The Saudi's are about to go public with Aramco because they know there is no future in Oil, but they would want to buy Manchester United? Makes total sense.
Are you implying that there's no future for us as a club if we got investment like what they have? We are the biggest supported sports team on the planet. If we get Saudi investment we'd be unstoppable. That's what I want. I like it when we make rival fans miserable.

who's this lad?
Not entirely sure. Has over 500k followers and a blue tick (yes I know it's not a confirmation of legitimacy) but apparently doesn't real talk about sports stuff and he has spoken about this. I'm just putting it out there for others who may know more than me.

Any Arabic translators?

Apparently something along the lines of news coming out soon about a club being purchased!
He's saying there's news about Saudi investors buying Manchester United. Sources saying a announcement will be made soon.

Whether it's true or not, no idea but something can be agreed and all things in place for an "official" announcement. Just like transfers are agreed well in advance and just official announcements happen later on.

Hold on, are you suggesting the only reason people would be against Saudi ownership is Islamaphobia?
It's been pretty clear for a while now that that is what he is suggesting. He has a MASSIVE chip on his shoulder. He wouldn't have a problem with people expressing distaste in the idea of Kim Jong-Un buying the club. I'm willing to bet we'd get none of the whataboutism and moral relativism in that case. Thankfully, he doesn't have the money.

What is there otherwise to debate? We're talking about an ownership group that will invest heavily in improving the squad, run the club in a professional manner, put the best football people in place, and put in place a coherent long term plan for sustainable success. Oh and unlike their counterparts down the street they can afford themselves to pay no mind to FFP. If you take away their highly dubious background we would all be in agreement for the most part.
And you know all this how? What if they turn out to be just as incompetent as the Glazers? Why is it a certainty that new owners will be magically brilliant?

This is a big fat lie. Form 144 must be filed with the SEC by an affiliate of the issuer as a notice of the proposed sale of securities.

Precisely, let’s not forget that the oil funded project on the other side of the town’s success was also lucky to some degrees, even with the massive outlay and commitment, with Aguero’s purchase turning out to be the buy of the decade and Utd shooting ourselves in the foot not strengthening adequately in the late 00s/early 10s. Not hard to imagine an alternative universe wherein City didn’t get that first PL title, not having the sporting success to attract the very best (both coaches/players) subsequently and found themselves still battling for top 4 churning in and out players annually even now. Or it could even be worse, think Malaga, think Anzhi, think Monaco.

On the one hand, I don’t want them owning my club. On the other, would it be such a bad thing if they brought Oliver Holt for a tour around the embassy?

It would definitely be a branding exercise for them

Football isn't exactly a license to print money, given the size of the outlay
Make money?

People need to wake up and smell the coffee. 4 bn is chump change for saudi arabia. And we're not talking about 4bn. 4bn to buy united and you can actually made some profit, or at worse get your money back. It's an asset.

4bn is something they threw around for marketing. You'd think they want to buy united for 100m profits?

Forget about self sustaining, it they bought us they're gonna pimp us hard and posh to be the best in the business. But let's not fool ourselves that it's via the money we generated. You want the devil you're gonna have to suck their cock off, no more pretending not bending your arse for them.

Yeah if They buy the club, it's most likely to show the world how 'open' They are right now. A huge football club is a marketing dream for them and if They own it there's a big chance that They'll manage the club in the similar way as Sheikh did to City. If They want the club to be a mascot of the 'modern' Saudi, They surely don't want to be seen as owners of a failing football club.

Hard to accept but that's the power of money. PSG and City taught us all.

Is it a coincidence that Saudi Aramco is filing an IPO at the same time?
When combined with this news:

It's certainly interesting. £60bn IPO, setting up a sovereign wealth fund looking to invest in sports amongst other things, and the links to United. Makes sense but that doesn't necessarily make it true.

This thing will happen without warning, like a North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile test. And like one of those, there will be feck all anyone can do about it.

I terms of turning the club around and getting back to where we belong it's probably the the best thing that can happen to us whether or not people believe in the morals of the potential owners.

We aren't short on cash. Our problems lie elsewhere.

We might throw 1 billion pounds and still suck those assets aren't managed properly.

That has more to do with how closed this country is than anything else. I guess we will know soon enough.
Surely something would've leaked from the States or even UK, though? A deal like this will take time, not unravel out of the blue.

I'm not talking about cash. I'm talking about the complete setup of the club, top to bottom. If the Saudi's come then they won't settle for some of the mediocre staff we currently have at the club.

I agree with this but you could also see why the time is right for the Glazers. There is a need for investments in infrastructure and in the squad and that won´t be done for over 10 years or more. They would need to find a way to fund that.

This rumor has been on going for over a year so it wouldn´t be like it was done over night. Plus the Saudis might actually have a say in what is said and when, not sure I would want to leak info that the Saudis wouldn´t want to leak.
But who knows? But this rumor has been going on for a long time now and there is something in it that is certain.
