We're on course for 60 points if you want to extrapolate 5 games.
g = window.googletag || {}; googletag.cmd = googletag.cmd || []; window.googletag = googletag; googletag.cmd.push(function() { var interstitialSlot = googletag.defineOutOfPageSlot('/17085479/redcafe_gam_interstitial', googletag.enums.OutOfPageFormat.INTERSTITIAL); if (interstitialSlot) { interstitialSlot.addService(googletag.pubads()); } });
Have you taken account of XG though? We're on course for 60 points if you want to extrapolate 5 games.
Sample size is too small. Liverpool are on course for 114.We're on course for 60 points if you want to extrapolate 5 games.
That's my point. We'll get a better idea in 10 games.Sample size is too small. Liverpool are on course for 114.
The logic that we could have been on 13/15 points doesn't really work. Big teams tend to have much of the ball/game against lesser teams, or at least enough chances to win those games. And hence you can always point to moments in those games that could have swung it your way. For example I'm sure Mourinho and LVG would apply this logic to many of this draws in disappointing seasons claiming "had we taken those chances we'd be on 85 points". But it doesn't work that way. Teams miss chances. Teams miss penalties. Moments go against you just they otherwise go for you (see our game Vs Chelsea or Liecester albiet lesser so). It's just so strange being a United fan, as while I think performance-wise we haven't been great by any means, but we should have easily taken 13/15 points thus far and the vast majority of the time we would have. If those games were played again with a big moment or two going our way per game, we'd be close to maximum points and sitting in 2nd. I really just never know what to expect from us and I don't know whether that's exciting or frustrating.
Nope. People were on Jose's back since the day he was signed. Ole's gotten a pass. Not saying that has been wrong. But to accept poor performances is not ok regardless of the guy.You are not being genuine. Most neutrals have observed we play a more positive style of football now, as opposed to under LVG and Mou. The players as well. It’s the ability to pull it of that’s inconsistent.
You are comparing LVG and Mourinho after two full seasons to Solskjær five games into his first full season? Disingenuine. You are comparing Solskjær after three reinforcements, with LvG and Mou after 13 and 11? When you dub others knee jerk, is that hypocrisy?
‘ ... and here we are purring’. Are you? Have you read this thread? Are you genuine?
You are mentioning Mata, Young and Matic referring to heritage, why? Because they are old, when we play about the youngest team in the league? Because they are defensive players? Are they? What is your argument?
Especially when Liverpool have already won it.How can any team "challenge" for the title in September .
Don't be jealous mate, it's nearly time for the annual dusting of your trophy cabinet. How can any team "challenge" for the title in September .
Who the feck thinks we are in the title race? Or ever would be this seasonEven if we had scored those penalties, won those two games and were only 2 points behind Liverpool but played the same way we still wouldn't be in the title race.
Odd response, how am I jealous when were ahead of you on goal difference .Don't be jealous mate, it's nearly time for the annual dusting of your trophy cabinet.
Not gutted, but I think on similar lines. Is it bad that I’m gutted city lost as I can’t stand the thought of the scum winning the league ? I know it’s early days but I genuinely think I have a problem..
Or it could be a tongue in cheek ironic post?Sorry mate. Let me clarify. Didn't meant to say you're an idiot. The thread is idiotic. Knee jerk. Lacking context and most importantly even a superficial appreciation of the football itself.
What Havak described, in the post you replied to, is pretty much what I saw in 2017-18, when we managed to stay in 2nd nearly all season, despite some far from excellent performances. The logic that we could have been on 13/15 points doesn't really work. Big teams tend to have much of the ball/game against lesser teams, or at least enough chances to win those games. And hence you can always point to moments in those games that could have swung it your way. You could use this logic if we had played spanking football and genuinely dominated in all the key metrics only for the rub of the green not to fall our way. But in truth, we were poor against Wolves in the second half, we were poor against Palace the whole game and again poor against Southampton in the 2nd. I didn't come away from any of those games thinking - that was an excellent performance despite the result.
Not if you're SAFCorrect. If just being 2 points behind City was worth celebrating, then how about 2020 is Liverpool to lose, from Sep! No other team is in any form and even if City picks up, which they will do, winning the League 3 times in a row is impossible. So only a Leicester scenario and a capitulation of Liverpool will see them crying baby again, 3rd time....
And Burnely and Newcastle. At the start of the season we were level on points with both City and Liverpool
So to be sure I understand you correctly, you claim that many people were on Jose’s back at the beginning of his stint here, but noone are on Ole’s back now? Maybe I have a different redcafe.net version to you, because on mine it takes a minute to find fifty posters on Ole’s back. You are just one of them.Nope. People were on Jose's back since the day he was signed. Ole's gotten a pass. Not saying that has been wrong. But to accept poor performances is not ok regardless of the guy.
