Grealish has the cockiness, flair and leadership needed to play for United. He reminds a bit of Rooney in that way, also a bit of Pogba in that he always shows for the ball and takes it. Maddison is good but more of a system player.

Maddison should be getting Leics through tonight. He's had enough ball and opportunities.

Maybe he works TOO hard. Sometimes less is more in that role.

Yes. I get that kind of swagger from him too. Almost Cantonaesque! Not that he would be the next Cantona.

But for all we know, they could both end up as the next Kieron Dyer.

Grealish is twice the player Maddison is, been saying this for months and nothing is changing my mind

He's going to the very very top Grealish and we should be making him first priority this summer

Amen to that.. Said he in the Maddison thread time ago. He's the pretender.. Grealish is actually talented.

Both fantastic but based on this season I’d have to say Grealish because he’s always in the game. Maddison was heavily involved tonight but there’s games he disappears. That never happens with Grealish, he’s everywhere, he has that Rooney street player vibe about him too. I also enjoy his low socks and leg muscle definition.

You need to define what you consider "world class" otherwise you can wriggle out if it!
World class from let's say De bruyne, to Silva, and finally to Iniesta level. Not the likes of Dele Alli level.

Kudos for the honesty. Not many would admit to that, but we all think it.

Grealish for me. He's quality... And doesn't shy away when the going gets tough.

Would be my number one priority signing in the summer.
Is that with the realism of who you think we can acquire applied, or overall, with no restrictions (within reason) in place?

Bruno takes Madison spot, no? Grealish seems a better fit for our current situation, but for the money it would take we surely could take a look at Saul or Partey.

Maddison......... Bruno

..................DM...............

Or

Grealish............ Bruno

..................DM...............

Haven't watched the two of them enough but which midfield is better and more balanced?

Maddison has more quality for me. Grealish has more of that other stuff. If the idea was to replace Pogba, my choice would largely depend on who else was in the midfield with them.

Grealish but I don't see us signing either if Bruno comes in

Other areas have a higher priority

I wasn't sold on Grealish but he's getting better and better each week and really growing this season.

Maddison just seems like a prick. He's talented but he believes his own hype you can tell.

Can they both play in the same team?
Grealish plays in the position where Fred (not doing what he does but that would be his best position in my opinion) does in our team if he comes long term - kind of doing the thing that Mctomminay does where he goes on a run with the ball and goes past 2 or 3 players.

Mctomminay does it with strength and power, Grealish can dribble him self out of tight positions, make short passes & find himself out off the press before finding Rashford in acres of space.

I don't see the whole Grealish is a creative passer thing - I see his ability to break a team down in hard situations with his technical abilities before finding a player in a better area to make a pass to.

Maddison is different and more a traditional CAM who will play through balls, play wider balls and take shots from central areas.

I think they could play together but they need a proper hardworking CM or CDM for that to work & Grealish will need to learn how to play LCM before that can happen either.

I'd like to see how Maddison is without Vardy before going for him to be honest - Vardy makes exceptional runs.

For who? For a side like you? Grealish would be better suited as he's better on the ball and running with it and you are void of players in the midfield who will run with the ball and attack the space (Hi Boss). Maddison is someone that needs players around him that are good for him to have the time and space a bit more like Mata. He'd be quality sometimes but he'd have quite a few naff performances also. Right now you need Grealish more and I think he could go to more clubs and look just as good. With Maddison I think he needs specific sides to look as good as he is in this Leicester side.
Agree with every word here, especially the Maddison/Mata style comparison

I've said it before in a different thread, but I think Gealish could have a Cantona-esque impact on the team if he signed in the summer. He just has the strength and personality to lift a whole team and game in a way very very few players can.

I'm firmly in the Grealish camp too. As footballers they're quite evenly matched, but Jack has more about him as a leader and character. Also has the better all round game. Now that we're signing Bruno, Grealish becomes the much better fit for our team, especially if Pogba goes. If Villa get relegated and we don't sign Grealish, it would be criminally negligent incompetence. And even if they don't, we're the natural step up he needs. Leicester will burst out balls just for asking about Maddison.

I'd go as far as sticking my neck out to say if we get a proper DM next season (Soumare, Partey, etc), and Grealish to go with Bruno, we could challenge for the league. Our midfield (or lack of) really is where our main problems lie.

I would sign both, one is a passer(Maddison) the other is a driver(Grealish). Great complement

I like Maddison but agree with you that Grealish got that something in him that you want him to be in your team.

Plus if things got a bit physical he will be up for it as well. We need that in our team now.

Are we really going to sign either given we've added Fernandes?

Both have different qualities, Maddison is the super creator but Grealish can actually shoot and score goals. Of the two, I think Grealish is better.

Having said that, we don't need either. We've just signed (or about to sign) a new #10 in Bruno. It's about time we utilize the players in their best position than pigeon hole them in a position which they aren't suited to. All three of Bruno, Grealish, Maddison are at their best as a 10, and considering we have a new one. It would be better, if in the summer we can buy actual CMs and not AMs who 'can also play as CM'.

Are we really going to sign either given we've added Fernandes?
I hope not, either of them would cost a substantial sum and we can't afford to blow a significant chunk of our budget on PL buys like we did last summer. We have to be smart and invest in players who are specialists in their position.

I'd rather we use the money to buy Sancho and DM (if Pogba leaves).

I suppose. To be honest both these players look more interesting to me than Fernandes, but hopefully we've made the right call.

Fernandes would be 3rd for me. Maddison 2nd, Grealish 1st. If signing Fernandes means we're likely to pass up on them (especially Grealish), then I think that'd be a poor call. Bruno, for me, is another Kagawa/Mata/Mkhi. Will have a good moments here and there, but his subpar general play will be an issue.

Maddison for me. Proven playmaker for a top team at such a young age. Although I'd take Fernandes over these two. He has more X factor which is needed for a top player.

That's how I feel as well. That these two especially Grealish look technically superior (shooting aside) whereas Bruno looks a bit basic in this regard.

If we do end up with Bruno, and decide not to pursue either Maddison or Grealish as a result of his signing, I guess we just have to hope that we're wrong in our perceptions of him as a player.

As for the question in the title, I've always been 50/50 on Maddison and Grealish - even when people were criticising Grealish due to playing a lower division - but I'm of the opinion that Grealish is better now. His performances this season - even outside his stats - have been so impressive. I get vibes of Isco from his last season at Malaga where you just know he's ready to play at the highest level.
