There's been a Slakoth invasion over here the past few days. Don't know whether it is to make up for Community Day being a dud or whether it is just to do with the nest migrating. Got a 98% one yesterday and a shiny today so happy with that.
Not a huge fan of this. I know they messed up with Slakoth community day but couldn't they organise it after the 3 year anniversary which I think ends later today, I liked trying to get all the Alolan shinies but last 2 days been all Slakoths. I did managed an Alolan shiny Diglet today which is very apt because which just looks burnt kinda like me this is heat today.

This thread is 3 years old today. I'm surprised it's still going.

I was one of the early adopters in 2016 (downloaded an APK from some dodgy source before it was on the App Store). But I stopped playing after a couple of months.

I downloaded it on day one, but stopped playing for two years, just started again a couple of weeks ago. It's monotonous after a while.

Looks like Team Rocket will be invading the game soon. Not sure I'm what capacity yet...
From what I've gathered from various datamines (probably completely wrong)

Grunts will be taking control of certain pokestops which will be coloured differently to normal ones. You battle them and get a "shadow" pokemon if you win which will have low CP and they all have the same charge move. If you "purify" them by certain means, their CP increases drastically and they will learn the move Return

Anyone tackled the Mewtwo raids yet? I've only ever done one legendary raid with my son, but the two of us alone got nowhere.

Also, could everyone I've sent gifts to open them please, so I can send more? I don't care if you send anything back, but I need to send some as part of the research tasks.

Incidentally the gifts give me a bit of insight into whereabouts in the world people are, which is cool. Bit weird how many are church based though.

There is a church which is right beside where I live/in London there are loads of churches that seem to give gifts.

Are you limited to having 10 gifts at a time btw? I always seem to get capped at 10 and no more pop up at poke stops/gyms which is annoying as sometimes i can't get out and play so it would be nice if I could bulk store them.

I think at least four people are recommended for the strongest raids like that. Saw a video with three people but they had perfect counters etc.

Done, though I think you sent yours today. I tend to keep hold of the gifts until I have the gifts to send back in return so I can prioritise the more active first.

On my standard route these days there's:
  • College
  • Library
  • Adult education school
  • Church (gym)
  • Post office (gym)
  • Building society
  • Nightclub
  • Conservative club that I've never seen open and the icon for it is with the shutters down (gym)
  • Community centre
  • Spiritualist church
  • Fire station
  • Plaque
I see you and others with interesting museums and exhibitions while mine are pretty much all boring.

Yeah, 10 is the cap. Apparently it started off as 20, went down to 5 then up to 10. Think 20 would be better. I keep an eye on my tally and when it gets up to about 7 I send some off.

Most of the gifts I send are from work. There is a pokestop right in the building, which is really handy.

Shame I don't know anyone in real life who plays besides me and my son, as I wouldn't mind having a crack at these current raids.

That's where most of my gifts come from! When I can be bothered to go through the opening and sending mechanisms that is

Re raids its worth you having a look to see if your local community has a discord or Facebook groups as mine does and people organise groups to raid on there, the majority of people on mine are pretty friendly and you can interact with them as much or as little as you want, me and my boyfriend dont usually speak we just agree with them when they are starting the raid, some of the group have meet ups etc, you can get as involved or minimal involvement as you want. Obviously only if the people seem nice, some raids you can reach from a parked car, lessening the interaction

I personally find it quite annoying to do the legendary raids as it does kind of force you into supposedly unsafe practices eg meeting up with people you dont really know as you cant duo a legendary, you should just be able to keep going on your own and you would just need to heal more Pokemon.

Annoying, there is a pokestop that is beside the house that is accessible in the garden but it always feels weird to just walk into the garden just to do it.

Same here regarding the real life stuff. I always seem to get to a raid when there are a bunch of teens doing it and i feel weird sitting there by myself playing.

I've honestly only ever seen two other people playing a raid before, and it was at a time I couldn't join in.

I can tell by the activity at the nearest gyms that there are a fair few regular players around, but I've not spotted any of them.

Nah, that's not weird. At work, there's another stop just outside the opposite end of the building. You can be within reach if you go towards the staff toilets. I go there so frequently sometimes that the staff over there must think I have a bladder condition.

 Have you tried doing a bit of GPS drift so you don't need to leave the house? Personally I'd just go into the garden every five or so minutes and spin it as having a stop so close is the dream.

It is like that here too. The closest I've come to seeing some players is a car parked in front of the Conservative club gym for about five minutes with the people in the car looking at their phones for about five minutes before driving off.

Where are dittos supposed to pop? Need to catch one for a quest.
They spawn as other pokemon. You can see the disguise list here

Same here. I wish they would use the fact I've already caught 8 or 9 previously, just as they do for the 'reach level 25' tasks. I read one task later on is to catch an Aerodactyl, which will be even more tough.

Thanks for the advice. I don't use Facebook, but I'll have a look.

My current one is to catch five exeggcute, that'll take ages.

Speaking of ditto, just caught one without trying (whismur disguise). I've gone past all the ditto related quest steps though so don't need it. Seems to be the case that when it isn't a quest step, it is easier to find pokemon.

Last week exeggcutes were everywhere. Now I've got that task too and have seen one all week.

I live in a pretty small town area and even we have an active PoGo raiding community, so you'd have to live somewhere really quiet to not have one. Most communities use discord which you can normally find through a local PoGo Facebook page.

I don't have the time to raid much these days, but I did quite a bit when raiding was first released. I met some nice folk, but I always felt very awkward getting spotted by people I know. Having to admit I was catching pokemon to a client was a particular low point...

There was a lunchtime raid in the centre of Manchester, so I went and gave it a go. There were 6 of us and we were nowhere near defeating it.

The bit about you having to admit to a client you were catching Pokemon made me laugh!
It amused me seeing a couple of the people from work, who would be the last people you would expect to be playing it, turn up to raids!
