For us up to now in his career he has been a luxury player. We know the ability is there, it's just not consistent enough over 90 mins let alone game to game. Part of that is the set up, playing a non mobile holding midfielder in Matic next to him does neither any favours. When Herrera played he helped cover runners that Matic couldn't track but that meant we sacrificed creativity. Pogba himself also has to take a huge portion of theblame, his attitude absolutely stinks. He's the definition of the modern spoilt footballer. Maybe with us adding some more better pieces to the team, and if Real don't come in for him, we can finally tap into that undoubted ability and get consistent results

I'm curious, what does this actually mean? In practical terms?
It's usually just a dislike of Pogba himself perpetuated by the media.. if you ask for something concrete they'll say he doesn't run as much as a prime Kante or as fast as Bale.. even though he covers more ground than most of our players and has a languid but fast running style.

Or that he 'only turns up when he wants to', despite you know being one of the main creators of that the 3 month spell under Ole, when the rest of the team does nothing it's all down to Pogba..

I've noticed something actually amongst my South Asian friends. They all have this weird hate for Pogba's character, despite him being a fairly intelligent and grounded guy. No idea why.

Where the grass is greener.
So is anyone who thinks he does enough and deserves to be built around.
He's literally our best most important player, the creative hub of the team. Doesn't do enough though!

He shat the bed numerous times last season, like everyone else. Yet he's still the key to everything good about us.

He give up under 2 different managers last season. He give up on Jose whom he didn't like and he give up on Ole whom apparently he gets on with. He had a good spell when Ole first arrived, the whole team had a bounce, and then he retreated back to listless efforts. It's frustrating as we know he has ability and we know the team hasn't been great, but you still try your hardest and he didn't at the end. Too many excuses being put up for him, Jose was too negative, players around him aren't good enough. Inspire them then like you did for that initial Ole spell, great players make those around them better. He wasn't doing that at the end. The team hasn't been good enough, but you still put in the effort. The shite his agent comes out with as well, tell him to shut the feck up, he works for him. We are starting to put some better players into our lineup and hopefully there's still a couple more. If he stays, let's hope we get consistency. To often he makes one great pass and that hides a rather uneventful performance from him, let's see him influence games more than one sublime pass. He has the ability just seemingly not the attitude when things aren't going his way. We need players who inspire us, not just look good when the whole team is playing well.

Well this is the point, a season lasts for the best part of 10 months. Plus he proves he CAN play well with ‘shit, useless, crap’ players when he can be arsed. Was absolutely dreadful the end of the season and in that Bournemouth game when he watched a runner just go past him and couldn’t be bothered to chase, just shows what a liability he can be. Just excuse after excuse with him...he’s talented for sure and not the only one but he’s not produced anything close to enough in his time here.

The point is, people solely blame Pogba, whilst ignoring the other garbage that plays for our team. Is real Madrid after any of them for £150m? Did any of those win a world cup? People forget his goals, his assist to Rashford against Spurs, his many chances provided to our front 3 at the tail end of the season that Rashford etc fluffed, but remember the couple of goals conceded because Pogba tried to do much.

Here's a thought, focus on the other 10 garbage players he plays with, not the one who's actually shown quality throughout his career.

I personally want Pogba to leave so we can spend that £150m on 3 good players and people can end this odd obsession with Pogba, and realise finally how average the rest of our team is.

Last season he had good form, bad form, and exceptional form. Just like every other footballer on the planet, except the two aliens.

Expecting him to be exceptional throughout the whole campaign isn't realistic, and leads to disappointment. What's worse, blaming his poor form on "not being arsed" is even less realistic and leads to anger, resentment and maybe even hatred.

This is the cycle...people make ridiculous excuses about Pogba and when challenged it’s “focus on the other 10 garbage players he plays with”.

Apart from perhaps a couple of weirdos, nobody says Pogba is the sole problem, everyone things he’s very talented but IMO he has massive flaws in his game and he simply does not play up to his billing as a ‘superstar’. That he is probably our most talented player and when he wants to, he can play very well over a period of time, even with ‘the 10 garbage players’ is what annoys most people I reckon.

exactly, at various points last season guys like Smalling, Jones, Young, Sanchez, Martial,Matic, Rashford and even de Gea took a lot of stick, more so than Pogba at certain stages. To suggest that people solely blame Pogba is nonsense. What people do with Pogba that they don't do with the others is as you say they make excuses for him eg other players not good enough, Jose's tactics etc

That's understandable. The reason why there are a lot of excuses is that he's obviously a good player and shows it elsewhere so to a lot of people, there must be something else wrong besides him. And tbf, given our recent history it isn't too big a leap to blame elements at the club for good players' failure.

tactics, formations and teammates might not always be what you want, but the very minimum you must give is 100% effort, and he hasn't always given that for us. Guys like Young and Smalling get criticised as they aren't good enough, but you never question their attitude or will to win. Pogba is the opposite, the ability is there, the application isn't always. When he does turn it on, he's exceptional and therein lies peoples frustrations with him.

Why does he insist on dwelling on the ball to give people piggy back rides? It’s draining on the legs and all the time he wastes fecking around with that you’ve already lost all the runners up front.

No wonder our team has stopped making off the ball runs with him on the ball last season

There are tons of players that have consistent good seasons besides Messi and Ronaldo.

