 Wish we could include Sanchez somehow.
Would be the greatest deal in history then

I was hoping we could have flogged off Sanchez this summer, but it doesn't even appear China wants him.

Martial or Rashford can play out wide with freedom to come inside.

We used a similar structure against Tottenham at Wembley. Lingard was the #10 then.
Neither of them are effective playing on the right

Martial
Left: 111 games 59 goals+assists 1.88 games per goal/assist
Central: 91 games 37 goals+assists 2.46 games per goal/assist
Right: 15 games 2 goals+assists 7.50 games per goal/assist

Rashford
Left: 52 games 21 goals+assists 2.48 games per goal/assist
Central: 104 games 50 goals+assists 2.08 games per goal/assist
Right: 17 games 3 goals+assists 5.67 games per goal/assist

If we do sign him and play 4-2-3-1 I would like to see us try this

Martial
Rashford - Dybala - Greenwood
We have another friendly right?
He could play the right side but if you sign Dybala and don't play him at 10 where he's world class then that's probably not too clever is it? Big question marks over the Fernandes transfer if this happens.

Ideally we'd have a new signing there, but they'd have freedom to come inwards.

They wouldn't hug the touchline.

If Bruno is signed too, we might be using a diamond.

True, but I don't think they had good synergy on the field.

Ibra + Pogba had way better synergy on the field.
Lukaku's hold up play is poor, while Ibra's was superb - attacking midfielders like Pogba (and Dybala) often perform well with a Mandzukic/Giroud-type #9 to link up with/play off.

I can't see Lukaku fitting in with Sarri's style at all. The Inter links made total sense, but this doesn't.
It makes sense if Juve is manipulating Inter trying to get them to up their bid for Lukaku and offload Icardi to them faster.
Icardi to Juve makes sense, the Lukaku links dont.

Makes sense. Will take another day or 2 to clear up as reported previously but things have gotten a lot more clearer now.

In my opinion what we're seeing now is journos' interpretation of the bit of news we had about 6 hours ago. We should be hearing some more actual news tomorrow and after.

Yeah, I read they're cutting back on taking other countries recyclables because it's unprofitable. We might have to leave him outside the ground and hope someone nicks him.

So, applying that to our team, how would we likely have to set up to get Dybala in that specific role?
I would say from how I’ve seen OGS set up so far, at the head of a midfield diamond in a free role in front of Pogba and (hopefully) Bruno Fernandes or a free role behind the striker in a similar formation. He has the necessary attributes and skill imo to play as a wide forward or wide am in a 433 or 4231 but from the little I’ve seen he tends to drift out of games when deployed there. He can play behind the striker in a 4231 but playing Pogba as part of a midfield 2 in this formation hasn’t worked particularly well in the past to say the least. I could however be wrong and would definitely defer to posters who follow Serie A closer.

Feet up at home.
This could get mentally good. Dybala CB Bruno plus AWB done. If Pogba stays I am confident of a good season. Let's get Dave's deal done and what a window. Might even give Ed a break for a change.

I’m convinced this will happen. Will be a stunning signing and if we get Maguire (looks certain) and one more then let’s sit back and see all the back tracking from the football world about us finishing mid table and won’t win a title in next ten years.

If this is just the start of the rebuild then I cannot wait to see the last bit of the jigsaw in three or four transfer windows time.

Whisper it quietly but Manchester United could be on the way back !!!!

Unsure how I feel about this. Unless it’s Mbappé, I don’t want any player to stop us from possibly going to Jadon Sancho next year. He’s the one.

Also, much as I love Dybala (I was totally sold on him coming here before we got Sanchez, and was sceptical about Sanchez for that reason) - but I am in the camp of curiosity of how it would work tactically. He is a very gifted player and capable goalscorer to the extent that in a perfect storm, if the system came together - he could be our Cantona. That said, I can’t see how it will happen.

What’s the consensus here? Good deal?
Meh, some of us think he addresses a need we don't really have when we have other priorities. Most are just happy we're signing Paulo Dybala. I didn't actually see us being able to offload Lukaku in a satisfactory manner this year though, so maybe this isn't too bad.

Perfect.

They'd make a mockery of defences.
Our defence would be a mockery as well tbf with that midfield/attack.

In all seriousness though, I think we'd rotate between a 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, and a 4-3-1-2. So if we assume Lingard is the extra starter in the midfield/attack to balance the formations because of his work rate, versatility and link up play (likeliest scenario IMO), then we'd have the following:

De Gea
AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
McTominay Pogba
Lingard Dybala Martial
Rashford

De Gea
AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
Lingard McTominay Pogba
Dybala
Rashford Martial

De Gea
AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
Lingard McTominay Pogba
Dybala Martial Rashford
Backup 11: Romero, Dalot, Tuanzebe, Smalling, Young, Matic, Fred, Pereira, Mata, James, Greenwood

Grant, Jones, Chong, Gomes, Garner extra to fill out the squad.
Sanchez, Rojo, Darmian pointless.

Can't really get exicited about this guy. He doesn't seem like an Ole but a Woodward signing. I fear he'd be another Di Maria or Sanchez and won't fit our style of play.

Can someone please change my opinion?

Yep. I believe it will be a Griezmann-France type role. 10 at times and RW at others. Either way, being allowed to change and criss cross throughout play.
Mbappé is the one playing on the right and Griezmann has a free role.

Dybala isnt a RW and even then its not like we couldnt also get Sancho when we still have the likes of Lingard in the side. Also Martial could move upfront and I am not sold on James

If we're already swapping Lukaku for Dybala I wonder if there's any other players they'd take in straight swaps? Darmian, Sanchez, Rojo, or Fred perhaps? Which of their fringe players could we actually use?

They don't play in the same position yet you stated you would want him if if Lo Celso wasn't attainable

But I'm the one talking bollocks obviously...
I didn't say they can't play in the same position. They can play in the position - i.e. a fluid AM role - but Lo Celso doesn't also play as a forward, unlike Dybala.

For Spurs, and the way we play and are set-up, Lo Celso is probably a better fit. If that opinion puts your nose out of joint for some reason, then too bad.

It is an Ole signing, dont worry. No player joining this summer will be here if Ole doesnt want him, thats guaranteed

I’m sort of thinking the same. Admired him since Palermo and all things being perfect I would want him here but I’d be curious to see how Ole plans to use him in his system within this 4231 which it looks like it will be.

You would think central in that line of 3 but then with Pogba and Matic behind I’m just not all that confident in those 2 to do the job to cover having someone like Dybala in that role.
