that Bailly is our best CB and people are finally starting to realize it.

Lindelof is becoming our best CD.

Been that way for a while. Felt kind of surreal. Like people were watching a different player to me.

bailly, smalling and jones have their own weaknesses and strengths.

smalling: good in air, predictable, don't play from the back, habit of kicking ball aimlessly up in the air when under pressure
bailly: play from the back, confident, reckless, weak in air, calamity in waiting, habit of kicking ball aimlessly up in the air when under pressure
jones: play from the back, has occasional brainfarts, weak in air, injury prone

It's like choosing lesser of evils based on demand for a particular match.

That is the story for all centre backs for all teams, just they aren't as scrutinised as ours.

There are some who make less mistakes and less heavy ones than others, thats the key. Our CBs are pretty incomplete. They are not bad, but none of them are great either

Played well today I thought, but the guy must feel like he's won the pools after getting that contract. Ole brings the best out of the guys.

You do know why he and Jones played today right ? To rest Lindelof against stronger and more important opposition.
Lindelof has been playing really well if that is your point. Smalling has been out injured mate, so again I don't know what you are on about here. Let it go.

A dig at Lukaku and the previous manager with nothing poignant added, brilliant. A deflection from the mediocre players we have had in our defence for ages. Two of our fullbacks are converted wingers and we're still holding out for £15m for Darmian

This is a player that has missed games equivalent to 60% of the games he has played. Jones has made 208 appearances for us and missed 120 odd games for us.
It's not a dig at Lukaku, the question is why was 80M invested in an attacker and not defenders when we already have Rashford and Martial. It's about buying smart, it's not about breaking British transfer record.

Btw, when you laugh at Darmain transfer, don't forget to mention Shaw who was 19yrs old and the club paid 30M for him.

Decent enough and yet nearly scored an own goal. Sums him up.

EDIT: Whoops, thought it was the performance thread.

No worries, we prolonged the contract with him so we can sell him for 40 mln quid now.

Just any minute now.

If he gets injured he will cost us nothing in wages for that period. As all professional players he is insured by the club. I am sorry, but that is a really lazy and incorrect argument.
Umm are you under the impression that insurance is free?

We just gave him a new contract to keep his value up and sell him in the summer.
Who would buy him? Even Fulham would probably say no thanks. Much better off letting his deal expire and letting his money come off the books.

It was a joke. We are a shambles. Jones cant stay fit, hence is useless. He should just retire, but wont due to the wages he picks up here.

Exactly. Who came in for Darmian at the price we wanted? The idea we'll get big bucks for Jones is crazy. The people at the club are on one thinking that renewing contacts in hope of cashing in is smart.

Ah sorry it's been such a long day I can't even tell anymore. Was so painful to see Ole with tears in his eyes at the press conference.

Don't see anyone interested in buying someone who injures himself, doing normal routine slide tackles. Absolute crock of shite, Mr Calamity Jones!
