I can't believe the negativity around him to be honest. Look at the absoute shit we are in right now.

We have a potentially very exciting signing on the cards and people are concerned he might not be all that.

How about we sign him and see? If he adapts then we've got something we are desperate for in the team.

Would you really prefer to see Jesse or Juan or Andreas play there instead of this guy having a chance this season?
Welcome to the CAF, not signed yet and already written off......

So he works hard defensively, scores goals and is a decent passer. Sounds like a perfect fit to the way we play. He's everything Ole wishes Lingard was.

That's what happens when you're frustrated. He clearly feels/knows he's a better level than his team mates. If you give them a pass and they run off in the wrong direction or miscontrol it, no wonder you end up sulking or getting fed up.

Plenty of other good players are sulkers too but they usually get even more determined, Fernandes seems this type. I like he's got that in him.
Probably right, was just wondering how it's going to sit with some of our players that seems a little fragile.....!!!!

I watched the game last night and concentrated on just him and i thought he was just 'ok'. The bits i liked was some of his passing range, driving forward with the ball at his feet and looking to pass forwards which sounds stupid bit no one seems to attempt out of who we've currently got bar Pogba. He also seemed quite animated at times trying to prompt others but you'd probably expect that as a given as a captain in a derby.

The bit i didn't like was how easily he was bypassed and his lack of urgency off the ball. He seems a bit lightweight but I know we wouldn't be buying him as a defensive midfielder so that's largely irrelevant.

He occupied an area a lot more advanced than i expected and would definitely be an improvement on Lingard/Pereira/Mata in the 10 but i'd rather Ole waited if it's not someone he really wants.

He's obviously not worth a straight 80 million euros. Be crazy if Sporting cost him a move once again because they're being wildly unrealistic. I'm sure we'll meet in the middle somewhere and get it done, but Sporting and Woody are a nightmare matchup.

Given how much money we have and the poor situation we're in, I don't see how we don't find ourselves in this situation in virtually all our dealings. Especially the big name ones.

Mata runs a lot, these days at least. He’s just slow.

He has poor ball retention, low pass completion and highish dispossessions + bad touches. He isn’t technically gifted, he’s an end product player and in the absence of that product you have a low bottom level.
He's a player that takes risks that's why you see those stats and why you should never look at them without the context.

Perhaps he wouldn't fit City with their zero risk style and positional play but he'd be great for a team like Liverpool.

I don't know what people want Woodward to do here. Everyone agrees he's not an €80M player, yet expect us to get it done in a flash, despite it being proven Sporting are stubborn as feck and possibly costing him a move yet again.

Woodward is doing the right thing in not being held over a barrel for a player that wants to move and a club that needs the money.

I have been saying to pay what it takes, but not sure he is worth that much. The club might be needing to make a stand with regards to fees and make it a warning to other clubs who want to rinse us. Problem is we are desperate for midfielders.

We're in a terrible position. Clubs know we've got money, also know we're beyond desperate for quality players. It's in a way lose lose. We over pay thus continuing the pattern, or we don't sign anyone and struggle on the pitch.

In m= opinion we need to chill till summer, perhaps get Lemar from athletico on loan for the rest of the season to increase the option and then decide in the summer.
Is important we begin making the right decision about transfers.
Agree with this. Imo it's better to have is in the stomach than overpay for a player if we're not convinced.

Has Lemar been great for Atletico though?

Sporting are more desperate for money. We rightly move on if Sporting don’t budge on the fee.

No he hasn't overall. You can look to blame the way Atletico play, but plenty of other attackers have looked much better in that system than he has. I'd not be rushing to sign him, certainly not near the top of the list.

No hes been utter crap, we should press Sporting I think they will do a deal below 80m euros, this is just posturing. Also what we have offered I think is a little below his value given the bonuses include Balon Dor and winning the UCL

They will meet somewhere in the middle

No way in hell should the club pay what €70/80 million for him. People will obviously have a meltdown if it doesn't happen, but I would really just wait till the summer.

I wouldn’t want to pay more than 50 for him, even that feels generous but I saw a post that Sporting if the deal was 70 mil or something only get 36mil from that as they are due Sampdoria a percentage, Agents and other stuff.
So can understand why they would try their luck and are pawning him out all over the place just trying to see if they can get anyone to buy at buy out.

Spurs summer fee was 65 million, 45 million with 20 million in add on's. BBC conviently forgot to mention the Spurs add on's. 80 million euro is roughly 68 million pounds. This is probably a matter of saving face at both sides by negotiating what the add on's are.

Hope it gets over the line.

80 million euros ? yeah, if that's is what they expect from us and they wont budge, then I would walk away.

Granted he's a Sporting player and they're in financial troubles of late but they're taking the p*ss here.

And Manchester United wants to drag this out in the longest to get as much media traction as possible. Good for the sponsorship numbers...

If they signed him early in the window (or before, to have him ready when needed), they would get demands for more players later on... This way, they can avoid that.

Typical United brief to put pressure on Sporting.

If they won’t budge then it’s goodbye. They wont get another chance like this again and Bruno will be pissed off.

I still think this is just manipulation from bothsides.

Yesterday: Sporting will not accept 50mil!
Today: United will not pay 80mil!

I think they have settled at 65 million euros and both Sporting and Woodward look good in the press. Sporting getting the good deal and being tough and Woody being a good negotiatior getting the price down.

The drama is getting quite boring though. Patience muppets, patience!

Pay 150 Million for Grealish and Maddison in the summer and the team will be transformed massively. That's Pogba money if as expected he moves in the summer. No need to take risks if there are doubts about the player for what remains of the season. That still gives the club money to sort out other positions. The club needs to focus on purchasing the best in the market for each position and then look at the academy and potential purchases for the squad.

We should definitely abandon the deal at that price. Bonkers to pay that much and I'm sure we won't.