To be clear, not saying sack the guy. Just saying why glorify nothing things like being'2 points behind city's nonsense. That's ridiculous. Especially at this stage of the season
The OP apparentlyWho the feck thinks we are in the title race? Or ever would be this season
Day 1 of the job. Not this season. Go back to when Ole was made permanent and there's an obvious soft spot for him being a legend. The only critique I recall was his experience at the top level, but as a fit for the club he did seem to get a pass. Think it was LVG pointing out that Ole didn't exactly set up much differently to Jose .So to be sure I understand you correctly, you claim that many people were on Jose’s back at the beginning of his stint here, but noone are on Ole’s back now? I don't understand what you're saying here. Then I go through this thread looking to find someone who glorifies things. Glory, glory, never have fans been ones to glorify? I would expect quite a few glorifying their club on a fan forum, but in this thread? Can’t find it. Maybe we read letters different as well?
Well no. The OP is much more than that. It says we're in the title race. It's a literal context.Someone has pointed out that we are 2 points behind City (a fact), pretty clearly as a response to a whole heap of posters complaining like we are in a crisis (context).
I already referenced another thread so no, you've missed the mark. My perspective is on a cumulative of opinions about Ole's time in charge spanning related threads. I'm sure you follow multiple threads so I don't know why you're hung up on that. And then 90 posts were about all of them are criticical to that post, to United etc. So this is the landscape were ‘Ole gets a free pass’ and people are ‘glorifying things’?
I think you, @esmufc07 and I all want the same thing: a bit of patience in letting the season unfold under Ole's management without overreaction or prematurely axing him. But I'm very very clear in admitting that my patience stems from the love for Ole as a club legend and being so fed up with the last several seasons. So im accepting that we are trying something new, between the stepwise transfer windows and squad clearance to bed in youth. I'm accepting that we're not going to function like a well oiled unit for a while. But it also means I and the rest of us should be critical of poor decisions and form. Because acknowledging deficiency is important to growing. So a WUM thread like this doesn't do any damn good. If anything it just agitates those who want success tomorrow rather than easing them into considering a bit more patience.Either you don’t put much thought into what you claim when writing, or you are just being disingenuine.
Bit of a prat though isn't he?The OP apparently
You would be correct, if us losing was an isolated occurrence, but as we saw last season, after the PSG match, we were dreadful. Even the match against LCFC, required a penalty. What we've learnt after 5 games is that most teams are capable of upsetting the top 6 clubs on any matchday, so hopefully some of us here remember that next time we throw tantrums and call for change every time United don't win a match.
Last season is last season. Different first XI. Probably (hopefully) a very different vibe in the dressing room. We are certainly not a free flowing team so far but I think we will improve. The next couple of games are big for us. We don't often win at West Ham and Arsenal are a direct competitor. 2 wins could be huge for our season. You would be correct, if us losing was an isolated occurrence, but as we saw last season, after the PSG match, we were dreadful. We're not playing champagne football, but getting unlucky, we are struggling to create good chances.
In any case, after the LCFC win, our league position isn't bad, so the people who want to be positive have every right to be positive.
More than that I suspect. City and Liverpool are the only sides capable of consistent victories in this division. My prediction outside of those two is that every other club has a minimum of 7 defeats.More than all the mathematical gymnastics in this thread, it's how City have dropped those points that's interesting. They absolutely battered Spurs and would have won that game 9 times out of 10. Against Norwich, they were creating chances until the last minute.
United, in contrast, don't create half as many as City. There is no comparison I think; United will likely finish 15 points behind City again this season, unfortunately.
Yeah and City have scored 8 more.Anyone noted that Shitty have conceded 2 more goals than United so far this season?
Another thread for that @esmufc07 Elvis?
I get what you're saying, but we also lost games we have shot more than anyone else, almost 20+ times. I think we are entitled to get better points too in those games, it's not always a Leicester type of game. I don't know where we are heading, but I think momentum will be everything, and if Ole can hype our players up, there could be something interesting happening. We should also be super happy that all 3 of our signings are absolutely well integrated and seem to not be flops. At this point, I am just enjoying the 4th place. Yes, the 7 pts gap is a bit big but I think Liverpool will still do a bit of Liverpool and then, we will see what happens.More than all the mathematical gymnastics in this thread, it's how City have dropped those points that's interesting. I admire your optimism and wished I had the same, but here are the issues with the points you have raised:I get what you're saying, but we also lost games we have shot more than anyone else, almost 20+ times. Where I really trust Ole is on the mental strength side, I think he can instill that to players in a way that maybe they never had the chance yet, even with Jose. By using their language, by extrapolating to his own experience. Hopefully that does the trick for this season.
