It's like groundhog day. Everyone's bleating about the manager but this mess extends far, far beyond him. Changing him for someone else will achieve the square root of feck all.

I feel for him, he was handed a poisoned chalice inheriting a squad which was already not fit for purpose and then having to deal with it being further weakened and only partially supported with incomings. My hope was that Fred would come in to his own and form that base from which everything could flow but he just hasn't.

I still fully back Ole, as I can see what he's building towards and I don't think a manager change will accomplish anything. The Glazers seem to think every manager they hire can work under the same restrictions as SAF did. Even when they loosen those restrictions, it only lasts for a season or two before the same issues arise again and again. The same will happen under Poch or whoever else comes in next.

The sooner everyone comes to the realisation that we're shit, the better. Forget that we're Man Utd, forget top 4 or even top 6, and just focus on building this squad up from ground zero. Give the manager (whether it's Ole or whoever) time to rebuild, accept that we'll have lows as well as highs and see where we are after 2-3 seasons. Cos this just isn't a simple fix. Ole needed to be backed much, much more extensively and he wasn't. This is the legacy of that decision in the summer.
Nah.

Your opinion would hold value if it looked like we were trying to play a certain way but failing due to the personnel, but that's just the case. It's just a huge void of nothingness.

Agreed, the standards. have been lowered. What can we realistically do in January though that will make much difference?
Buy a midfielder and an attacker who's contract is running out?

I'm no expert but what is the army of staff we employ doing?

It could even be loaning players like Zlatan or Vela.

Are there talented but out of favour players that we could loans from other clubs?

Something needs to be done than nothing.

If there's a fire, we can't stand there and watch. These people (board) are just watching the building burn.

Will probably wait till we get shafted by Liverpool before we sack him I imagine. It’s what we did with Mourinho.

Standards has vary according to how likeable the manager is.

2 years ago people dishing 2nd as failure. Not top 4 with this squad ole will get a lifetime contract.

We sacked lvg for finishing 5th with an fa cup win. Yet we say ole should be given time.

So no. Standards are moving every year.

I genuinely for the life of me, can't understand posts like this. If you don't believe a proper coach can't come in and save us from relegation form, well then you must believe that we have championship standard players all over the pitch, which obviously isn't the case.

Total:

This is Remi Garde, Dave Bassett, Steve Wigley, Chris Hutchings, Billy Davies, Alan Shearer and Slavisa Jokanovic territory now.
He's by far the worst manager in the PL.

We should just get a caretaker in that can at least put up a fight and spend the rest of the season finding the right manager to take the club forward. Get a real long term plan with the RIGHT people to do it with.

Sounds awfully familiar but we just can’t seem to carry out a basic fecking task without fecking it up.

Ed's job is to sack him but also to resign would be decent thing to do. Before all these huge contracts, managers resigned all the time. Now when they can lost millions and in Ole's case dream job, they refuse to do that. Personally if he does that, he would have all my respect and in future i would see him as what he is still; our football legend who tried to do something as a manager and failed. It happens in life. It is not a problem and something for be ashamed. If he will be sacked then i will remember him as a person who was ready to ruin this club because of his selfish ambition.
Ambition is a great thing but when that ambition is damaging many people around you then it is just selfish thing.
You're seeing it just from your side. End of the day it's a job with money involved. If he shows the white flag he wouldn't get a club to manage. It's a career suiside for him. The best possible thing would be to talk to end and find a peaceful way that doesn't look ugly.

Highered if it's jose. Now it's top 10 or sack. There was a time under jose when it's th3 title or sack.
The op I responded to was this:

By finishing 6th, Moyes opened up a can of worms that shifted the mindset of the club from it being unacceptable not winning the title to it being okay finishing 4th.
I've no idea why you've brought Jose into it.

Yeah the Pool game will be his last shot. Unless our form and playing style magically turns around then he will be gone. Which seems fair at this point as the very basics aren't even working.

The perfect manager for those couple of months last season but thats about it.

I agree, although it's not all the managers fault, he should still be able to coach and field a team that can beat the likes of Rochdale etc...

The quality of the manager is the crucial part of the rebuild. Get the wrong manager and the rebuild is botched too, particularly in the absence of a DOF. What has Ole shown, here or elsewhere, that suggests he can rebuild a club the size of United and take it back to the top?

He forgot that there's a manager that win boatloads under the glazer.

Whether or not we can find the next fergie is another debate. But off course a better manager can make us better than our current form under ole.

For what jose is slagged, he does deliver trophies and a 2nd place finish. Which the longer ole goes on the more it looks like Jose's biggest achievement

its looking more than unlikely he's going to turn this around he can bemoan his luck with injuries and a couple of half dodgy calls but when it comes down to it its just not good enough.

We seem to be stuck in a rut and there doesn't seem to be a way out, we continuously repeat the same set play routines over and over, continuously play the same Football against teams who just play the low block.

I said before the Newcastle game if Ole was to go EVERYONE in the backroom staff needs to go, this isn't all on him its the players too of course but theres also the fact our players don't run, can't string a decent couple of forward passes together, can't delivery set plays, can't score to free kicks, don't have any imagination or creativity, constantly getting injured, failing to communicate.. the list is endless.

These players are a bag of shite but they're better than the bag of shite they played yesterday and we never looked like scoring. We have no intensity, our conditioning seems to only allow us to apply pressure in spells rather than throughout and my god can we not talk about set plays.

