Yeah, there's a post to the in that other thread about CL and EL being suspended with a link to the rules

I’m the ignorant one? There is literally a few thousand people that have contracted the virus in world with billions of people. Too many people like yourself just read the news and get in a panic. You cannot stop a virus spreading. All tourist sites are closed yet all bars and restaurants are still open, so what happens? All the tourist congregate in the same place anyway. The logic is plain stupid.
You are woefully misinformed. Go and do some reading

Voiding the season would still open up to lawsuits, the teams doing well wouldnt like it.
I'm no lawyer but in any contract or whatever type of agreement there's always a natural disaster clause I think?

It seems to be spreading at a higher rate amongst sport than other industries. Is this because the spotlight is on them/they're able to get more testing or because the high level of travel involved?

There will be rules in place covering what happens if seasons can't be completed. I assume all teams automatically agree to them when they join the league. Imagine the legal & insurance trouble if £100m players end up dying from a virus they caught because the PL insisted they play on through a global pandemic.

We need Chelsea to lose and us and Man City to win at the weekend, then they bin it right after. Us getting into the CL and 'pool not getting to finish their first premier league win would be epic, especially if their form dips over the summer so can't compete so well again for another 30 years.

So you think that all the other places in the table are decided after this weekends games except they won't give Liverpool the title? It's either whole season is cancelled or a break for some time.

I couldn't care less if they cancelled the league and declared it null and void meaning another season in EL.

It would be worth it so Liverpool don't win the league please let it happen it would be the funniest thing ever.

Their victim mentality would reach new levels make it happen I think we should start a petition you know in the interests of public safety and all that the season must be cancelled!
If we end up in the EL again how will we get decent players to help us progress i.e Sancho Partey and any other great player maybe it wouldnt be AS bad in that we didnt technically fail to qualify but it wouldnt help us at all.

Sky just said there is about 3000 confirmed cases in Spain now, second highest in Europe. Rumors even to shut down the capital.
How silly it was to play last night's game with all those traveling fans.

Coronavirus in US so far this year - confirmed cases: 987 deaths: 29

Source - CDC

I would like to know why there is such a moral panic developing with regards to this coronavirus. The lowest number of deaths from "the flu" in the US was around 12,000. This is in 1 country. The current WORLDWIDE death toll from this "special flu" is around 4,600. Why am I supposed to be scared? I need a reason to be scared because simply told "you should be scared" isn't enough. Why are sporting competitions being cancelled? I don't watch the news. The only way I even heard about this coronavirus was on this forum a couple weeks ago. Now I'm reading that football might all be cancelled because there's an outbreak of the flu. It's ridiculous. Don't reply with "shut up, just be scared like everyone else". Try and explain to me WHY I should be scared!

We will get CL anyway because people are saying if Europa is cancelled we will get it so that means CL

My understanding is, it generally takes much longer time for coronavirus to recover fully, and without proper medical care/hospitaliztion, the fatality rate could be much higher. Also, the fatality rate for older people, and for people with long term illness, will be considerably higher too.

With flu, at least you can easily get simple medication everywhere, and get healed and recover pretty quick.

Because the speed with which this virus spreads means hospitals are going to be completely overwhelmed very quickly. Right now estimates are as high as 70% of the world becoming infected. The US is predicting up to 140 million infected. There's an article on the guardian today that says 1.6million peoole are soon gonna get hit by the virus in NSW. 80000 hospitalised simultaneously, which could lead to 8k deaths because there is nowhere in the world with the medical facilities to treat so many patients.

Right now the intention is to delay the spreading as much as possible. Portion out the infections to alleviate strain on the healthcare system as much as possible and save untold numbers of lives by doing so.

Cancelling major events is absolutely the right thing to do.

You could have taken the time to inform yourself instead of being part of the problem. Admirable that you're trying to understand the virus now but it's a bit too late, mate...

Its still very early in these diseases lifespan so comparing it flu won't help you.

The fact that countries are shutting down (look at what the countries who previously dealt with sars have done) should make you think twice.

Liverpool might, just might, have enough time to wrap the league up behind closed doors but it’ll still count for shit. There a lot a stake still for all other clubs and unless the season is played to completion, it’s void. It’s a critical time for society with a lot at stake and we can’t just sit back and let Liverpool win the league.

Lawsuits for what? Enforcing the rules the league sets? I'm sure every club has to agree to the rules to be able to take part in the competition in the first place.
The league doesnt have a rule to terminate the league without suspending it first.

Nice graph.

The issue is to do with the fact that this is brand new. It's not just another type of flu so there is no existing immunity in the population from previous similar strains.

This means that more people will get infected than a standard flu and as a consequence a lot more people will need hospital treatment than a normal flu.

If the pace of exposure isn't slowed down hospitals will run out of beds and supplies for the severe cases and many people will die needlessly as they can't be treated.
