Interesting back four, seriously though we can't go into the season with Lingard as the stating 10 please

Apart from Matic I like that team.

Looking forward to seeing how James does on the right and Tuanzebe alongside Lindelof. I'm assuming it's a 4-2-3-1 again.

I liked Matic's comments yesterday, so let's see if he can back them up

Matic is our worst player imo. Ole surely cant play him every week. Ill lose faith in him very quickly if he does

Midfield 3 not great but get to see what James is like on the right, let's see how he does with Wan-Bissaka, that's a frightening amount of speed.

I personally would have loved to have seen Gomes start in that number 10 position. Been excellent so far on this tour.

I like the fact that Ole has come up with settled on a formation, and that he has a clear idea about how the team will play: Lingard or Mata starting at #10; interchanging wingers behind a pacy striker; a 4-2-3-1 where the fullbacks are defensively solid, the wingers are relatively high and the CMs sit relatively deep.

But I think it's a huge mistake to rely on Pogba as a man to screen our centrebacks. He's shockingly bad at it. I'm on board with every other part of Solskjaer's strategy apart from that.

Inter's midfielders will spend the entire game running off Pogba into the box. It's the biggest weakness I see in this side, and an easy one to exploit for any decent opposition manager.

In a 4-2-3-1, Pogba's only natural position is in the hole.

I really hope Gomes will step up this season even though he's very young, because I can't watch Lingard start for us another season.

I actually think that team, with Bruno in for Lingard and Maguire in for Tuanzebe (who will become the understudy), looks capable enough for top four, providing the “on paper” special players such as Pogba, Rashford and Martial actually play to their capacity.

Id love to see a more mobile CDM bought but if not, the reality is that Matić is the most composed of the ones we do have although it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Fred improves or McT continues to develop.

I hope that pogba get the CAM this season with Mata or lingard as backup if this is the formation we going for. With McTominay and Fred/Matic behind him. With this speed on the flanks he's going to shine.

Love that back four.
Aye. It's super talented. Just a bit lacking aerially.

Unlike the LvG days or Jose's first season, I think this backline can keep clean sheets without needing defensive team tactics to help them. They're all individually very good.

Matic and Lingard are nowhere near as bad as you drama queens seem to think.
Matic will be good if rested from time to time, Lingard on the other hand doesn't offer anything even his movement which was his only above average attribute is now gone.

Matic no. He is just past it. Lingard yes. Gomes instead of him would be great.
Matic was fine the season before last. Last season, he was carrying an injury and had no preseason. He'll be fine again in 19/20.

Lingard is a significantly better player than Gomes right now.

That seems to be our 1st choice XI then. Glad Martial is on the left so we can actually see how he works with Rashford. He's simply not a striker. Happy to see Axel starting alongside Lindelof. Probably suggests he is 2nd choice out of our current cbs. Matic starting instead of McTominay is frustrating. I expect most of the team will get 60 mins with maybe a couple coming off at 45 mins

Loving that back four. Would hope that for Chelsea, McTominay would come in for Matic and hopefully Fernandes for Lingard. Also can't see Tuanzabe starting so early in the season.

Tuanzabe, Matic, Lingard, James, Shaw I'd guess will come off around 45. Rest I reckon will get longer.

Ya, that cm of Matic and Pogba is the glaring weakness though (defensively I mean, obviously Pogba's an incredible asset in attack)

His movement isn't now gone.
What I wanted to say is that he used to make smart runs but last season his movement was just brainless at times.

Plus his stats are close to a championship winger playing in the PL.

The team picked today is clearly (roughly) representative of the what will start the season.

That Lingard is still an important member of the attack is an issue and it’s only right that people have concerns. He isn’t good enough to be a regular here and if he is, we will struggle to score goals for the seventh consecutive season.