I'm fairly sure Ole will make it to the Liverpool game we'll get beat and then the noises will get louder. We'll wait for Poch to leave Spurs and hire a man who probably needs to step away for a while. Meanwhile we'll keep hearing briefs about this 'Technical Director' appointment and how they're 'looking for the right person' etc and even if we get one his job won't be anything like it should be, he'll be hamstrung by Woodward so that won't work out anyway, meanwhile United slump to their lowest position in 30 years.

Depends on who you ask. There are "back the manager" cultists, a specific manager cultists, and then there are those of us who apply the same standard to all of our managers. The goal is to play attacking football, and if you can get that right, we'll be willing to back poor results until the players get there. No manager has been able to do this. And that is why I've questioned every manager earlier than a lot of fans. I want to see on the pitch evidence you can coach them and I want to see things resembling the current best sides.

We can rebuild all we want, but the manager shouldn’t be rebuilding. The DOF should.

When the manager fails or needs changing which happens every 3 years on average, where do you go next? we all love and respect ole for his time as a player but a 20% win rate in the premier league is nowhere near good enough.

Yes our squad is weaker than it should be and injuries have been a huge issue, but this united squad should be winning way more of these matches.

should Ole be going now? Probably.

Who could replace him? Allegri? Would he fit the path that Solskjær and Woodward were aiming for?

The next decision is going to be huge.

You see in the future? What are the lottery numbers?
Thats all on you, you don't care about club legends much it seems.
What future? we are now 2 points from relegation ffs! Club legends I love but the club is bigger than them to me, I we will not accept the club I love be in the relegation zone just because a "club legend is the manager". What is so difficult to understand in that?

By finishing 6th, Moyes opened up a can of worms that shifted the mindset of the club from it being unacceptable not winning the title to it being okay finishing 4th.

He completely destroyed a pillar of the club.

This allowed managers such as Van Gaal and Mourinho to say we in transition.

Now Solskjaer has taken things to a new level. Now suddenly we're in a position where finishing 6th would be considered good? This could open another can of worms that is difficult to manage.

As much as I like Ole, he has to moved on (ideally move on himself).

The only way the club can salvage the season is by going in hard in January's transfer window.
That happened earlier: the moment Moyes was appointed.

The appointment announced to the world that we’d be happy with third or fourth. Nobody expected us to finish 7th though.

Do we have to get relegated for him to resign, is this not disgraceful enough being in the relegation zone? He should resign now, because he is in the relegation battle already.

Ask yourself this, which good manager would even be willing to come to this steaming pile of shit? And that's before we even look at the names that are currently in vogue. Each and every one of them have their own issues and carry with them concerns over whether they are a good fit for us.

He forgot that there's a manager that win boatloads under the glazer.

I literally mentioned Fergie in there... If you're going to criticise my post, at least have the decency to read it. We're not going to find another Fergie for a long, long while; if ever. That sort of manager is a one-off and likely will never come again simply because they don't make them like him anymore. We needed to move with the times in footballing terms after he left, and under Ed and the Glazers we've well and truly fecked it up. No manager would thrive in this environment. Not LvG (who took the worst Dutch team in decades to 3rd place at the world cup the summer he joined us); not Jose (need I say more?); and now, unfortunately, not Ole.

Just fecking wake up, the lot of you. I'm not even a Glazers out person, but the fact of the matter is we've regressed as a result of their underspending for the best part of a decade. The seeds weren't sown when Fergie left, but when Ronaldo was sold. We could and should have got Ribery, De Rossi and Sneijder to replace him and build a new formidable team, and I don't need to tell you what we ended up with... The fact we still challenged in the league and in Europe, is a testament to SAF, but it should never have got to that in the first place.

Nope..i believe if we appointed klopp and give him years and 800m right after fergie it'll be us instead of liverpool that won the champions cup.

So no, blaming the board is one thing, but thinking any other manager wont change a thing is something i disagree.

We said the same during Mourinho era too, that they were undermined by him. Maybe they are just terrible at their job?
Maybe. McKenna was a highly regarded youth coach; Carrick a complete novice. I just think it’s harsh to utterly write them off considering the regimes they’ve been working for since they started.

Ole isn’t going to resign, but it would do those two’s careers no harm at all if they moved on to pastures new.

Talk about history repeating itself! We were blessed to have a "once in a lifetime" manager for a generational in Matt Busby.
When he retired we made a pigs ear of replacing him until we got lucky in 1986.
Same thing has happened.

So we get in another caretaker then, as Chelsea usually do, to steady a ship that's heading straight for a giant iceberg if Ole remains at the helm. That'll take us to the summer, when Poch(assuming he's sacked soon) would be a bit more refreshed and ready to go. Amazing that you're telling people to wake up, people that are at least trying to come up with some sort of plan, rather than stick with a manager that's relegated Cardiff and doing the same to us. Yes, it's us that need to wake up.

Have you forgotten his final season in charge where he systematically ate the club alive as he engineered his departure?

The man was a disgrace to the club. Quite how our fans talk of him in a positive light is beyond my understanding.

No I don’t believe ole will remain and unfortunately I see Woodward lasting for a long time.

Ideally the glazers will actually try and get this shit show sorted and push Woodward back to financial and bring in a proper football man.

Our next coach needs to understand performance on the pitch is the primary objective. Signing players and “rebuilding” isn’t an excuse to not perform on the pitch.

He is a finance guy.

He never meddle with footballing side other than choosing the manager.
