I must say, I'm not as enthusiastic about Conor's return as i thought I may be. Must be the opposition.

I concur - Cerrone is daft to look for shootout when we know McGregor is prone to gassing. He can strike with him at points of the fight but not when he's fresh.
That's the key question is what Conor is entering the fight.
He's no doubt proved himself as one of the best but he was finely tuned at his peak in fight after fight rising to the top. Now at 31 after having a extremely lucrative boxing match and a naive unprepared fight with Khabib in 3 years I doubt he can come back well enough or hard enough and step up a weight even.
It's a very good test to see if he has what it takes to resume his career. I would have a few more before any rematch.
Or is it because you feel abit dirty about him: personal sub conscious issues due to unresolved allegations against him?
I think he is abit like current Mourinho: currently trading on prior glories despite now operating at a level below.
Am not sure what we will learn about his condition and capability tonight: if he wins easy, it’s because he should do.
In defence of Cerrone's "I'm going to go toe-to-toe with him" approach, it's not like winning the fight really means that much for him in the grand scheme of things. It isn't a title fight or a fight to really put him back in contention, where winning at all costs becomes more of a focus. The only real justification for the fight aside from easing McGregor back in is that it might be a fan-friendly affair. Trying to put on a show for the audience would be more in line with what the fight actually is. He got it exactly because he's the type of guy to place value in taking that approach and trading in a "real fight" (or perhaps just real stupid) sort of way. Maybe he just has a realistic grasp of his role in this scenario.

You're bang on, but I hate that a fighter sells himself short like that and becomes a gatekeeping jester. It also leads you to wonder what a 'smart' Cerrone could've done in the UFC, but we'll never know.
What time will Connor and Cowboy be walking out at? In work at 2pm tomorrow so might consider squeezing it in tonight so I can watch the Liverpool game after work tomorrow night.
Can anyone confirm, tonight is only PPV? I've got access to a BT subscription but the fight isn't on there, only on BT PPV?

That's part of it. Another part of it is he was given an "easy" fight to rehabilitate himself because the UFC knows they can't allow their cash cow to lose two in a row, as it would permanently damage their ability to leverage his brand for future PPV events. Conor is easily the biggest draw in the UFC, and they are protecting him.

They outlined their PPV schedule recently. Tonight’s card is PPV, whist Khabib/Ferguson, Jones/Reyes and Joanna/Zhang are on regular BT Sport listings. Just a cash grab, due to McGregor resurfacing. Grab a nice River and enjoy, don’t feed into their extortion.
But even he needs tune up fights? I really dont understand this, so Conor wins tonight but loses v Khabib. How does a win over Cowboy protect him from the repercussions from that loss?
Not even Khabib or Tony faces elite fight after fight. Hell Cowboy fought Tony not that long ago

These are all different circumstances. Khabib and Tony are top fighters who draw numbers but nothing in the realm of what Conor draws. He will therefore obviously get treated differently.

The card is pretty shite otherwise, which sucks. I usually don't mind to watch the two fights before the fight I wanna watch but really not interested in any of them tonight. Think I'll get up at 6:15 and hope they haven't started yet.

For some weird reason, i am not allowed to add people to the convo, so have to start one with each of you, and of course 1,5 minutes between each. 
Some fun matchups this evening, albeit not the strongest in terms of 'star power', outside of the main event. In particular, Sodiq Yussuf/Andre Fili could be a very enjoyable little fight. Drew Dober/Nasrat Haqparast is interesting, too. Pretty good matchmaking there, with Haqparast getting a good opponent at the right time.
Pettis/Ferreira and Oleinik/Greene worth watching, too. Would be worth watching Barber/Modaferri, simply in the hope of an upset. UFC high on Barber, giving her that featured bout spot on the Prelims. Would be hilarious if Roxy stifled her and ended that hype.

Is Cerrone a UFC hall of famer??? Just because he has the most wins and or fights in UFC doesn't matter much because there are titles to be won and multiple weight classes to be won.

Whether he's won titles or not, his consistency in the number of fights he accepts as well as his overall wins DO count for something.
