Isn't the rumors that he won't be seen as a key figure a bit bollocks? IMO he's dead cert to be one of the starting CB's next season, despite his young age..

Think they can do with both. Just need to find some idiots to get Bale off their books (for example us)
They are probably bollocks, yes. But I mention it because it is something. As mentioned I don't think we will get him, but it's not unreasonable to say there is a chance however slim, and we will certainly not get him if the club is run with the defeatist attitude that a lot of our fans have. (not a comment on you)

Real would be insanely well off for the future if they got De Ligt, I'm only speculating as for reasons that they don't seem to be linked to him. :)

Barca or City. I just can't see any reason why he would come here. Yes, except money. But it is not like we are offering him 300k and others 100k.

Wouldnt trust Spanish sources. As long as there isnt someone reliable from the Netherlands or England reporting it, i wont get excited. At the moment, it looks to me like his camp want Barca to pay more.

People thinking we actually have a chance on signing him will be really disappointed.

I don't know how much Barca is offering him but rumor has it that we've offered him around 230k/ week.

Barcelona, I feel, can't afford him unless someone takes Coutinho or/ and Dembele off them at ridiculous prices.

If you're a Mascherano type that will take a pay cut and beg to sign for Barcelona then you don't have any interest in the services of Raiola.

I think De Ligt's association with Mino indicates that he's a person that knows his worth.

I know it's a very little thing to some people - but I don't see why de ligt would move to City to play at RCB next to Laporte at LCB..

It isn't a huge deal but it isn't the best either. At Barca or United he would be placed at LCB with a freedom to grow in to his best position. Hopefully we can outdo Barcelona on the wage side.

The sanchez deal may not be the worse thing to have happened if it opened up our wage bracket for players like this.

We sign De Ligt, i can see Sancho putting in serious thoughts and coming here as well. Long way to go though
Was thinking this, but then surely he'd want parity with De Ligt's wages? Then Rashford will when he asks for a new contract etc

I somehow doubt that he’d go to United as things are, but I’d actually prefer for you to get him over City. Them replacing Kompany with him would just be too..

Ideally, though, he comes to Liverpool to form the strongest defensive line in the world and if not that, then he goes to Spain or Italy.

All aboard.

Why? The only similarity between them is age. Neither are close to him at the moment in terms of status.

I think Real not being mentioned has a bit to do with them earlier feeling certain that he'll go to Barca, and didn't want to appear as if they lost to them on a transfer. Other than that there is the fact that Real need heavy investments in other parts of their squad as well. They can go for another year of Ramos & Varane, and they signed Militao. They can't go another year without a new top attacker after their terrible season or a midfielder. They might need a left-back as well, I'm not entirely sure how they are performing or if they have signed someone.

Does this sound completely off, @carvajal?
Yes, As you said the fact that he is related to Barcelona may have reduced hopes, besides Varane continues, and Nacho has renewed.
I would have sold Varane.

I think Real being out of it has a lot to do with FFP. Zidane wants a number of new signings in midfield and attack and there is already talk that they need to get Bale off the books before completing those signings and that is before any potential de-Ligt deal. It is one of the reasons they may be motivated to sell low and pay a chunk of his wages just to give themselves the room to make signings. On a related note it is a good reason why we should show no interest in Rakitic until de-Ligt has made his move. I would hate to think us handing over a fee for a short term fix that Barca don't want would be the catalyst for them completing the de-Ligt deal.

Sancho is definitely close to him status wise? Maybe we would have to pay him De Ligt wages anyway. Rashford is the more debatable one of course.

In general, sure. In this case it’s simply the biggest Dutch talent of the last decade pairing up with the most succesful Dutch agent though. And the appeal for De Ligt presumably was much more in the fact tha Raiola has so much influence and always gets his clients to the big clubs rather than the fact that he will guarantee to get you the best salary.

I’m actually fairly convinced De Ligt is the type of guy who would take a pay cut to get the move to his dream club. Like Evra pointed out in the Neville interview though, Raiola would almost never let something like that happen, with him it’s about getting the best financial deal 99% of the time.

And there’s the question, what is his dream club? He clearly likes Barca a lot, but from interviews it has also become clear he doesn’t care much about La Liga in general. I remember one Q&A video from a while ago where he admitted he doesn’t even follow or watch La Liga, while he’s a massive fan of the PL and definitely dreamt of playing there as a kid. Funnily enough it seemed the exact other way around with Frenkie de Jong, who was always waxing lyrical about Spanish football and didn’t seem to care as much about the PL.

If we get De Ligt, we should sell Darmian, Rojo, Bailly, Jones (and promote Tuanzebe).

Dude.... You just can't compare Beckham and Pogba. Beckham didn't want to be sold to Real Madrid. He fell out with Fergie which led to that. Pogba moved to Juve willingly and is trying to orchestrate a move once again. We were always a stepping stone for him. If Beckham had fixed things with Fergie back then, he would have also been one the greats with 500+ games
Don't think so. Maybe things went sour and he wants out now but "always a stepping stone" seems a stretch.

What I mean is Sancho hasn't done anything near captaining a team to the CL semis. Great talent still.

As we speak Ed is operating a gondola up and down the canals of Amsterdam passing De Ligt's Aunt's house winking at her in the hope he might take pity and sign for us.

To be honest he should be our main target, he is a leader, is brave and could be the mainstay of our defence for years and a big statement of our rebuilding job. Give him sanchez money, get Ziyech in , get rid of the deadwood.

Jones young darmian rojo mata matic sanchez why are they still here? Ship them out

Hard to get excited about a player I’ve barely watched. But caf always does a good hype job.

He's the next Duncan Edwards and since Phil Jones was the next Duncan Edwards that would make him the next Phil Jones. :smirk:

This is quite interesting, why do you feel LCB is his best position? I personally don’t see it, over the last year he obviously played as RCB next to Blind and Van Dijk for club and country.

In general I think he’s the type who is perfectly suited for both positions, but if I had to pick one I would say RCB is his best position...

I just can’t see it happening unless Barcelona are offering really low wages.
Does Juve have the money to swoop in?

What do you guys think we’d offer him vs Barca in terms of wages? 170k vs 100k?
And maybe a bigger sign on fee and more money to Raiola.
