It's not being satisfied at negative news. I'd love us to sign de Ligt. It's laughing at people blindly believing anonymous reddit posters when they shout from the rooftops about how unreliable journalists are. They'd rather believe an unknown nobody on the Internet than journalists. It's ridiculous.
So the people that believe the reddit posters, they hurt you in some way? Or do you feel some intellectual superiority for believing journalists rather than nobodies? If it’s the former, I’m sorry for your pain. If it’s the latter, good on you mate.

I would rather take his word for it that he's got multiple offers he's considering in more than two leagues. United is the biggest gamble for him if our offer is there. He won't necessarily go to the highest monetarily, Bayern could've put a decent offer along with other PL clubs.

Also, is anyone truly believing those Reddit posters anyway? It seems like most here are just having a laugh with the situation.

The whole "the meltdown will be hilarious" is some weird pedestal to be on. It's just a bit of fun.

Yup this is what I think as well. As far as I know it’s a bit of fun, but hey if someone gets off on feeling superior about this, who am I to tell them otherwise?

God, I love reading those old threads. You guys are like the godfather of the forum. Alot of very sensible posts. I was only 8 years old back then haha.

Is there a way to search for threads created pre 2003?
The earliest pre-2002 threads are mostly gone with a few exceptions in the Classic Thread forum.

Really? Do you have any information?
I don't have any information that's not being reported in the public. This is what I infer from how the events and reports transpired. There was never any report from the English and Dutch press about United being close, the only reports came from Barcelona, which suggests that's what they've been told to put pressure on them.

As if De Ligt would choose United. Ah well never mind, we still have the chuckle brothers and Young
Why wouldn't he choose United? If he was to be told he'd be the face of a major rebuild, with massive investment, then coupled with the huge wages, i think he'd probably enjoy the challenge.

Let's hope he has not yet watched any United game this season, then we might have a chance!

Not sure i understand the logic in that?

Barcelona told their close journos to put a story out saying de Ligt is close to signing for United because they've offered a bigger wage in an effort to put pressure on themselves? Or are you saying that Raiola has put the story to them? If that was the case, he'd have put the story to the UK press too in order to put HUGE pressure on Barca to up their offer.

Update from the reddit “itk” u/drewing12

Somewhat of a big update for all of you. A lot happened while I was asleep last night.

So I’m actually going to tell you guys a little more about my source so you know where my info is coming from. And understand my credibility. My source is someone at the club who is involved with media/content. The mods know who it is exactly but that’s all I can say publicly and there are enough people at the club who do that it likely won’t bite me in the ass for saying so. This person obviously would know about any transfer signings as their job is to actually create the announcements, so obviously my source probably won’t know super far in advance. But once it’s a done deal, or close to one. They will also be ITK.

As of yesterday afternoon my time, word from my source was that De Ligt was virtually a done deal. Marketing, content creation, and media teams were all creating and prepping announcement and branding material for De Ligt. They were working hard to show off our new signing. I went to bed hoping to wake up to an badass announcement.

Well that obviously didn’t happen, and we ended up getting worse news.

After contacting my client who is there for the game today, and asking what’s going on with De Ligt ~5 minutes ago. It seems like my alternate sources initial reports yesterday that Barca’s renewed efforts did in fact change the situation greatly was true and they are pulling out all the stops to sign him. I wasn’t given much of the details, but the mindset at the club went from “De Ligt is a done deal,” to “he may not happen at all” in just a couple of hours. Also I’ve been told City entered the fray early this morning and gave De Ligt pause, they have money, stability, are in the PL, as well as CL. So it seems De Ligt has a lot more happening now and wants to wait until after his international games to make a full decision.

I’m as bummed as you guys are, I obviously don’t want to fail the tier challenge, but I’ve just been relaying information as I receive it, and will continue to do so moving forward unless you all would like me to shut up. In which case I will. I feel bad for hyping you guys up, but I was just as hyped. I think we still have a chance, but it looks like we were a signature away and it isn’t as close anymore. I still think he will be in United kit come end of day, and my source believes the same. But I don’t think it’s as much of a sure thing anymore.

