He is there for as long as he/glazers want him to be. They trust him after he masterminded their takeover of the club (bought on leveraged debt). We will not excel with him at the helm - nothing we can do about it.
We can but it will take a mind shift from majority of the fans. We can do it.

I'm in but if the only plan is a boycott of home games, I just don't see it as realistic, plus we aren't exactly the most militant fanbase on the whole.

The proof is the team we see today & our record in the transfer market. Thats why we have what, 900m spent since 2013 or whatever the figure Nevile said the other night? and a team thats massively unbalanced and sub standard. 900m spent and we have a non existant midfield and the worst strike force in 30 years. Liverpool came from a far weaker position in 2013, spent less and did not just overtake us, but left us miles behind. Miles.

If we had any smarts, we'd bring someone or more than one person in like City did with the barca boys, plan a long term strategy and target the next great manager, like Nagelsmann or whoever the next super manager is. These guys get paid millions a year to know what us fans don't. ...Or we can stick with Woodward and be reactive like the last 6 years. This is Manchester United, there's no excuse for us not having the very best in charge of football matters. So is Ed Woodward one of the best football brains in the world?
But for some fans, we should keep hiring and firing different managers until we hit the jackpot!

Don't necessarily need to boycott games but we could leave earlier, at a certain given time. We could just use the 'unfollow' button on any of the official media that we follow. We can chant against the board at games.

To me, all these things are not difficult to do but the hardest thing is changing the mindset of fans. Maybe it's just a personality trait of mine but if I don't like something, I will do everything in my power to change it and vent whilst making these changes. But what I won't do is, do nothing and moan about it.

I think the Glazers at some point post SAF were still interested in building a good team that at least sticks around the top 4 (of course all this money was wasted thanks to our great CEO who thinks himself the reincarnation of Perez at Madrid), but at one point they decided it's not going to happen and said feck it. They dropped the budget to less than 100m last 2 summer markets and let a rookie manager takes the job permanently because they know he won't press them for transfers and won't complain, while the fans love him. I don't think they're interested in football anymore. They now want to milk as much money as possible from the club before selling eventually in few years time. Woodward is handling their strategy perfectly so he's going to stay as long as they're here.

Only way for Woodward to leave is via new owners. Hopefully the Glazers won't take more than 2-3 years to inevitably get rid of the club before the biggest sum or profit they can. The club is going downhill and they can't keep milking a failing trend for ever when we're finishing consistently 6th and so. They'll sell, but after they milk as much as possible from the club, then if the new owners are interested in football (hopefully), Woodward will get the sack.

Thats another worry, we might be missing out on the next great manager or managers because we're such a mess behind the scenes. Pep & Klopp wouldn't take the job here for those reasons apparently. Would a Nagelsmann take the job right now? Or would our chances of getting him be improved if we had the German Txiki in place? Just as one example.

I understand the bolded part. It could quite well be their strategy and if so, it's going to plan.

It's the second part of your post which I believe as fans we can do something about it. But have our fans got the stomach and change of mindset to do it? Probably not, which is the most disappointing part.

EXACTLY. We just lack any kind of plan. At least if we have a plan, we can execute it. Yes variable's can change but if we stick to a plan, everyone knows the direction and we can then make quicker and more decisive decisions. But to keep ambling along as we are at the moment and keep bemoaning our 'bad luck', we should be progressive and not reactive.

But could you imagine a set up of Edwin and Paul Mitchell and then they bring in a coach like Nagelsmann or Rose?!

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
Tbh I'm just sick of Woodward being the face of our club. For 26 years it was Fergie. Now it's this little red faced accountant.
This. So much this.

Protests and banners during games would draw a lot of attention and publicity.
It MUST happen. It's utter ridiculous that this cretin gets to turn up to OT and sit there unbothered after the utter fecking demolition he's done to our great club.

Fans need to make clear how fecking loathed he is.

Every match - it needs to happen, right now.

AGREED.

We will not be making Europe this year at the current rate but some fans will moan and do nothing.

It'll be ridiculous if Woodward survives this this time but he would. The club doesn't care much about results or winning anymore. As long as Woodward is bringing money to their pocket he'll keep his job. It looks from his last quotes he thinks last summer was great and everything is in a good place, doubt this idea just jumped to his mind on his own. Glazers are happy with him and they don't give a feck about football anymore.
I think he will survive this because the Glazers seem to trust him and he doesn't necessarily need to go he just needs to accept that he is limited on the football side and bring in people who are successful at organizing a club at executive level because that's where the club is handicapped atm. When they are making decisions on whether to sack or appoint the manager who is advising them that has the skillset and vision to determine what we need and recognize it in a football manager or a player. They are all accountants and marketeers so they lack the football intelligence to recognize talent in managers and players, they will look at a CV but a CV can't tell you the intangibles you need to notice in making a football decision. So until the day we have a full time football person in charge of football matters we are going to be victims of chance and most likely we will slip further down the table.

