No idea.
Geronimo Rulli is also better than the goalkeepers they have called up.
Bizarre really.

worst golden generation in their history. Its time to move on from all of them.
they're just managed badly and that's it. sometimes there's really no point in analyzing too much. it was Scaloni's first competitive game, there's no visible progress yet and Colombia is tough opponent. maybe we should just wait to see how they will play for rest of the tournament.
After having been poor for a good while prior and since then reverting to type. THAT group....You mean the generation that reached a WC final 24 years later, and lost it by a narrow 1-0, against a team that had thrashed Brazil 7-1 in their own country?
Appointing Scaloni is a weirder decision than us appointing Ole. The guy was assistant manager for a year at Sevilla, then assistant manager at Argentina under Sampaoli for a year. Managed one game at u20 level in between and got the job Thats his coaching experience, it is quite frankly laughable.
yeah, it's weird. they obviously want their manager to be from Argentina which is fine, but that means you're already limiting yourself to a very few realistic options and even less good ones, which makes their ride with Sampaoli even more tragic. he was such a good choice on paper yet they wasted him in such a tragic way. they won't find better manager until Simeone decides he's had enough of Madrid.

He's been in charge of all their friendlies aswell although I'd say Venezuela beating them comfortably 3-1 in March should've woken them up.
They simply don't have the wages on offer to appoint anyone major in europe, zero chance Pochettino or Simeone would walk out of their clubs jobs and manage Argentina any point in next 10 years.
They had the right idea getting in Sampaoli but they simply didn't have the squad to recreate his style which was great for Chile and just putting him in with less than a year to WC was wrong timing, should've got him in 2015 when he left Chile.
Just a very muddled FA making wrong decisions and it keeps on filtering down to the managers and players and so they all look confused on the pitch. It's very much like England for most of last 15 years.
Sometimes is laughable the excuses used regarding Messi. One reads a post here might think Fernando Santos would reject Lo Celso, Paredes, Tagliafico or Aguero, I mean they don’t have the best squad in their history but they aren’t Bolivia neither.
Having said that, regarding Scaloni...
Any 10 year old playing FM can plan a better tactic than that, surely?I've seen some tactical anarchy in my lifespan, but that's a whole new level.
Obviously taken out of context but good gods, that's 5 players who are absolutely useless while they're in possessionI've seen some tactical anarchy in my lifespan, but that's a whole new level.
It looks like something a Sunday League team would doObviously taken out of context but good gods, that's 5 players who are absolutely useless while they're in possession
Their midfield has been a joke for a decade now. Perhaps there lays the issue.
Hardly, who was wrongfully ignored?Only due to selection.
Hardly, who was wrongfully ignored?
Banega, Gago, Pizarro, Biglia, etc were never that good, only Cambiasso’s absence was due to selection from my memory.
Maacherano and Cambiasso were the best Argentinian central midfielders since Veron imo.
If Banega was all that good he would’ve ended up playing for Madrid, Barcelona or a top english club, instead of spending his peak years playing for second rate Spanish teams.Banega, Cambiasso etc were among the better midfielders in the leagues they were playing in. Its always political with Argentina
Banega won two Europa League trophies with Sevilla, in an era where the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool were also in that competition. He destroyed Liverpool’s midfield in a Europa League final, and schooled Man Uniteds midfield (with Pogba) in a UCL knockout game.If Banega was all that good he would’ve ended up playing for Madrid, Barcelona or a top english club, instead of spending his peak years playing for second rate Spanish teams.
He’s not very consistent though, which is basically what you want from a top midfielder and he isn’t one, although talented and very good at times.Banega won two Europa League trophies with Sevilla, in an era where the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool were also in that competition. He destroyed Liverpool’s midfield in a Europa League final, and schooled Man Uniteds midfield (with Pogba) in a UCL knockout game.
They should have taken him to the Copa America. He’s still the best midfielder Argentina have, even at the age of 30/31
I believe Mourinho was manager when Sevilla knocked United out last season.I also don’t think that Van Gaal’s United and early Klopp’s Liverpool were particularly good sides.

Gago really was a nothing player, I think you’re overrating these players quite a bit.
Completely forgot Banega was at Inter Milan.
He's a talented player but tends to play the game at his own pace. When Argentina can't be dominant like against France in WC he's a bit of a passenger.
Messi at barcelona = the team doesnt matter. he is the best there is. bla bla bla
Messi at NT = his team mates suck. It's all the team fault. bla bla bla.
Funny how things change.
Totally agree. Argentina dont have another tempo setter close to Ever, nor have they done since the days of Riquelme. I think thats without doubt. Besides him, Argentinas centre midfield has just been Mascherano and a whole bunch of nobodies. Simply not good enough. What ever happened to Pastore? Couldnt they have tried to shoe horn him in more the last 10 years? You don't have to be playing for a top 2 club in the league to be a good midfielder thats a lot better than Argentina's midfield from the previous match.
Are Kante, Eriksen, Alli, Torreira and Pogba not good midfielders because they arent playing for Liverpool and Man City?
Banega was one of the better CMs in la liga last season. But being one of the better CMs in la liga doesnt mean you can be part of a good midfield for Argentina? Nonsense.
He and Cambiasso were good players. Argentina has always had weird selections instead of depending on their best players - other than Messi. They pick him but they never seem to pick their best players around him for prolonged periods and build a proper team from it.
He was playing left midfield of a 3 for some reason that game and going head to head with Pogba who had pretty much the midfield perfomance of his life and won most of their duels. He didnt play well. Nor did it seem like a good idea to use him at left midfield after the previous match where he had a really good performance in the middle.
Regardless nobody is saying he hasnt had poor games before. Most players do. But Argentina haven't had a better midfielder than Banega since Riquelme retired. So he shouldnt have been in and out of the team, he should have been one of the mainstays as they looked to build a proper team out of the talented individuals they have.
They still look like a bunch of individuals rather than a team after all this time
It's either Messi or the coach blocking players getting into the team. Too much politics.Aguero and Scaloni don't get along. Scaloni called Agüero because of the Media Pressure. Actually he never called him before this cup.
Aguero is not going to be a starter the next game. This is the news nowadays.

Argentina were experimenting with youth before the Copa, why did they revert back to the old guard?
From the old guard you have only Aguero and Di Maria, both playing at good level in their clubs. And the information is that Scaloni does not want Aguero, the media is killing Scaloni these days because he called Aguero and won't make him play, they consider this a total lack of respect because it's a fact that he never wanted Kun in his team.
Otamendi came back aswell. Barely played for Man. City in the crunch run in.
