Really good post. For example if you put Cristiano as a winger doing defensive duties because your team isn't good enough to control the ball and push up then you'd get a much worse Ronaldo. We need to enable Pogba's best attributes (attacking midfielder play, creative passer) and play with a system that allows that to occur. We are currently playing on the counter so therefore asking Pogba to run back and defend, then run up 50 yards on the otherside of the pitch and create everything and then when he loses it, run back 50 yards and defend. Its just not humanely possible unless you are 3 Lungs Park.
I'm 100% confident if Pogba leaves and goes to Madrid and they start playing like the madrid of 3-4 years ago dominating 99% of teams, then Pogba will be scoring and assisting even more than he is now and we will have posters on here saying "Look, now he isnt lazy" but they just missed the whole context around why he was playing the way he is here.

Our system just isn't conducive to great players shining at the height of their powers.

Funny you mention Ronaldo, https://www.theguardian.com/football/2011/apr/28/cristiano-ronaldo-jose-mourinho-defensive

Ronaldo said of a defeat to Barca and how Jose set up the team...
"No, I don't like it but I have to adapt to what is asked of me." He added: "This is the way it is. We have a strategy."
Sounds eerily familiar doesn't it to Pogba's quotes earlier in the season about not enjoying how they play football?

Pogba in a functioning Real side will hit 15 goals a season from centre mid I reckon with another 10-15 assists as well probably.

Berbatov gives his thoughts on Pogba who he has played with and knows well. Quotes below.

The Bulgarian was also keen to offer his opinion on who United should keep, insisting his former employers must do everything to tie down Paul Pogba.

'Why is Pogba the problem?,' he added. 'They criticise some players more than others, which is unfair. You cannot escape criticism in one form or another — we all have phones and are on social media.

'He's not a robot, but if you don't feel appreciated, what do you do? Go somewhere else. But leaving would be a mistake.

'I really hope Ole will tell Pogba he will build the team around him to give him the confidence to perform at his best.

'I have first-hand experience of how good Pogba can be when he trained with us as kid and he is a good boy as well.

Pogba needs to know he has a player to cover his back, he needs to have the freedom to make decisive passes. It doesn't matter if he makes mistakes as he is trying difficult passes.'

When did we become such a forgiving set of fans? It seems that the worse Pogba performs the more the mob on here come out to defend him. I’ve used the word useless to describe his more recent outings for us and I think that’s the kindest word I could have chosen. Keano knows a lot more than most about top level midfield play and he describes Pogba as a bluffer. If Real Madrid are prepared to pay big money for him, then bring it on.

I don't view it as forgiving for simply thinking we shouldn't sell our best players.

If we were going to sell Pogba, I would rather it be next summer. We still need Pogba to sell/pitch to other players on our rebuilding project.

22% of the time actually. 64% of the time he’s walking. A higher % than any other PL midfielder.

These stats are kind of hard to unbundle. His % jogging and “low speed running” are also unusually low. And the overall distance is pretty good, with sprints more or less on the median. So that’s good, right?
What an age we live in! Jogging and walking stats! 86% of the time not busting a gut is quite damning. It just doesn't pass the eye test in either case, even on attack sometimes he's just ambling around not really doing anything in any position to influence. I think his anticipation in general is pretty poor, if at the very least he was on his bike a little bit more off the ball then it wouldn't look to the eye as bad.

Who should we replace him with? Its easy for Keane to say the things he's saying now, forgetting that he was well below his best for a season and a half before he left, and instead of showing leadership he threw his toys out of the pram in that infamous MUTV interview and took his frustration out on young players like Ronaldo and Fletcher, and even a senior player in Rio.

I get he was frustrated by Chelsea's rise to prominence and he was concerned about our lack of quality signings, but he just showed what a spoiled fecking brat he was the minute things went down hill because he always had it good at united until that point. It wasn't even that bad then as we never finished below 3rd under Fergie. I laugh when he talks about leadership and bluffers. I wonder how he would've fared in this post Fergie United

People are making so much of this crap, without even knowing what these stats are for other players. There's nowhere to find them, they release them when they please

Scholes refused to play in a League Cup game and was fined 2 weeks wages. That's what you call a serious attitude and ego problem.

People who know Pogba and and have spoken to him describe him as a very polite person. Andy Mitten is just one of them people. Players who have played with Pogba in Italy, France and even at United describe him as a great guy to have around the dressing room. Berbatov being the latest in talking up the good attitude of Pogba.

It's fair to point out that until the very end of his career, Roy Keane, a player who's legacy at United and in the Premier League goes far and above what Pogba, and most players to be fair can dream of, had been an outstanding leader in an outstanding club.

Let's not sully the names of players infinitely better than Pogba for simply this club because Pogba currently has a cult of worshippers who won't hear any criticism of him...

Pogba should be brilliant, he should be the best midfielder in the world. He wants everything to revolve around him but yet, people wont accept when he's held responsible for the failures. It just doesn't work like that.

Pogba could silence many of his critics by performing consistently, demonstrating a level of maturity on the pitch that inspires his teammates, and fans alike. He's good enough to do so, if there's anyone who doubts that then they are an idiot. But he seems to lack an intelligence that separates the true greats, from the pretenders.

Pogba was voted in the team of the season. He's the first outfield United player to do that since SAF left. The PL players voted him as our best player this season.

He is not the problem. He is not a problem. If you think he's the problem then you are wrong.

We have many problems. Can people stop taking the media bait and acting like someone who was voted in the PFA team of the year is one of them. Seriously just cop the feck on and think critically for a fecking change.

Ashley Young is giving the ball away 30 times a game. De Gea is costing us a goal a game. None of our strikers have scored in weeks. But PFA team of the year midfielder Paul Pogba needs to be sold in order for us to move forward.

