The article is quite different to the headline and the journalist's input.

Lukaku, asked whether he would stay at the club, said: “I don’t know, I am not here to entertain rumours. I am still under contract.”.

It's based on assumption that players do favour playing in the CL than not and him not being favoured by Ole.
Sounds more reasonable.
There's no way a guy like Lukaku can bin us off!

I've been pushing this for a while and this is a signing I think we or Liverpool should make. He's played a very key role for them this reason with all of their absences and has shown versatility. Would be really cheap as well and as experience of the PL.

There's no way in hell that City will ever sell him to either us or the scouse.

Liverpool sold the POTY to City.

With the money in the PL, people like Levy and others will soon enough get off their high horses on this matter. We’d all love to sell abroad but unless you want ‘loan+option to buy’ deals, you either pray for a Chinese bail out or sell domestically.

Some reports that United would pay 120 millions for Oblak. What a bizarre policy if true. De Gea is in bad form but in general both are the same level of keeper. So you lose a keeper already integrated to the club and expend a lot of time in a crucial window to address a position that should bot be the priority. Its the same thing with Pogba.

Buy a world class front three and forget the rest.

De Gea is asking for stupid wages and his contract will expire in 2020 so its a good time to sell him rather than lose him for free...Oblak is the best keeper we could get so it makes sense.

He has only one year left in his contract and he is currently stalling, maybe they will let him leave for a fee rather than risk losing him for free.

They would let him go for free before selling him to Liverpool or United.

A really talented player that is too injured to rely on. But I guess he'd be good company for Jones, Bailly and Rojo.

I love DDG and Pogba. They are our best players. But if DDG is asking for 350,400k or whatever and if Pogba wants to leave /wants the same 350/400 k, then I think we should let them go. We have destroyed our edge structure by signing Sanchez, if we give 350,400k to our star players, those WC front three you want us to sign will all ask for 400k,and then 400k becomes the base salary for our top players. Then our meh players will start asking for 250k,bench players will start asking for 100k, it's like a domino effect. That's simply not sustainable

David De Gea doesn’t want to sign a new deal.

Oblak would probably ask for terms around 200K per week while DDG around 350K per week? Will it be actually be cheaper long term if we get Oblak for 120m and sell DDG for 60m-ish? Someone do the calculations please

If he’s worried about the strength of the Atlético squad next season, then the potential strength of our squad ain’t looking any better.
Well apparently Costa is on his way out, Griezmann is flirting with Barca again, Rodri supposedly wants to leave, Lucas Hernandez is gone, their defense is ageing, so I can see why he's concerned

I don't see how Oblak or any top player will risk his career joining us just for money at this moment. Can't he find money + trophies elsewhere ?

It's not just about which option is cheaper, it's about the wage structure. You can't give everyone 400k per week contracts, soon everyone we sign will start asking for 350k

That's fair enough. I'll take it as Oblak being the 'cheaper option' then. Besides a goalkeeper should never be on 350-400K wages. That is entirely wrong for me

Don't think any other team will be willing to meet his release clause, only we can do dumb shite like that. I think he'll only come if we give him reassurances about our future and our rebuild plan, only if he's convinced that we really want to take this club back to the top.
If we can convince him, maybe we can make some sort of deal with DDG going the other way and Oblak coming here, for DDG + 60 Mill or something. Infact that's the only way I can see this transfer happening, don't think we will pay them 120 million because that's an absurd amount of money for any player, let alone a GK

If I were him I'll stay at Ateltico for now tbh.

He has barely been injured for the past two years. He had one very bad injury in his first season at City but since then he has a few niggles here and there but nothing like the problems faced by Bailly, Jones etc.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

It'd take about eight years to break even.

Though, it might also help the club in not giving away (any more) stupid wage packets. So there's the added intangible benefit there

If Dave decides to leave, oblak would be the perfect replacement.

Not worth 120m to be spent on Oblak. And he is not great with his feet either.

I would be very worried if we continue to sign players based on the reputation rather than how they could fit our style of play.

Still stand with Cilessen option.

Oblak is great but Romero is a very good keeper and Henderson has done brilliantly on loan. If we sell De Gea I would be happy with those two competing for the #1 shirt and invest the money in all other areas.

He's one of the best goalkeepers in the world. I read a stat before the Barcelona game which they lost 2-0 that he hasn't conceded a goal outside the box all season long. His save percentage rate is excellent and he's better at distribution then what I have seen from De Gea.

Absolutely, and the club would take that stance too. We don’t have unlimited funds and there are more crucial areas of the squad to invest in.

Bloody Henderson is a super super talent... Already arguably the best in the Championship, give him the opportunity to fight for that No.1 spot with Pereira and Romeo.

Just think £120m or whatever should be spent elsewhere

Oblak is arguably the best in the world, mental that anyone wouldn't want him. Dare I say he'd be an upgrade over De Gea even if DDG was at his best

He also has an exceptional defence in front of him. Atletico can score one goal and see a game out. I wouldn't trust our lot with two goals.

Spending 120 mil on Oblak means we won't be able to spend that much on all those areas that we desperately need to reinforce, which is almost the whole starting XI.
