Nooooo….not the classic back from tour line!
Ed was always coming back from the tour/staying back from the tour for business for years
Not too bothered where Ed is, though it helps if he’s here I suppose. Key is that Ole is back here. He can have a direct conversation with Ed/Transfer Committee but importantly will be available to speak personally to targets if a bid is accepted. For that reason I think we will throw some more offers out when he’s back. I know I wouldn’t want to accept a job without speaking to my prospective future boss and understand his plans.

He can always speak on the phone!

I can't imagine Maguire is sitting there thinking, I haven't spoken to Ole - that's a deal breaker! How does he want me to play? Passing and heading and stuff?

If I was Longstaff I’d certainly want to sit down with Ole and understand how much game time I will get, how he plans to use me, will I be first choice etc.

If I was Maguire I’d want to be sure he was the right manager for me, understand his vision for the club, find out the defensive coaching structure, etc, etc. Basically to sell him and the club to me. Nothing to do with the basics of passing and heading. I’d want to make certain this is the right move for me.

That's a fair point. Ole has repeatedly said he has nothing to do with transfer negotiations.

However, and it maybe doesn't happen that often, but there have been times when 'x' player has said speaking to the manager convinced them to join their club.

Mangers will always speak to the players. When the manager says he is not involved in negotiations, he just means the financial aspect, i.e. negotiating the fee and contract.

Correct, and that’s why we rarely do transfers whilst on tour. I would not take a new job without the chance to sit down with my prospective new boss. Who knows, I might not even like them when I see them face to face, or they fail to give me the answers I am looking for. It’s a key part of the recruitment process. Just because we put an acceptable bid in doesn’t, necessarily, mean it’s a done deal. If I meet the manager and think he’s an idiot then I’m not likely to move.

So all ITKs are bullshitters then?
Yes.

Some may get lucky with a guess, or have some very vague mate who once tips them off about something minor.
But no ITK has any real consistency.
All ITKs are a wonderful source of muppetry to distract from the continued train wreck of Ed Woodward and Matt Judge transfers.

I've had a couple glasses of wine, missus traveling for work so no one to laugh at me for arguing on the internet about football in offseason and remind me that I'm kind of a loser for it. Anyway, imagine my pinky finger up as I have the time and bac to proclaim that I do in fact know better.

Are you in here enjoying the Reddit ITK summaries without having to scroll through, literally, thousands of comments on Reddit? Fantastic. I'm with you.

Are you in here constantly moaning about the inconsistencies and how you think all of the ITKs are just attention seeking? Ah, well sorry to break it to you but your opinions and the time you spend putting them into this thread are a complete moot point and waste of good human capacity. ITKs are a feckin alternate rumor mill to the old school teletext, Twitter feed and half a step from the drunk fool in the pub. The fact that you think YOU are somehow special for acknowledging is a pretty ironic farce. Seriously, you have nothing better to do than sit and spoil a bit of us muppetry loving loser's fantasy? Even after the well orchestrated and quite hilarious ITK attempt by that user DB Cooper...the one that got thousands thinking De Ligt was on a flight to Manchester...the muppet thread stand strong and are always more jovial than the more austere official transfer threads. We love this shit. We know it's shit. So you're a miserable fool for taking the time to remind us. If you're truly on a mission to stop the spread of nonsense, there are oh so many more meaningful truths to expose. Maybe try and prevent Trump from getting reelected..oh oh Brexit from materializing...oh wait Boris

That Sean Enderby clown is still trying to argue he's right, but blamin Woodward saying he needs to hurry up.

Some guy said that medical is taking a while, to which Sean said he never mentioned a medical.
Only for someone to quote his "probably Tuesday" (last week)

Just a waste of time.

He'll claim he called it if we buy Maguire in 2 weeks.
And if we don't he'll claim something unforeseen came up.

My only experience with ITK stuff came when Red Bull were supposed to be buying out Leeds. I heard from a very, very senior executive at Red Bull that they would be buying the club way before it hit the media. Then it hit the media, and the next time we saw each other, he told me it was absolutely a done deal and would close out and be announced in the next few days. This is a guy who was actually involved in the negotiations at some level, and works for the company on a global level. And that deal never went through. And as he says it, the football world is unusually volatile in decision making for major businesses, as there is often much more input from across the emotional spectrum. This is not a defence of ITKs, because 95% of it is patently made up nonsense; but there always remains an element in truth to the notion that in the football world, things are difficult to predict. Which is of course an uncertainty that ITKs trade off. There is way more ego headbutting, and passion plays, in football than in other major business that I am aware of.

Enderby guy is hilarious.

Now he's saying it's "Not his fault" if Ed is boobing around re - signing Maguire.

And now it's "...if Maguire goes".

Utter numbskull

Reddit ITK just said that we are trying to get Eriksen, and we prefer him to Dybala. Goal is to sell Lukaku to Inter, buy Eriksen, Spurs buy Dybala. But if can't agree with Levy, then we get Dybala instead.

Sounds like a pile of BS. Its better if we get Dybala, Spurs lose Eriksen on a free.

Quite incredible, and obvious, shite made up on the back of very recent media speculation.

I doubt anyone would have that level of detail about United’s transfer strategy, but the giveaway is the inclusion of Spurs buying Dybala which is beyond anyone at United’s knowledge.

Was just released now, but was submitted before the recent reports.

Also, we are using Dybala interest to lever Levy into selling us Eriksen, which is pretty sneaky.

r/muppetiers is the place to be for muppets, but if you want negativity or skepticism, just stay here.

That makes zero sense, why not cut Spurs out of it completely and sell Lukaku to Juve whilst getting Dybala (if possible)? Means spurs are then left with Eriksen with a year left on his deal

Why would Erikson (or Dybala for that matter) sign for United right now? Aside from truck loads of cash I suppose

That's the last We've seen of him, eleven simon.
Hilarious to me that some of you are so naive. It's not even like you have to be any sort of business guru with personal experience in negotiations to know how much deals can change in an instant. In my work experience I've seen contracts signed and then not fulfilled. But don't believe me, just think back to one of the wackiest transfers :

Jon Obi Mikel

He signed for United and went to Chelsea! You'd hang an ITK back then for saying he was a done deal. You can only present the info you have at the moment. Things change or take longer than we think even after a confirmation.

This. See it all the time in my own work which has a lot to do with contracts, announcements and negotiations.

Not defending any ITK here, most are probably bullshitters or using media rumours as source but things can and do change quickly in these kind of things even when everything seems nailed on.

Exactly. Should take it all with a grain of salt. The salt being a sense of reality and knowing how real life works.

I'd personally prefer Eriksen.

With any transfer it's a risk, however, I'd rather have a player who has played in the PL than someone coming over from Italy.

More wages? More famous club? More history? Better chance at winning trophies than Spurs?

Tottenham have had a few good years but they're nowhere near us yet.

We are almost guaranteed a trophy this season (Europa League), with a shot at cups. Spurs are almost guaranteed to claim top 4 spot and not win any cups as always.