And yet, nobody is absolving any of these players for their mistakes and stupidity on the pitch...

Pogba though, he can do no wrong, to those who are incapable of seeing, it seems.

Pogba needs to improve. As to whether he's sold, much, much better players have been sold, and the club has survived. If you think he's bigger than the club, you don't deserve help...

It's Manchester United, no Pogchester United.

Of course he is not THE problem but there’s absolutely no way he is deserving of being in the team of the year. He's not even close close to being worthy of it. Largely mediocre for most of the season, dropped by Mourinho for several games (his manager for most of the season), dreadful recently...

We have many problems and Pogba is part of them. He’s massively talented but if he’s worth £150m or so, we don’t see anything close to that level on a weekly basis. It’s not even close. I just think he’s largely been a failure and it’s been 3 years of (at best) middling performances. Maybe he goes to Madrid and sets the world alight but for us he’s a luxury that hasn’t delivered.

Well that post is nothing but projection. It's fair comment to say someone voted in the team of the year shouldnt be sold.

Dont remember trying to rename the club. Didn't say he was bigger than the club. Just stop

Eriksen should have got it imo. The fact that the players voted for Paul suggests he had a good season though. Maybe 4th best midfielder as opposed to 3rd. Not exactly sure how that cant be twisted to be a failure. So much cognitive dissonance on here when it comes to Pogba.

Nor do I remember saying he should be sold, but I hold him in high regard as I recognise his talent and ability. So when he doesnt live up to the level he should, then I am going to criticise him. None of the flakey excuses rolled out in this thread, from world cup winner, to claims of racism will change the fact he's below the level he should be.

Keane did great things at United, but the first time our strangle hold on the league was properly challenged he did the unforgivable in my eyes. How many other legends have left the club in such acrimonious circumstances in the modern era, slagging off their own teammates in such a vicious way on a public forum? Pogba has easily been United's best outfield player since he signed for United, in an overall and largely dysfunctional team under a misfit of a manager.

Has he had stinkers? Yes. Could he and should he be doing more? We know he's certainly capable of it yes, but consider this, he's had a hand in 35% of the goals we've scored this season in the CL and PL combined. His productivity is up there with the best midfielders in the league, and this is why his peers have voted him in the PFA team of the year.

How well do you honestly think Keane would do in this United team struggling for fourth if he couldn't handle playing second fiddle to Chelsea? He was still surrounded by higher quality players than what we have right now. Where was his leadership and 'intelligence' then when we actually needed it the most? Great players take their teams out of the storm. Its been stormy weathers since Fergie left, Keane had it good.

I am a huge fan of Pogba, however if he wants to go Real Madrid I think we should sell him. He is a luxury, that in our present form we do not need to have. I would rather take the funds from the sale and bring in younger talent. The distraction and turmoil of having him as a player outweighs the benefits, I will miss him and expect that he will be a monster in Spain.

Not enough. The fans in England doesn't relate to these type of footballers that plays with the brain. Anyone not busting the gut for the whole game lacks 'effort' and 'doesn't care' . We must have 11 workhorses at all times.

Those sprint statistics are damning and just confirm why I've run out of excuses for Pogba.

He has a seriously detrimental effect on the team's overall play.

As Keane said, "He plays for himself."

Hope we can get a proper fee this summer.

How would someone objectively decide then. Perhaps a vote of the players had played against him every week. They clearly saw something you didn't.

The players dont read the media shit every week. They dong get caught up in the circus. They just call ut as they see it.

I think he should be the best CM in the league with his talent. He was voted in the top 3. Luckily in my view. But we finished 6th. The rest of the team was from the top 2. Were not that good.

Not being number 1 does not mean he should be sold. That's what every second idiot on here seems to be suggesting though

You can claim Pobga is totally deserving of it and he's been really good all season - I'd disagree but that's what opinions and debate are all about.

But when you start suggesting a players association of 100's just 'call it like they see it' or they don't read the media (yeah right), then that's just nonsense. What about Graeme Souness - does he just 'call it like he sees it?' and as a top ex-player, his opinion trumps ours. Paul Ince? Roy Keane? I could Google 'Paul Pogna PFA' and find loads of views from pros and 'experts' agreeing with me etc...look, I can only express what I feel and it's that Pobga has been a massive disappointment. By all means, you can obviously disagree with me but the whole 'players who played against him' argument isn't a good one.IMO.

Everyone usually loves Pogba. However Pogba has seemed unsettled for a while, it seemed as Mourinho was the problem and then Ole came in and gave him the platform to perform and a nice warm environment again and he was the star. Now he is back to performing shit again, even with the backing from the manager, playing in his favoured position, without Sanchez taking up the same positions etc. It does seem like a little bit weakness in the team affects Pogba hard and he doesn't fight back for us like a leader is supposed to and instead his level drops. I think most fans that "want him sold" aren't idiots, they are simply realistic about the possibility of Pogba having had his mind set on leaving us for a while now, and worry that, that may be what influences his poor performances for us. It is a whole lot of assuming, but it is not completely unfounded, and I think people are just pissed off from all the wasted potential if that is the case. You would feel a bit hurt, if it was true, and so if you do believe that to be true you would not care for him that much and realise selling him is the best option for the club. If Pogba isn't playing as good as he can do, because he wants to leave, then he'll never play to his full potential here, until he gets the move anyways and those performances we've had enough of really.

100% certain that 96% of you don’t watch the games of undedstand. I detest pogba and all his antics but he is by and absolute mile out bets mifielder. When he is not attacking we have no one to get the ball to him

When he goes deep to get the ball everyone says he should be in the box.

Pogba is our best player by miles. If he leaves u will see
