If we manage to pull this off then this transfer window will turn into a great one from a bad one. Unfortunately it feels like Ed is taking us on another ride yet again.

That makes no sense. The rumor is that Ole doesn't want to add players who don't want to be at United. Hence, Dybala deal was supposedly cancelled. But somehow we are willing to add a player whose coming to United because we'd be offering more money than Spurs. Hmmm.... this sounds vaguely familiar. An attacking midfielder who played in London and had one year left on his contract and decides to move to United because we offered him more in wages....
I would say Eriksen would want to join the biggest club in England. Zidane doesn't fancy him and Barca don't want him either it seems. If they did, I'm sure Levy would've preferred selling him to one of those clubs.

Eriksen comes from a country where Manchester United is very popular. I can definitely see Eriksen joining us due to our stature/history as a club. With time running out in the window I feel Levy will try and cash in on a player that is wanting a fresh challenge at 27. Spurs have most likely tried to sell him abroad but to no avail. I can see Spurs selling him to us, rather than lose him for nothing. Eriksen's body language is also pretty telling from what I've seen in preseason. And Spurs might well have to bite the bullet, rather than hold onto a unhappy player which could be detrimental to their cause.

Eriksen is a playmaker that would suit us far more than Bruno Fernandes IMO. Fernandes has a better strike from range than Eriksen but Eriksen does everything else better and is more proven at a higher level.

Why would Erikson leave a Champions League runner-up team to join a team that lost to relegated Huddersfield and Cardiff? :(
Think from his perspective...

Why do we do this every transfer window? Do we never learn?
No:lol::lol:. Because with Eriksen situation is different. He really really really wants to come and play and die for Man Utd. Money is not an issue. He will accept anything.

I know this is likely BS but I would have this lad over Dybala any day of the week. He is fecking class!

But if he waits until January he can sign a pre-contract with any club he wants, quite possibly in the 350-400K per week range given that the winning club won't have to pay any transfer fee at all. Aaron Ramsey got 400K per week from Juventus and had other suitors as well and Eriksen is the better player.

He might end up having his pick of clubs like Madrid, Barca, United, City, PSG, etc in five months at very very high wages. This is not a knock on United, but the only way it makes sense for him to commit his future now is if you pay him an absurd amount of money. And why pay him that much money plus a big transfer fee to Spurs? At that point you might as well have signed Dybala because the cost will be similar.

The more you break down this situation, the less and less sense it makes for the various parties involved to do anything but wait until January and try to cut Spurs out of the picture.
Eriksen doesn't strike me as a player that wants to move for the money. He's 27 and is reported to be on £75k a week. If he does sign for us, then I'm sure he will get a huge increase from the peanuts Spurs have been paying him.

I think it's a case of him wanting a fresh challenge at a historical club steeped with tradition. Barca and Madrid don't seem to want him or need him due to various reasons. So that leaves United as a possible destination which I'm sure Levy didn't want becoming a possibility. But with time running out in the window, I'm sure Spurs will try and get something for him, rather than lose him for nothing.

Because he won’t ever better his season with Spurs and is after a new challenge and feels unappreciated financially at spurs.

Recent Champions League finalists or a club that has been in crisis for six years and doesn't seem to know its way out of it quite yet... What a difficult choice.

The only thing we can offer players that Spurs can't right now is money. That might change over the next few years, but at the moment Spurs are a much safer choice if the goal is to compete for trophies, and it's not like players won't be making a very healthy amount of money playing for them either.

I know it's Spurs and we like to joke about that, but they've become a stable top four side that are more and more competitive across all competitions and they've got a brand new stadium in a city with a lot more pulling power than Manchester. They've also got a manager with a much better track record. It's naïve to say they're not an attractive option.

Come off it this is a wum surely? please tell me how many trophies Spurs have won in the last 15 years vs how many we have won in the last 3. The least renowned club of the top 6 for getting trophies by a long stretch

We would be able to control any game with Gomes-Pogba-Eriksen roaming in front of a holding player.

From his persepective, he'll be joining the biggest club in England with great history and tradition and a much bigger support than Spurs. He'll be following in the footsteps of the 'great Dane' Peter Schmeichel.

Manchester United is a juggernaut of World football along with Barca, Madrid, Bayern etc. The last 6 years don't just erase our allure that was built up by SAF and Sir Matt over decades. We just bloody broke the world transfer record for a CB which should tell players like Eriksen that we're serious about getting back to the top.

We should have bought him when he left Ajax. We were sniffing around but unwilling to pull the trigger while Spurs were offering him solid playing time and showed confidence in him. Thinking about what could have been...

A big pay increase and joining a club that despite not putting together great league campaigns, has actually won a lot more than spuds over the last 5 years. Am I right in saying spurs haven't won anything for over a decade?

So turn the question around why would he want to stay somewhere on lower pay and not play for a team that can actually hold it's bottle when it comes to winning things?

So by the logic in this thread why would any player want to play for United? Should we just close up shot and say we're out of the business? Or are our only options either average players or players we have to pay paying the GDP of small countries to?

Same here. Dybala is a second striker. That's virtually an extinct position now. I'd much rather have a top class cam like Eriksen who can actually create and make our attacks more fluid. I certainly wouldn't have been unhappy if we'd signed Dybala but Eriksen makes a lot more sense. Of course we may have left it too late...

We should put in a 60m bid. Spurs wouldn't want to let him go for free. If the player is ready to move, this deal could actually happen. We can rule out Juventus and Barca moving for him as they are pretty packed in that area. Madrid have also spent a lot and might not have funds. Bayern and PSG are the other options but they don't seem to be interested in an Eriksen type player.

