This tie is over. Liverpool have a tough game away to Newcastle Saturday night while Barca have 6 days rest. Barca will score at least once in Anfield, can see them winning the 2nd leg never mind the tie. Basically Liverpool need city to slip up or it's another trophyless season.
It's football so you can never really say it's over. Last year when Barca smashed Roma 4-1 everyone was saying the same thing and they got knocked out. If Liverpool get an early goal at Anfield Barca may shit their trousers but what I'm hoping will happen is Liverpool throwing everything at them and Messi scores one on the counter. Then the scouse pricks will have to score 5.

I'd definitely not say this tie is over yet. Liverpool will be up for it at Anfield and if they get an early goal, anything is possible as we've seen from all the comebacks this season. I also don't get this confidence of Barca scoring at Anfield? They've scored something like 2 away Knockout goals in the CL in the last 2-3 years and Anfield is probably the toughest place they'll be visiting in that period. The one good thing for them is that Liverpool will be on the attack so they'll have chances on the counter so you'd hope Suarez/Dembele aren't as wasteful as today.

Yeah if Pool score early, they'll get a huge boost.

Hopefully that Roma debacle last season has them more geared up for the Anfield game.

That is always on their mind and a player like Vidal helps to prevent those type of things. Barca's clean sheets paper over the cracks of their average defense so yeah, this tie definitely isn't over. They concede a lot of chances vs every team they play.

Suarez celebrating and trying to get players sent off every 5 minutes shows what a classy act he is :lol::lol:

The fact he celebrated made it all the more amusing.

Yeah they do.

People think they're just going through the motions and then they go up a gear, but this is how they play now.

They don't dominate/monopolize the ball and starve you of chances like they did under Pep.

They go blows to blows usually and hope Messi can deliver the final KO.

If Barcelona play at Anfield like they did against us at OT, then I can see Liverpool getting 3/4 goals. Let's hope not though.

3-0 flattered Barcelona in this game. We played a great match and did so many things right. When was Barcelona last time put under that sort of pressure at Camp Nou?

But you can't argue with the brilliance of Messi and Suarez, and when we can't take our chances we can't complain too much about the result. We needed more sharpness up front.

It aint completely over, but we have to be at our very best at Anfield to have a chance now. Around 95-5 in Barcas favour.

Alba is world class and Suarez is still world class. Suarez is one of the best players if it’s a big match. Pique has been great this season too.
Forgot about Alba, he is really good too. Suarez has his moments (good and bad) but he is past his best. Is he really still world class?

It will be interesting to see if they can build a post Messi team with players like Arthur, Frenkie de Jong and Dembele.

Valverde is an excellent reactive tactician. He's great at analysing a game vs. an opponent and then the next time creating an approach that deals with it better. Betis game 1 and 2, as well as Madrid game 1 and 2, are examples of that. I know people are expecting much of the same, if not worse, at Anfield, but some are going to be surprised how Valverde improves Barca's build-up vs Liverpool's press.

Can we talk about Pique, though. I feel as though he's not getting the plaudits he deserves in light of all the plaudits VVD is getting at the moment. For most of the season, non-EPL fans have waxed lyrical about how Pique has been performing as VVD's equal, if not even better. Going into the game the narrative was Messi vs. VVD. Not quite so cut and dry. Pique was an absolute monster tonight.

A lot of times under Valverde. Defeats to Betis, world class performances by Ter Stegen. And then they have Messi.

It's actually more common than you'd imagine. Most teams, like you guys, just don't take your chances.

I know we're all gutted about the Dembele miss but we should be glad Salah missed an even easier one. 3/4-1 would be afar worse scoreline than 3-0.

This miss though....can't believe it. 120mil player. He had all the time in the world. And he shoots with his left.
Messi should finish that. Barca overusing that pass in penalty box
Nah, he did the right thing.

Anyone with half a brain should've buried that.

How exactly does 3-0 flatter Barca when they should have won by at least 4?

All I keep reading is the score line flattered Barca, why? Because Liverpool had a plucky attitude?

I still think they go through then win the whole thing. Barca were shaky at times and if Liverpool score early they could crumble, obviously I don't want that to happen but they were really dodgy against us first half at OT we just couldn't take our chances, I don't watch much of the other leagues but I was surprised they were like that when we played them. Sure we will see "another magical European night at Anfield." They had to run a lot if they were playing anyone other than Newcastle at the weekend they could struggle.

Messi is something else, he is unselfish when they broke a couple of times he could have had a hat trick but played through better placed team mates, also his reaction for their second goal to run forward and put himself in the position to be ready to capitalise if the ball did rebound. Unfortunately added to show how unintelligent and un reactive our players are. Obviously we dont expect them to be Messi but it was still painful to see the difference. He makes it look easy the ball is almost glued to his feet

Obviously we know he isn't moving but in the current market how much would you say he is worth? Say City wanted him how much would they price him at?

Lots of people need to apologize to Barca in this thread. Overrating of EPL teams is insane

Liverpool are fecked. They didn't even catch Barcelona on a good night and still Liverpool could have conceded six. No away goals. None. Zilch. Nada. Anfield or not, Liverpool will have to go gung ho and they'll be as open as a 24/7 Asda.

As if Barca are not scoring a single away goal.

Addendum: why is Alisson's face so puffy and red all the time?

Pique was the best player out there tonight.

Despite their play, Liverpool a bit lucky not to be 6-2 down after that.

You've not been following their away CL knockout ties in recent years, yes?

Valverde's change to bring Semedo on a right-back and move Sergi Roberto into midfield was absolutely brilliant. It changed the game for Barca in terms of controlling the game better.

I have, and point taken about their history, although, history isn't always an accurate predictor of future events, only the teller of past ones. Simply because something has occurred, doesn't mean it's going to occur once more.

No away goals conceded and playing against a very offensive Liverpool in the second leg. There will be lots of space for them to exploit and the difference this year is Messi's form.

I hope you're right but despite Messi's brilliance, Barcelona, even this year, managed to get just one goal from two ties away to Lyon and United.
I just don't see it set in stone that they'll score so I hope they're good enough in defense not to concede 3.