I have a client tied for 2nd going into the final round in a golf tournament today that I’m heading out for here in a bit. So I’ll will be fairly busy with that, but will post any updates I get and try to be around when I can.

Thanks guys, hopefully this all turns around for the better :)

Edit: another update from source. Don’t give up yet, my client just straight up asked someone at the game at half time if we’d get De Ligt. Someone who would definitely know. And they just smiled. So, don’t call it it dead yet boys.

Its a sign. He gave the interview in English confirming that he's moving to PL.

I'm saying Barcelona were told United made a huger offer for him in the 250k+/week range and if you don't soon match it, he's going there. The reporters who are close to Barcelona got wind of the news and put it on twitter.

I'm guessing an agent of one of the other defenders United have been negotiating with got wind of the news and asked Ed what's going on with his client if De Ligt is being pursued. At that point Ed probably had to put his bit out in the English press.

There could be truth in this. There could have been a serious betting movement in last 48 hours towards United and Sky Bet needs to swing some betting elsewhere.
Odds have lengthened (gotten worse) substantially for De Ligt to join United within the past few hours. He's back to being heavily favoured for Barca.

Such a shame, I had hope and it's been crushed.

Well, I've done my part for the muppet-verse. I've asked the Ajax Reddit to pass along the best Dutch sources for transfers regarding Ajax. When I receive a response, I'll let you all know so we can put this thread into hyper-drive.

If true, the odds are just hinging on random tweets from the likes of Romero and Sky, neither of which seem like reliable indicators at this point.

But from what i've read today, Ed hasn't spoken to the press.

Theres been no briefing, and Stone has given his opinion on the matter and clearly said that he doesn't know whats happening as United haven't said anything. Sky Sports are using Ballague as their source it seems, as he apparently said the same thing yesterday. The others have just jumped on the bandwagon and said the same, but theres nothing from United at the moment.

Does seem like a Raiola thing to do though in all fairness, but until the press is briefed, then we'll not know until he's either in a United or Barca shirt.

Of course they have, Sky Sports will have a huge say in that with their "No interest according to our sources" piece before. They have about as much of an idea of whats going on as we do

The sky article doesn't mention Ballague anywhere in it.

Just says United believe he is going to Barcelona.

No it doesn't, but it's not a co-incidence that Ballague said the same yesterday is it?
Plus think about it this way, if Ed had spoken, why have no other journo's or somewhere like BBC not reported it?
As i said, Simon Stones tweeted what he THINKS is happening but clearly stated that United are staying quiet and have not said anything. If there had been a brief, it'd be everywhere by now with concrete information

Well, just now Mark Ogden is saying the same. May be some of the others are still recovering from a weekend bender. Who knows?

Barcelona, who else
Why would Romero, a Catalan based journalist, receive that information? I’m pretty sure if Riola was trying to apply pressure on Barcelona he’d just tell Bartomeu to cough up. Very least he’d use his trusted mouthpieces not a Catalan radio station.

They're taking the same line that Sky Sports did - United believe he's going to Barca, but reading the Sky Sports article it clearly says that "Sky Sources Understand".

If it was a brief, it'd be everywhere now and BBC would have had a story on it. Lets be honest, Sky Sports are about as reliable as Indykaila now (ok maybe not that bad, but you get my point). They're not as reliable as they used to be. As soon as BBC report we have no interest, or someone like Di Marzio, then i'll believe it. Until then, anything can happen.

Close this thread, this guy has been a Barca player for a while now.
I think Barca would be his preference but going by his own comments, it sounds to me like he's given Raiola a list of clubs he'd play for and would be happy enough to take the best deal at any of them. I reckon Barca, United, Juve and Bayern. In that order.

Going by our relationship with Fat Mario then I would put us at the bottom of that list unless we give Pogba a move or lot more money.