This is basically what I think will happen. But the new owners will be House of Saud or something even worse.

Tuesday morning's papers, sorted then:

- DOF
- Warchest
- Lessons learned
- Due diligence

Just put together a mashup article using all of those buzzwords, that'll be the briefing.

I f&@king hate what this club has become on this guys watch. I can’t even watch us anymore on an afternoon where I’ve nothing else for doing. We are beyond a joke. Our massive wage bill and we could easily finish mid table. Giving contracts to lingard mata Jones etc etc not backing Jose after giving him a huge contract just months before. Fellaini release clause. Not getting Klopp. Moyes summer transfer window. Herrera signing debacle. Letting Ander go then. Hiring all these shite egotistical or not properly qualified managers. Signing Alexis. Shocking stuff. The Glazers haven’t fully backed any manager since Jose’s pogba window either. How have we the midfield we do? Still no right winger. No back up to shaw. Rashford as our main striker. Just an absolute case study in how to totally destroy something successful and beautiful while making loads of cash. Wankers.

Yes, if the new owners were interested in football, but money talks, and if Ed is bringing in that amount of money into the club, then why would they get rid of him. With what the Glazers would sell the club for, the new owners would undoubtedly be money people, and would want to milk the club for every penny. Saying that, they would still want a viable top class club to bring in the revenue, so some money would be pumped into the football side. The Glazers may well sell soon, as the club's standing is suffering.

I wouldn't fire him, that would be another mistake. I would just take him as far as I can from footballing matters. It is about time the structure needs to be built. An actual board consists of former players and experts who can first identify the direction of the club and then appoint the manager accordingly.

If they make any effort of hiring another manager without footballing brains, it will be an even bigger disaster.

I believe the owners have concluded you can’t separate the commercial side from the football side. That in order to maximise the returns from their investment, you need a Woodward with ultimate control over both to keep all things aligned with achieving their commercial goals.

When we make a significant signing, they want a Woodward to think about how he will answer how it fits with the commercial strategy. They don’t want a DoF creating a distraction by being more motivated to improve what happens on the football field. A DoF is likely going to be working in direct conflict with what interests our owners the most, and he would therefore be clashing with Woodward too.

I'm a Glazer.

In my board meetings the first thing I look at is the financial results and trends. All I see is upward growth: in revenue, profits, attendances, social media engagement, share price etc etc. Recently, operating costs and the wage bill has come down. More profits!

As far as I'm concerned, everything is going great. Carry on doing whatever it is you're doing over there Ed! Hey, have a pina colada and a bonus too!

Your problem is you are thinking like a fan who values winning trophies (no matter the cost) and not a businessman who values making the most amount of profit (focuses purely on cost).

How much investment do you think it would take to get us from where we are now and to usurp City and Liverpool? Where does that money come from?

I see things a bit differently actually.

If I put myself in the shoes of one of the Glazers (and if I shared their values and ambitions), I think I would be looking to remove or eliminate Woodward's perceived influence on the business, purely for PR gains and to protect and grow our revenue.

Whilst Woodward played a key part in the takeover and streamlined our commercial activities, I'd rather take more of a low-key approach when it comes to mugging off our customers, I mean 'fans'. So if they continue to remain disgruntled and create negative publicity for us (which could impact on our revenue streams), I have no problems in removing Woodward from his position and allowing him to take the blame. We've 'spent' £900 million after all, it's not our fault Woodward didn't spend it wisely and keeps hiring the wrong managers. We'll give him a nice payout and he can even do some 'consultancy' work for us in the future here and there if we need him anyway.

I'd then simply replace him with another puppet who will be branded as more of a 'football man', but will ultimately do the exact same job as Woodward.

Ultimately, not much will change, but removing Woodward can make us look good and is another PR exercise to appease the growing discontent in our customers.

That makes no sense. First you acknowledge that he's wasted hundreds of millions and then you suggest you'd hire someone just like him. There is actually sound economic argument that hiring capable football people to lead the club forward, will also save money in the long-term.

Think you've misunderstood.

What I mean is that as a Glazer, I would be firmly pushing the idea in the media that Woodward has spent £900 million of 'our' money in a bad way, however, I do not necessarily believe that is true. Remember, unlike City's owners, the £900 million we have invested isn't our own money, it is self-generated income the club has made thanks to our commercial activities which Woodward has been hugely responsible for. We're doing great, Woodward certainly isn't losing us money.

So removing Woodward would simply be a PR exercise to appease the fans and sponsors. Behind the scenes, I would hire someone with the same skill set as Woodward to basically do the same job (making us more money). I would certainly prioritise and value someone who has commercial acumen over football acumen anyway.
