Is this happening or not?

I havent really kept abreast of this one.

Would like him though as immense in the air
I hope it is happening.

I wonder if Ed is thinking Leicester’s demands may come down the nearer we get to deadline day, as they are clearly going to be left with an unhappy player if reports are to be believed. Also he’s probably trying to save face a bit, after telling Mou (allegedly) that Maguire was no better than what we had and was over-priced last year.

We can get away without a RW or an attacking mid IMO. It's the dm/CM (one of the 2 depending on McTominays future) and the CB which we absolutely need.
We can put out 2 solid XIs with a good blend of experience, current ability and youth everywhere, but also need to cut a few players, provided we sign a top midfield and top CB. Assuming we sign Maguire and someone like Saul for example:
Gk - De Gea/Romero, Grant
Fullback - awb/dalot, shaw/young
Cb - Maguire/smalling, lindelof/tuanzebe, Jones
DM - McTominay/Matic
Cm - Saul/Fred
AM - Pogba/Pereira, Gomes
Wings - Martial/James, Mata/Lingard, Chong
St- Rashford/Greenwood/Sanchez

Surplus/likely to be sold - Lukaku, Darmian, Rojo, Bailly

Obviously a lot of these can play in multiple positions, but it's a decent group, especially keeping in mind that Ole does want to give a lot of the younger players a fair shot so they need their roles. You can argue we need 2 starting midfielders, but Ole wants McTominay to have a chance to make that his own. Fair enough. Same with striker/leftback/left wing.

Right wing we have options throughout between Mata/lingard as experienced players who are meh, to James/Chong/Greenwood who are young and getting roles in the first team. The plan might well be to get Sancho, but we're just waiting until he's ready to move. Giving youth the chance while we wait isn't an awful plan in that situation, especially when you have youth like Greenwood.

So yeah, while I'd understand in the win now scenario we would want all 4 addressed, realistically though we only actually need the one midfielder, be it a CM or defensive mid (or if Ole thinks Pogba is that all round CM and Mctominay is the future DM then an attacking mid, I just disagree with that blend), and then obviously a dominant ready made center back.

We really can't. Last season our contribution from RW was close to nil and things won't change by adding the player from the championship whose predominately a LW. I dare to say that we need a RW more then we need a CB. That's because I feel that if DDG signs a new contract + AWB, Tuanzebe and Lindelof (who had since settled down)'s contribution might be enough to provide us with a half decent defence.

Regarding kids we keep on mumbling about the class of 92 while forgetting that these kids were bedded in slowly (ie Between Giggs and Scholes in midfield there was a time span that took years) and surrounded by absolute stars. When Giggs came in he had Hughes upfront, Ince and Keane at his side, Irwin, Pally and Brucey at his back. Same with Gaz (Kanchelskis upfront, Pally and Brucey at his side and Schmeichel at his back) and Scholes (a now more experienced Giggs as LW, Keane at his back, Cantona up front). What do these kid have? Smalling? Matic? Jesse? We are asking more out of these kids then we asked from the class of 92 at a time when the EPL is tougher and we've got some rookie as manager not Sir Alex Ferguson.

PS If Lukaku is sold then we must replace him. Even Ole accepts that and he's been very very very accommodating to Woodward and co.

It is disrespectful to his club and teammates to throw a tantrum if its true. I personally doubt it. I would not want such a player at my team despite me liking Maguire at united.
Harry hasn't though, he's a true professional, this is all agent and media generated bs to create a story in a potential transfer which is currently at an impass.
As I have limited posts I will also cover off comments I've seen from other posters saying we haven't made our position clear, we have, Harry, his agent, yourselves and your neighbours who have made one bid each have been told exactly what fee we want to enter discussions.
We don't want to or need to sell.

Which is the right thing to do, don't mind it, they are not going to join the tour anyway.

Could be a case of Leicester holding this deal up until they have found a suitable replacement.

They are in no rush to sell, thus can wait until they've secured another CB before letting Maguire go.
No, isn't it obvious? We are waiting for the Lukaku money, then quick as flash Maguire will be through the door, everyone will wet themselves over the world record fee, and forget that Lukaku actually needs replacing.. Ed at his best.

Good business acumen. Would you go and pay the asking price for your home or would you not try and negotiate better terms? Would you go on holiday and pay the full price for a "bazaar" gift instead of bartering for a better, more appropriate price? Of course you wouldn't, you would look for any little niche that might save you a few pence / million pounds! I would like to see both of these players at OT but we should not be held to ransom just because we are affluent enough to pay it. Unfortunately for us, Ole is still an unknown quantity in the Prem so paying top dollar for a player who might not stay after 2 seasons would be an expensive gamble. We can't guarantee CL football, can't guarantee PL success, FA cup success or even Europa league success so these " stars " would be very wary about coming to us and their agents will be aware of this so will push for the highest possible price and then look for their next move away.

Someone said it perfectly the other day.
They said left to a large number of redcafe posters, they'd make up the missing 10m on deals such as Maguire, while letting Lukaku go for 10m less than we want. And over a summer, we'd suddenly find ourselves 60-80m down!

If we get just £10m less than we paid for Lukaku that is fantastic business for us. We signed a 24 year old striker who had just bagged 25 league goals for a midtable team, we are selling a 26 year old striker who could only manage 12 league goals for a top 6 team. He hasn't met expectations, in fact he's fell quite short. If we get £65m for him it's excellent business and we should rip their hand off for that.

Thank goodness you aren't leading the negotiations.

We'd be bankrupt in no time. We'd have already spent £90m on Maguire, £70m on Wan Bissaka, £75m on Fernandes (who most will never have seen play) and sold Lukaku for £45m by now if some had their way.

If you think we'll get more than £65m for Lukaku you're out of your mind. That is a great deal for us. I'd take anything over 45, he's shite.
Inter have apparently offered £60m + £15m in bonuses (£75m all in). Why on earth would the club accept £65m when a higher amount is currently being negotiated?

I was right with you up until the last sentence. Why would Maguire’s agent push for the ‘highest possible price’ if Maguire himself wants the move. Not in his clients interest. The agent is much more likely to push for the highest possible wage from us for his client and, if anything, fight to get a realistic price from Leicester for his client in order to make the move happen.

We won't be held to ransom A.K.A. we will pay you what you want but negotiations will take twice as long.

being honest, i think all agents will want as much of a fee as is humanly possible. I have stated before that i think most agents are selfish and snakes and that is the only reason I said that. IF Maguire absolutely wants the move, which I think he genuinely does, then his agent will have to do right or risk being released as his rep, however, LCFC hold all the aces and we will just have to wait and see how this challenge pans out.

What does it matter what the price is if the press are going to report a fee of £350 million regardless?

Even though it’s ‘Sky sources’ reporting it I love the idea of Maguire wanting to follow in the footsteps of his idols in Rio and Vidic and also being honoured to play for us, for too long we’ve had players come simply for the money and put in a half shift at best most of the time.

Is Maguire the best ? No but he’s the best option available to us and a quality Premier League player who’s played Champions League and World Cup football. At 26 his best years are ahead of him and he’s an organiser as well as a leader and that’s two things we seriously lack, we need characters in the squad like him for our rebuild.
