So because we failed to sign our main target for a position we should spend a significant amount of money on a far inferior player simply because he can play in that position, despite having squad members and youth products who can play in that position until our main target is gettable?

I guess Ed isn't that bad if this is the alternative.
We don't have a fecking RW and haven't done for 5 years - we were also never linked to a RW all summer. Instead with bought a Championship LW to play on the right. That's an inferior target.

Nothing to do with Ole’s balls.

The owners are cost cutting and Ole has been told how it’s going to be.

How can anybody not see this???
Yeah, he was desperate to keep Smalling, Lukaku and Sanchez. They’ve done a number on his plans.

So why panic buy now when we seem to be in pole position for our number one target?
Do you genuinely believe Sancho will come here when we don't qualify for the Champions League? Most players don't give a dam about our history or what we use to be. It's about the now, and right now with our current squad, lack of signings and over reliance and faith on our youth we are Europa League at best, with a few injuries even worse.

How is your assertion that we won’t get CL football any different to people thinking we’ll sign him?

I don't know but im not going to impose my perception of our short comings on Sancho. We obviously got some encouragement last year or else we would have moved on.
Rule out City and Liverpool not having a spot for him where would he go if he simply wants to come home to England.
It may be as simple as that.

Probably because you're making suppositions based on nothing but your bias.

IF we don't qualify then he probably won't come, however there is alot of football to be played before the top 4 is decided.

If he watches us play we are screwed...

Let’s hope he is too busy dreaming about OT to actually bother.

How exactly? We didn't sign him and then he signs a 5 year contract and a mega payrise to stay at Dortmund. Clearly Dortmund are protecting their investment but he will cost £150m+ based on recent transfers. So all our budget next summer, if we even have that much to spend will be on one player? I can't see it.

And if he had confidence to leave England before he was 20 years old I wouldn't assume he will want to come back to England so soon.

Because there is a much higher probability will won't make top 4. Compare that to a player who has recently extended his contract and one of the most sort after youngsters in world football wanting to join us. We haven't been competitive for our domestic league for 6 years, soon to be 7.

Developng youngsters is a double-edged sword: if they succeed, it's great and sweet, but if they fail to live up to the expectations you have wasted 5 years and start the next rebuilding from a worse position. It's highly risky: you might end up with another class of 92 or with another 5 years without a title.
The only thing I say to this is that it is exactly the same with bought players. There is a risk. We have had numerous bought players in the last 20 years which are no better than others in our youth system. Yet because we paid big fees they automatically get chances others don't, get given the benefit of the doubt more, and tend to play more games.

You don't know any of this in advance, so you just have to have a plan/philosophy/process and trust in it.

I reckon we made mistakes with the likes of Buttner, Diouf, Bebe, Obertan, Bellion, Darmian, Rojo, Blanc, Ricardo, Djemba, Kleberson, Miller, Manucho, Tosic, Powell, Valdes, Depay, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Grant, Fred...

We could have played a dozen kids like Higginbotham, Shawcross, Keane, Drinkwater, Simpson, Rossi, Gomes and others and not necessarily weaken the team.

As always it's about balance, but there is nothing to suggest those players would have been worse.

I think this too. Last two transfer windows( and hiring cheap option like Ole) confirm that. "Watch this space" time is far behind us.

Did those skint bastards have to take a second mortgage on Camp Nou to get it done?
Their net spend over the last few years is less than ours. I think they’ll be just fine. I’m sure it’ll be paid in instalments too. Wouldn’t surprise me if Nike subsidise some aspect of it, as they did with De Jong.

Which is presumably why we cashed in on Pogba and De Gea this summer then? The players we have moved on either wanted the move or shouldn't have been here in the first place.

Lets hope Sanchez does well so we can finally get his insane wages off the books at the end of next season and hopefully get a fee for him as well. I hope we learn from this and that if he does hopefully go next summer, we don't decide to pay anyone anywhere near what he is getting. I am up for a player getting payed decent wages if he has been hear a while and shown that he 'deserves' these wages.

Now that Di Marzio has said it's close, I have my doubts about the deal happening.

Hopefully next season the PL can get rid of that stupid rule they put on themselves by only having 2 months of transfers. The managers that supported it are now complaining about it. Eejits.
