I'm hoping we sign him in the summer. Fits all the categories that Ole wants, young and English. He has that cocky swagger as well which we miss at the moment

Assuming the Fernandes deal goes ahead, I wonder if will that rule out us going for Grealish in the summer?
Some people have said that Fernandes can play as an 8, if we used Grealish as a 10. I’m not so sure.
Was thinking the same unless Fernandes is used as a MF.

What do you think?
Personal terms may not have been agreed
Medical may have been failed
Player may not have wanted to join
Agents fees may have been a problem

There's a whole host of reasons why the deal may have not gone through

The forum is meant to be a community is it not? Not sure why the need for the snideness?

You think he will be that good?
In terms of gettable targets, that are of the requisite quality, hard working, a leader on the pitch, young and are PL proven... I don't think there are many, if any, better options out there

I thought he was a cockney, didn't know he's actually from Birmingham.

I actually wouldn't feel that bad with Pogba going and us replacing him with Grealish. Feel like he'd work well with Bruno too

Shouldn’t, we need to take a mantle out of city’s book. Who would have thought De Bruyne and David Silva would play in the same midfield.
Without sounding like a dick, would be good if Villa were relegated and we could snap him up. But then Liverpool, City, Spurs and Chelsea will all be looking for an attacking midfielder in the summer.

I like the look of him, but haven't seen nearly enough.

Glad to see the turn around in opinion.

With all due respect though, if he does leave he'll have far bigger fish to fry than United which is sad to say. Would not have been true 10 years ago.

I think we should be prioritizing him over Sancho. He will be cheaper as well than the £100m+ we'll be paying Sancho.

He seems to be best on the left of a front 3 but unlikely to displace Sterling or Rashford there. So I’d have him as most advanced of a midfield 3. Henderson and one other behind him.
I would like to see this, but Southgate has said, due to him playing as a winger, he'll be competing with the wingers in the squad, i.e. Rashford, Sterling, Sancho, Odoi.

However, as you said, for England, who you'd expect to the dominate against most teams, playing him in that most advanced role in a three would be more ideal.

May not work, but it be silly of Southgate not to try it.

If we get CL I think we'd tempt him... Especially as we can offer him a huge part in our side. (which wouldn't be the same at Liverpool or City)... I think he relishes being the main man.

Plus you know... Lots of money.

The thing I don't get with Southgate's POV there is we've seen before England with ridiculous amounts of pace in final third but if opposition like Croatia low block and sit deep then it all too easily gets nulified. Add in England not really having dynamic passers of the ball centrally so likes of Sterling can't get the ball quickly and be 1 v 1 against opposition full back.

Spain at their peak didn't just pack their front line full of roadrunners, they just put loads of central midfielders off Torres/Villa. You need a balance so a Grealish in the front 3 who can drop off and into central midfield would cause opposition arguably more difficulties than going for two conventional quick wide players (you can obviously still have Sterling one side or even play him as a false 9 given the injuries).

Anyway the two March friendlies are good time to see if it can work. Grealish imo walks into the England 11 now, he'll be that player who comes out of the shadows and into the England team for a major tournament like Dele Alli, Kane and Harry Maguire have done for last two tournaments.

My dream summer signing! Would prefer him to Maddison at this point, both very good players but Grealish just seems to have something extra about him, a flair to his game I dunno.

Disagree. For young English players like Grealish, who have grown up watching United dominate over the years, I feel he dreams of playing for us.

I also think no other teams in the top 6, bar maybe Arsenal, need Grealish.

Guess we'll see. Don't think Villa will keep him another season, though.

Preparing a bid as we speak.
If there was 0.1% of him leaving in this window, it's at 0%. Boyhood villa fan isn't going to leave and miss out on leading his club out at major domestic final.

I am however not naive enough to think he won't go in the summer. With his performances every week he's outgrowing us like Benteke did five years ago so whoever's interested should wait until the summer and see the state of play there.

I'd rather he'd go abroad as his style would obviously suit La Liga/ Serie A but not sure he's the type who'd do that like say Sancho. I imagine some decent european clubs must be tracking him at least.

The key word there was will. As in, in the future. If he ends up leaving. Not sure what facing relegation has to do with anything tbh.

He will be leaving. Don't kid yourself. Why would he stay at Villa?

And what bigger fish to fry will he have? Curious to know.

Can see Man. City buying him if a few of their key players actually leave because of the ban.

Mind you as you did with Maguire you can outbid them as City won't just up their bid for every player.