Pogba Eriksen McT midfield would be terrific. The strongest midfield we'd have had in years. Sadly I really can't see it.
Absolutely this. I've been and advocate of the 4231 system Ole's implementing but I see no reason to not revert to a 433 (as uggested in the midfield trio quoted), and take advantage of the whole team's strenghts. Some people dont give the possibility to change and adapt. To me Ole is able to adapt, something that was one of SAF's biggest qualities

Good player but much like Dybala, not really the one we need. We're relatively well stocked in terms of attacking midfielders, we need someone who can dictate the play from deep.
You mean Mata, Lingard and Gomes? None of them are anywhere close to Eriksen's level. We need players who can help us breakdown a stubborn defense. Pogba and Eriksen in the same team would do wonders for our attack. We do need a DM too I don't deny that but I feel a No.10 is more crucial at the moment.

He’s 27 and had a price tag of 130m one year ago, while you can have him for half now with one year left if his contract. I’ll rather think of what can be.

In what world is this a bad window? Ridiculous statement. We’ve signed De Gea to a long term deal, brought in our first choices for RB and CB, setting a new world record in the process. And signed a hugely promising young forward. Just because we need more, doesn’t make this a bad window. Might take 2-3 windows to get the squad to where it needs to be.

With that midfield (McT, Eriksen, Pogba) 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3 are both same.

Yes we 100% would - we need money to bring in his replacement and players who actually want to play for the club.
Eriksen is the one we would need to convince. But Levy might be hesitant to sell him to us I think. Since the European window will be open for another month, he'll probably just wait it out and hope for someone else to swoop in.

Well there is that!

Thing with Levy is, although he wont want to sell to us, this isnt the Daniel Levy of 2012/13. Spurs didnt spend a penny last year. They'll sell at the right price (although, possibly not to us.)
Didn't he sell his Berba and Carrick though? It's not unheard of for him to sell to us.

This is not happening. The media needed a new target to sell as United clearly briefed them that Dybala is off and Fernandes was never a target.

And to top that, if we have 1 player to add in the next 3 days it won't be him. What we need is a work horse, something like Idrissa Gueye or Wilfred Ndidi type of player. Not Erikson.

He can make up the wage difference by leaving on a free, I think it's more that Spurs will just want to sell to get 50-60M to get Lo Celso from Betis paid for.

I'm a little surprised Bayern aren't in for him. They have a small squad and Eriksen is versatile, and he's available for a decent price. Maybe they have Havertz basically signed up for next year but if not, he'd give them a passing and crossing quality that Goretzka and Tolisso don't have, and he'd probably get the best out of Lewandowski for his last few years when he'll need better and better service. And obviously Spurs would prefer to sell abroad.

He'd be a great signing here, not only to give us an excellent #10 and improve our set pieces (he's been up and down but much, much better than our other options) but I think we've been lucky that Pogba never misses any time and we could survive a few games of Pogba being out with Eriksen to take over the creative burden.

I guess you might be new to football otherwise you would know that Utd have a bigger history than two games at the end of last season.

I said at the start of the transfer window we would get Eriksen. Yeah seems ridiculous but the situation isnt so black and white. Firstly I dont see any big clubs going in for him. secondly he wants to leave. Thirdly Levy is an arse but even he can see losing a player for nothing next year is madness.
Its basically down to the player. If he is telling spurs no way im signing and ill leave next year then they would be bonkers not to accept 70/80 now

I think his dream move is RM, if that doesnt materialise he will stay at Spurs. He wants to win trophies, unfortunately we are in a bit of a rebuilding process so we are in the same boat as Spurs at the moment in regards to what trophies we can offer.

We should have bought him when he left Ajax. We were sniffing around but unwilling to pull the trigger while Spurs were offering him solid playing time and showed confidence in him. Thinking about what could have been...
City were also in for him but couldnt guarantee him the playing time Spurs could. He had the option of going to City and sitting on the bench behind Silva or walking into the Spurs starting 11. He chose the right move career wise opting for a smaller wage but guaranteed playing time at Spurs. Also it took some time for him to mature into the player he is now. The 21 y/o Christian Eriksen is not equal to the 27 y/o Christian Eriksen. Like most young players he had a lot of parts of his game he had to polish, one of the big complaints is he would just go missing in games. And like a lot of young players new to the league he wasnt strong enough on the ball or up for the physicality of the league.

I kind of agree, except Eriksen himself came out in the press and said that he wanted a new challenge but if nothing materialised he was happy to stay at Spurs, 'there are not too many boxes Spurs do not tick' I think was the direct quote. To me this says RM or Barca, if it doesnt happen Im happy to stay put.

As I said in my previous post unfortunately we are in a bit of a rebuilding process. I get the feeling Eriksen wants to win something, he has just as much chance at Spurs as here given our current state of affairs.

Having said all that if he has 100% confirmed he has no intention of signing a new contract at Spurs then yes Levy would be mad not to sell him this window and let him walk for free when his contract expires. It would be totally worth a sneaky bid, classy player all round.

Madrid will snap him in next few weeks for a moderate sum after realizing how shitty their midfield is.

To those who think United can sign him, the minimum that cnut Levy will even start the negotiations is £80-90m from us. We'd be funding the signings of Le Celso along with Bruno and strengthening them massively. That's assuming Eriksen would be willing to come here in the first place. This is an absolute non-starter, next.
