Ziyech, Neres, and Van De Beek will all be exposed as nothing special players when/if they leave Ajax and go to another club.
I'd be surprised if Van De Beek gets exposed, seems to read the game very, very well.

Neymar, I do not see his football life can last long given his life style and attitude on and off the field

Mbappe is talented but lacks the technical ability to become a GOAT level player.

Rakitic is not as good as people who don't watch La Liga think he is. Lacks agility and creativity.

Koke was a really good young player who basically stopped developing. Not good enough for Spain either.

Harry Winks.

Pundits were hyping him up after England’s defeat to Holland, as if he were the missing link, but I’ve no idea what he’s done to earn such a reputation.

He just seems a half-decent all round midfielder to me. I don’t see any standout attributes or exceptional talent there. The best comparison I can think of is Jermaine Jenas.

All good players, obviously, but not nearly on the level you'd expect them to be considering how people talk about them.

I was also going to say de Gea. He is a very good goalkeeper, but most United fans are absolutely sure that he was the best goalkeeper over the last couple of years. I don’t think one supporter of any other club would agree.
Yeah, he had only been in 5 teams of the season so far, average. Before this season most non-Spanish fans would say that he was best keeper in the world (after Neuer's decline).

I never rated Carrick all that much. Sure, he was a neat and tidy player, but, we're talking one of Europe's mega clubs at the peak of their powers and i always felt Utd could have got a player who did what he did but also have a bit more to their game. Just a bit meh for me.

Yeah. It's strange how 2-3 months of bad form can completely change people's opinions on someone who has been consistently world class for a number of years in a shite side. Baffling.
Hes been the best shot stopper in the world for years but his other abilities have never really been world class or particularly above average. Think about what ter stegen, allison, nueur and ederson can offer their teams. None of them have de geas reflexes but they all excel in quite other areas. I'm not saying any of them have been better than him specifically, but when your one real strength starts to decline your weaker aspects become more noticeable..

Its easy to forgive a keeper of poor distribution or a lack of command of his area if hes saving you with his reflexes. When he stops doing that its harder to ignore the flaws.

Not saying i want de gea to leave and its laughable that hes mentioned in this topic.

Dybala.

I can't see him having success outside of Italy and I think the fact he plays for such a dominant team made him look better than he is. He also seems to only be able to play in one position, which many teams don't even play with anymore.

Danny Rose - Maybe I've been unlucky but I have never seen him be actually good or contribute anything meaningful in a game.

Could never win a midfield unless he had Scholes besides him. Always annoyed me.

Mata had back to back great seasons at Chelsea, when he scored and created goals and deservedly voted our player of the season. Jose returned and ruined him over night, and he was never again even close to the player he had been the previous two seasons.

Joao Felix at €120m

Thomas Muller (weird one because he was probably world class for a long time, but I still just never rated him - albeit I realized i was wrong/in the minority)

I really think bergkamps status with the best ever 10s is overdone. His highlight reel puts him there but his average performance in the period I watched him puts him below the best I ever saw.
I understand your argument mate, I just think it's nonsense. The man was pure class and one of the best players the Premier League has seen.

He backed it up for Holland at World Cups as well. He was brilliant.

Pretty good player for his age but not in the same class of fullback as Kimmich, Robertson, or TAA. He was a lot of Kyle Walker in him, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Personally, my prototypical fullback is prime Dani Alves. Don't understand the hype for AWB, but I do wish him well regardless of where he ends up.
100%, I've said it many times - he is a good tackler but no way near complete enough for what we require. Take this with a pinch of salt but watch his youtube highlight reel from last season and compare with Ethan Laird's from our youth team. We have a far more complete 'modern' fullback prospect in our academy.

Okay they are playing at an entirely different level but AWB barely has a season of first team football and is seemingly now universally accepted as being top class. what would his value have been 12 months ago?

There's loads....Maguire, Joao Felix, Toni Kroos(Not in the past but presently he's finished as a footballer, can barely move across a pitch anymore) Nathan Ake, Rice and many more but can't even think of them now

He's had a season and a half of first team football. AWB is clearly a brilliant defender and owns his side of the pitch and he's athletic enough to have a presence in the final third. But he does struggle to attack (very similar to Shaw). As for Laird, he's excellent, i've raved about him for a few months now but it's still too early for him. I'd be happy to see him rotated as an attacking option on the bench. But it does make you wonder what our long term thinking is with Dalot if Laird does breakthrough.

And that's why Michael Carrick is one of the most under-appreciated players this country has seen. ;)