I meant consistently exceptional. Few players do that nowadays.
does Pogba do it for 90 mins though let alone game to game, that's my issue. I find he does something exceptional and people forget he was pretty anonymous for majority of the game.

What irks me about Pogba (other than the suspicion that he has always had an eye on moving on again at some point) is that the flaws in his game that hold him back seem like they should be the easier things to fix. His erratic work rate, concentration and decision making are actually more frustrating because he's so talented. You see him doing the difficult stuff but then falling short on basics that would make him a much better player.

Even with those flaws he's obviously still our best outfield player so if he stays for another season (with the right attitude) then that's a definite positive. I don't think he's ever going to stop frustrating though as at 26 you'd expect the flaws in his game to have dissipated more already. Add in the fact that a lot of fans will never warm to him at this point (due to leaving once and wanting to leave again) and he's going to continue to be a divisive figure for as long as he's here.

It depends on the game. If we're on the front foot the whole 90 minutes, expect him to be really good the whole time. He usually starts to fade if we can't get control of the game.

He’s a fecking brilliant player. Anyone who wants him sold should be extremely careful what they wish for. I can literally guarantee that he would be replaced with a worse footballer if he left.

Maybe his fading is part of the reason we can't get control of the game?
It's possible. Our team play, tactics, fitness etc were quite poor last season so keep in mind that there are many things that could influence that.

I remember his first season here, we played well, controlled quite a few games and he consistently created chances. I wonder what changed?

Yeah that never happened. Pogba was still giving through balls and getting players in positions they just kept messing up.

The problem with discussing Pogba is that it became like the "who came first egg or chicken" thing.

Some believe Pogba is hampered by bad teammates/system therefore he doesn't play to his full potential and doesn't have the motivation to do so.
Some believe Pogba, given his skill and reputation, is the center of the team and should lead by example, but instead, is too careless and complacent most of the time.

Personally, I don't think those two are mutually exclusive. In fact, I believe both are pretty much the truth.
Long story short, in my opinion, Pogba is neither the main problem neither devoid of guilt. He is what he is, a part of the problem. And as such, it needs to be adressed.
If the player can't fix whatever his problems are and turn himself into a part of the solution we are so desperately looking for, then it's better to get rid, no matter how good he is on theory.

But if we fix the problem with the team that will also fix alot of the problems in pogba game.

In theory, yes. He still has to do his part and work on his shortcomings and also his head has to be in Manchester, not Madrid.
If he underperforms now he'll have one year left on his contract and we'll get nowhere near his value on a transfer. In this case we'll sourly regret not selling him on this window.

As I previously said. I compare pogba to someone like Zidane who had exactly the same shortcomings. The difference is Zidane was always surrounded by top class players to cover those short comings. Whereas with us pogba isn't.

I couldn't disagree more with the comparison. A true and tried genious next to a player that has everything to prove.

Not saying pogba is as good. But the comparison makes sense Zidane was a very inconsistent player at club level even in the famous galacticos side he was often a liability defensively and gave the ball away a lot. The difference is that if your playing with other great players they can cover your flaws. Pogba had a great World Cup and was great for juventus but had players who covered his flaws.

Also remember at the same age pogba has a better resume than zidane.

Another difference is one was a real genius capable of wonderful moments of football in massive matches on a regular basis ... the other is Paul Pogba. No comparison at this stage in his career. We’ll revisit that one in 5 years.

Pogba has also shown this at the highest level.
Only in glimpses dude. Just saying, there are some players that have earned the title ‘beyond comparison’ and Zidane is one of them. Beautiful to watch. I’d love Pogboid to achieve that ... even more so playing with us.

Are you seriously comparing Pogba to Zidane? Pogba has been done no favours with being labelled a ‘superstar’ and comparisons to all-time great players. He’s absolutely nowhere near that level, often outplayed by relegation fodder midfields. Yes, he doesn’t have the best team mates and is talented but come on, that’s just ridiculous.

It might be true that Zidane had his flaws covered by his teammates, but in return he made everyone around him better as well, it was beautiful to see how he could conduct the midfield like a maestro. Pogba doesn't have that effect on the players around him.
Thing is, even when reading comments in his defense, what is evident is that PP is too high maintenance. Seems like a team needs to have very specific players with a high level of quality around him for him to perform at his best. A player of his caliber should be more adaptable.

Thsts fair enough and to be honest I didn't say pogba was a better player or of equal quality just that there is similarities between them as players. They both have similar strengths and weaknesses. One thing is for sure Zidane had a much higher mental capacity than Pogba which was part of what allowed him to make mistakes but do something great straight after.

Sell Pogba, and we sell any ambition to rise to the top again in Europe.

He is our best midfielder by a country mile, and when he's in the mood, he is awesome and puts us on the front foot. Yes, he has poor games when swarmed by mediocre grafters, but he is class.

Only a day after these comments from Ole about building the team around Pogba and offering him a new challenge, Raiola comes out and says it isn't the end.

Is Raiola actually unsettling the player or is it Pogba's true desire?

Who gives a feck what the pizza bastard wants or says? The club's position has been made clear and unless Real sell big, they likely won't be able to afford getting him in this summer irregardless of how much the fat man talks and attempts to speak it into existence.

He likes to believe that he has more power than he actually does but it's these clubs that will always get the final say. Unless you're an agent with legitimate ownership ties like Mendes, you can't just bully clubs into doing what's the most financially advantageous for you
