really sad about this, he has been my favorite player over the past 5 years, personally think he should of been made club captain few years back. he's one of the few players who always gives it his all who i've never watched and gone he doesn't care.

At 30 though(as he will be by the start of next season) we can't afford to hand out a long term contract. So while its sad he is leaving, I can see why its happening.

Glad to see him go.

Had way too many weaknesses to his game that was hidden by his effort for running after everyone when he or someone else would lose the ball.

A new era.

I'll miss his passion - he clearly loved the club but a) probably got fed up with the poor signing and b) coming to the end of his career, he could hardly turn down the pay rise he gets by being at PSG

Think this is harsh and I see him more as a 7/10 player who at least puts in the effort and seems to care about the result, but the point still stands.

And that tweet sums up his shortsightedness. A team that is in a rebuilding phase can't afford to let 6/10 players go for free because these players don't actually grow on trees. The money invested in replacing him will not be invested in the 8/10 players who will most likely not be interested in joining a team that doesn't have 6/10 players to support him and make his job easier.

If he just played for money then it shows what a proper professional he is. Gave 100% every single minute on that pitch. So what are some of our current players playing for?

Thank you and good luck. Sad to see him leave.

200k is too much. No one is arguing against that. What people are arguing against is that they sort out contracts for trash players and let him go on a free.

It's rumoured to be 200k.....because PSG don't have to pay 30-35 million transfer fee.

We royalled fecked this contract up. And as others have highlighted, we wasn't a priority to move on. The players we gave new contracts to ARE priorities to move on.
Never said that i dont understand that view of things, when it comes to giving Young/Jones etc new contracts for X amount and when it was AH turn they said "Woah woah, hold on a minute, thats a lot, not worth it, we cant offer that"

Problem is Daniel that we have a lot of 4 or 5/10 players still here. So 6/10 is good for us.
Exactly

He might not be as gifted as Pogba but at least Herrera cares and gives 100% every time he steps on the pitch. Can't ever question Herrera's attitude or commitment

Its harsh, but i never thought he was good enugh. If we want to imrpove the last thing we want is giving Ander a 200k week contract.

To be honest i hope more to follow.

I am still fuming that Lindelof was trying to rally the troops last weekend, while our so called captain just stood there doing nothing.

I presume Pogba and DDG are world class, but at the moment that is even open to debate. World class to me is consistent performances. Not a super show now and again. World class gets thrown around too easily.

Agreed. Pogba thinks he's world class but hes miles away.

DDG was but hes fallen away this year.
He can make it back but I'm not sure Pogba will ever be as good as he thinks he is.

Yeah, it's a bit much. He's leaving the club for nothing in his prime and he's not exactly a legend.

Valencia is not even remotely as popular as Herrera, but he deserves at least twice the fanfare that Ander has received.

Just occurred to me that Herrera + McTominay + Pogba could have been a pretty effective midfield next season. Herrera and McTominay doing the dirty work giving his royal highness the freedom he needs

Oh well

To an extent yes, but I also think it reflects badly on the maturity level of the players if they’re constantly comparing their wages to Sanchez.

They should be able to recognise that as a freak situation where he seems ridiculously overpaid in hindsight, but only because he’s declined more suddenly and to a greater degree than Fernando Torres (I know his last season at Arsenal wasn’t great but didn’t appear indicative of long-term decline at the time).

We offered star player money at the time and can’t just lower them now that he’s turned out to be such a flop.

If there’s only one year left on his contract (unsure on this) and Alexis doesn’t wish to move due to his wages, it wouldn’t surprise me if we pay off the circa £26M left on his contract simply to re-establish a fairer wage structure in the long-term (which will be worth much more in the long run in both financial and squad morale terms. Plus assist with contract negotiations for incoming transfers, especially when it comes to the biggest names.
I agree with you to some extent.

The problem is, in any work environment, if one employee is paid way out of sync to the rest it becomes a cause of all kinds of claims and complaints.

As to the maturity of modern players, forget it - children in the Kindergarten.

I agree with this, he is a player we should be keeping

Best thing match going fans can do tomorrow is sing his name over and over and also give Woodward loads of grief.

We need glazer and Woodward out chants tomorrow. They need to know this isn't acceptable. They are ruining the club.

Utd fan and football journalist of some depth. Usually balanced with his opinions too so surprises me he's slating Herrera. Think it's because the ethics of PSG reflect poorly on Andrea's choice.
United fan who loves writing about how amazing City are. When Jose was getting results was writing tripe about the style of football. A wolf in sheep's clothing if ever there was one.

In the grand scheme of things, it really doesnt matter if he stayed or not, we wont be winning anything with or without him, so good luck to him.

Agreed. Woody and the Glazer's are the ones responsible for all the crap.

Even in SAF's days I worried that there were native average players kept around for years, perhaps because the staff enjoyed the craic with them at training & elsewhere. This is why I'm wary of the push for British signings, the potential phasing-out of foreign players, and renewals for club veterans who are 'part of the furniture'. It's long been too cosy and complacent at United.

I'm pretty gutted, I still had a little hope in the last few weeks that he would sign a new contract.

Personally I'm not fussed at all that he's leaving. Never was nearly good enough.
Eh? He's easily good enough. You don't have to be stellar names to be a good team. Liverpool don't really have a single big name midfielder and look at them go.

I can name 15 current Utd players I'd sooner leave than Ander Herrera.

It's an absolute joke from the club to keep dross like Young n Jones but let Ander go.

Wow. Delusion. One of the few players that actually shows tenacity, movement, bite, and effort. Keeps our midfield ticking and it's clear we perform so much better with him. Matic is the one that needed to be let go. Is Ander the best midfielder in the world? No. Is he one of the most important players to us? Yes.
Meanwhile, we extend Young and Jones.

It's absolutely bizzare that the club is making him seem look like a legend whereas Valencia is seemingly getting shunted out with nothing.

Valencia has been a better player and servant for United than Herrera.

Indeed. The guy's just gone off radar since the PSG opportunity.

Expected but still very disappointed with this confirmed news. Very underrated player, would have been a ideal player on Ferguson's team, a true team player that got through some amount of donkey work. He delivered a rare thing on the current panel (leadership) and got the best out of the more flashy players around him. Letting a player like that go for free shows how poorly run the club is now and giving the chilean piano player ridiculous high wages was always going to cause issues like this down the line.

Herrera is more popular currently. They also wanted Herrera to stay, while Valencia has been barely seen this season. At the end, it is just PR to calm down the fans and give them a goodbye from a player most wanted to stay, while clearly knowing most fans will blame Ed and the club.
