It will seem like a much better deal if we can sell two or three of Rojo, Darmian, Smalling or Jones.

Very happy with the deal, finally we have a leader at the back and most importantly a player that wants to play for the badge.

Solid back 4 now that's easily good enough for us to catch the top 4 places this season.

My only gripe with this transfer is that we should have just paid the money earlier so that he could bed in with the squad and our style of play sooner.

That being said, he's going to be an absolute tank for us in defence. Him, AWB and Tuanzebe in will be like having a brand new defence.

For the first time since Rio and Vidic we now have a leader at the back along with an actual right back . Happy days the back 4 now picks itself add another CM and a sprinkle of stardust in the shape of Dybala and we can be excited about our prospects again .
This is it. I think we can finally name a lot more players in the first 11 which hasn’t been possible for a while.

De Gea

Shaw
Lindelof
Maguire
AWB

Pogba
Matic / McTominay
Really need another CM

Martial / Sanchez?
Rashford
Really need a RW

Every team has holes though. Straight swap for Lukaku and Dybala would be a good deal. I’d try Sanchez on the right as well. Think we played him once once that wing.

Tuanzebe won't start. It'll be shaw, maguire, lindelof and awb.

You're talking about the guy who downed tools to force a move out of Leicester.
Now you are making stuff up. He was absent but the club has never said he was absent without leave. He was probably granted time either for illness or to sort stuff out. You cant just make stories up..... unless your a journalist

I pray you are right with that last last part. We do have this tendency of having CBs with terrible fitness levels
He had a good pre-season and this thing about fitness levels of our CB's... We can now say goodbyes to some of these so called 'professional' defenders, because with Maguire and Tuanzebe stepping up, it's getting crowded there. We'll be finally forced to sell which should trigger a needed quality control in that formation.

Red Card for Casemiro!
Somewhere, Jose is having a laugh.

I don't care about the fee, though. He may not be the best CB around, but he's a very good CB with a great mentality. He's also good in the air, can pass out from the back, and brings leadership to the defence.

Such a massive massive upgrade.

Only time will tell if we've over paid for him.
People thought £75m for VVD was ridiculous, doesn't look so stupid now.
I’ve heard the argument before but I really don’t see what VVD has to do with Maguire. People might have though the fee was high and maybe a gamble (as all transfers are) but loads of pundits thought he was the best defender in the league, whilst playing for Southampton, plus all it takes is to actually watch them play to see that VVD is far superior.

The argument that unlinked ‘X’ player did well so ‘Y’ player might just has no correlation for me. Yes, it might happen but they aren’t dependent on each other and it’s really just ‘anything can happen’ - You can support any ‘out there’ prediction, like Jamie Vardy won the league and POTY, so let’s recruit a team from non-league footballers...yes strange things happen but based on what we’ve seen, Leicester have fleeced us and are receiving a world record fee for Harry Maguire .

We're not buying him off the shelf from Tesco. Leicester were quite obviously being difficult and the players attitude/desperation to move played a part in getting the move through.

It happened with Van Djik and Southampton too.

Watching Smalling & Jones play the ball out of the back week in home and away last season, i can tell you that the ball playing ability will upgrade the team as a whole massively.

I've never seen a more awkward professional's technique then Smalling playing a pass, mans like a compass pivots on one leg its bizarre.
Oh yeah definately. For once I will be comfortable in us playing out from the back!

You overestimate this club.

We waited for Fellaini's release clause to expire before buying him for close to £30 million.

We sent some fake agents to Bilbao to sign Herrera before his transfer fell through.

We dawdled signing Ronaldinho for £25 million before he signed for Barca and became a world class player.

We agreed to sign Kroos before reneging on the signing when we got a new manager.

It's just how we roll.
Your username is incredibly appropriate for our transfer activities

Not a big fan of him. Not sure this is an uppgrade. Hopefully his fitness level will be a big improvement over the rest of our guys.

We have to get rid of one of them now IMHO.

Pleased. Relieved. Still, a lot of money for a player who is not world class.

Good stuff. I've always been skeptical of Maguire but you have to back your manager in his first window or two, and at least see how he does with the players who align with his vision.

Also, we appear to have a lot of fans here who enjoy nothing more than belittling the club and throwing their brains out of the window in the process. There's people claiming we got bullied. I mean, you chaps do realise we've signed the center back we wanted to bring into the club. We're happy and they're happy. The whole 'poor bullied United made to look like fools like the incredible Leicester' is laughable. Maybe it's influenced by the absurd number of their fans on this forum for no apparent.

Anyhoo, we got our third signing. Well done. On to the next one.

Not that bothered about the fee, any defender of his quality was going to cost a huge amount of money in this window and he easily improves our first team. Yes it seems like too much, but we can afford it and he could be someone who makes a big difference for us this season

The fee we paid for Van Dijk was ridiculous at the time. He wasn't considered anywhere close to the level he's at now and definitely not world class.

I'm not saying Maguire will reach those levels, but the fee is relative to the requirements of the team buying that player. We desperately needed a CB and a GK, so paid world record fees for both. United desperately need a CB who will be an improvement on what they have, so they paid a world record fee to get the player they feel will be that defender for them.

Finally we signed ball playing CB who is excellent at carrying the ball forward and heading the ball, and some of your are miserable? fecking hell, 70 million or 80 million doesn't matter once he is signed.

Really excited about having him here. Best CB available and the fact there will be no adjustment time needed is a huge plus. Just like AWB and James, he's a player who wants to be at the club which we've all realized how important that is.
