We were too late to react in Norway, the decision to essentially go on lockdown is a big one as the knock on effects are extremely difficult to predict (apart from being fecking expensive). Economical powers doesn't really matter when there's a shortage of equipment because everyone is after the same thing..
The bold part is very true. You would need old school engineers that could assemble artificial respiration machine from scratch, but nowadays engineers are trained to assemble stuff at higher level.

I am extremely curious to know what is happening in Germany and the US. In Germany, they have around as many infected as France, but somehow only 10% of deaths. And they also have only 2 people in critical conditions (France has 400). Are Germans lying, or France has many more infected than they think they have?

The number of deaths in the US is also incredibly low, only 69 so far (half of that of France's). While the number of infected people in the US is half of that of France, US is supposed to have the most extreme case of underestimating the number of infected considering the lack of testing. On the other hand, there are only 10 people in critical conditions.

Are we talking already for many strains, some of which are almost entirely non-lethal? That just cannot be, France and Germany are just so near each other.

The only logical explanation is that Helles beer is not only the best beer, but it also protects against Covid19.
I can't answer your question but french stats include both people that occupy reanimation and ICU beds. I don't know if it's the case for everyone.

My girlfriend thinks she might have it.

Of course utterly no way of doing absolutely anything about it thanks to the fecking dog shit government advice.
Stay at home if you think you might have it and get friends/relatives to shop for you. Seems pretty clear advice to me.

Rang up to cancel a job centre appointment. Got a very bored man who sounded like every phone call he's had since his shift started has been 'I'm ill, mate'.

Made me an appointment for 2 weeks time. I didn't quite manage not to laugh.

Under soil heating.
Why and how ?
Please elaborate.
It was a joke of course but he is stuck there. He goes on an annual fishing trip, flew out 2 weeks ago, was due to come back today but they cancelled the flight. Can't come back until at least the 24th. I was joking about bankruptcy because it's bloody expensive there.

Save the optimism for later this week. Strict Wuhan style lockdowns clearly work, but we will not know until Friday if the kind of lockdown that will be accepted by a Western audience works - please stay indoors but we won't force you to. A spike in Italian cases this weekend was expected and predicted by authorities, due to people's behaviour last weekend, but now we have to hope cases start to fall. If they don't then i don't know how we can slow it down.
Wuhan's numbers started to come down after 11 days of lock-down. Expecting 11-15 days for Italy. So yeah, agree with your timeline.

Not everyone will have people to shop for them, and the food delivery for Asdas and Waitrose for example is booked up till April.

My Uncle’s stuck over in Norway. He’ll be bankrupt within a week.
Why and how ?
Please elaborate.
I'm also curious. How can become stuck in a country bankrupt you? It happened to me a few times and other than the stress and a few bucks lost, I never got into a tough situation. And bare in mind that I'm portuguese, which means my monthly wage is the equivalent of 5 days wage in a nordic country.

These figures were collected in 2010 i.e after 13 years of Labour rule. I don't know what the numbers are now, but let's not pretend things would be all rosy had Corbyn won the election. This issue is beyond politics.
This is only for England but you can check out the numbers here: https://www.england.nhs.uk/statisti...and-urgent-operations-cancelled-2019-20-data/

Basically 4,100 beds, with just above 3000 occupied at any one time. Not commenting on the politics, just the situation.

No, I didn't say that at all. I'm asking if anyone thinks that the world is going to demand an improvement in standards after where and how yet another virus or illness has started to cause a global pandemic.
Ah, ok. Sadly seems like it is wishful thinking, given it will be impossible to police and human nature is what it is.

Huh? She should self isolate for a week. That is the advice.
If you have either of two symptoms, sure, but when your symptoms aren't quite right and everyone is paranoid as feck so microanalysing every cough and sniffle it's a bit harder.

The thermometer is your god now. Once reading over 37.8 and you self isolate.

So it is quite a significant rise in ICU beds then under the current government. Not interested in the politics of this but it's getting tiresome when half the posts in this thread are complaining about it.

25 new cases in Poland today. Going to hit 100 per day soon. All but one are in good condition, the one that isn’t is stable as well. We’ve had 3 people die since the outbreak. Our government reacted quite quickly and people are playing by the rules so I am hoping is stabilizes. Had to drive to work to configure my VPN today, the city looks like a ghost town. Some are going over the top though wishing death on anyone who dares to leave home to walk the dog or have a jog in the forest.
What do you think will happen with transport from Poland? We do a lot of import from Poland, so this could feck me up if they stop trucks driving from Poland.

Yeah I know, unfortunately we tried to buy one the other week and everywhere had sold out.

We're both sensible sorts so of course we'll self isolate. Just a bit dispiriting to have to make that decision yourself without any medical advice.

I work in a private independent school and we've just been told we won't get paid if/when a quarantine happens.

I'm fuming and honestly don't know what I'm going to. I cant afford to pay my bills on SSP.

Anyone else having similar issues?

I had the same except there were still ones designed for ovulation testing. Fortunately they can be used orally. Haven't quite figured out how to check if I'm ovulating though.

Presumably if you have had it and recovered a test shows that you are safe? Should people be tested for this so they can then move around freely?
Think there was shared a tweet, or reddit post, here yesterday, that said that people who had had it, got it for the second time.

I'd say everyone should be self-isolating as much as possible anyway, regardless of whether they feel sick or perfectly healthy. So there's not really any decision to make.

Plenty of people have described having mild symptoms, to the point that they normally would've gone to work, tested positive for covid-19.
And many people without symptoms have. I know. We're not told to self-isolate without a temp or a persistent new cough, though.

Czech Republic put into quarantine from midnight last night for one week. Only one family member can leave the house and go to doctor/pharmacy/supermarket. People can still go to work but must go straight home. Everything closed here. Schools/restaurants/shops/pubs. Local government reacted very quickly we have around 300 cases here thus far. All borders are closed, no one can come in or out.

Sounds illegal to me in the UK, if you're on a permanent contract. Are you a member of a union?

Social distancing, sure. I've been WFH as much as possible anyway, and have avoided meeting friends out, but we're talking about not leaving the house (well room, technically) for a week to fourteen days. I'd rather not to do that unless I have to.

Don't know how accurate it is, but I did see yesterday someone saying that Germany are only counting deaths solely caused by the virus. That is, if there are underlying health problems that are exacerbated by the virus that lead to death, they are not counted.

I can't say if this is true or not, but it would be an explanation.

It looks like its proportional to population growth (a matter of internal nhs policy maybe?) - ie 6.6 beds per 100k population. Whatever the reason it's clearly insufficient to address this impending crisis.

No, we don't have to necessarily follow traditional school rules and regulations because we're independent.

They have to pay us SSP but they're not willing to pay us our salaries if an enforced quarantine comes into place. I've requested the option to come into work if we're not displaying symptoms but don't think we're going to offered an alternative so we will get paid. Have to say this is making me more anxious than the virus. I simply wont be able to live.

Irish folks, we have around 45mins before the army will all be out in the street enforcing lockdown, right?

Feckin despicable that we're having to waste time debunking these stories, not to mention the stress it causes folks. My dad got this one from a work colleague this morning and took it as fact.

Debunked: No, four young people are not in a serious condition in CUH after taking non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs https://jrnl.ie/5047311

These countries have the specific infrastructure and have learnt from experience how to deal better with these situations though... and still China still completely fecked it up for everyone through a self-paranoid cover up. As the video below explains, neither the UK nor the US have the mothballed systems to be reactivated currently. I only hope that changes going forward.
