Yeh it's really nice, especially with weather like this! There were definitely people driving out to car parks around here for walks but it is still relatively quiet.
I was out on Monday, the last day pre-'lockdown' and the moors had started to dry, it's surprising how quickly they can at this time of year. Sorry to say it but looking at the weather forecast it will be fire season next! Good luck.

In a fairly unique position of receiving absolutely no help from the government I think.

Only started doing deliveroo recently so not eligible for the self-employed help, currently not employed by my university as the teaching contracts are fixed term and have run out and am a full time student through the PhD so can't apply for universal credit.

Look, we all know that these are difficult times for everyone, we don't need it constantly pushed in our faces by the self appointed experts on here, or those selectively posting the most "bad news" tweets they can find

There are loads of positives coming out of this, if people on here are too wrapped up in their conspiracy theories to see them then that's their problem

People are looking out for each other more, especially the old and vunerable
People volunteering more
People connecting more with their families through being together or home schooling
People realising that money is not the be all and end all
People realising what is really important
People realising that the people whose jobs are really important are actually those in food production, logistics, delivery, the care system and, of course, the NHS - often those who are paid the least
People seeing the benefits of socialism rather than capitalism and greed
Benefits for the environment
More awareness of mental health
People out exercising or walking as families that would never normally do so
The acceleration of a move towards remote working and the flexibility that this brings
The time to reflect or read or whatever
I want what this guy’s having.

It is unbelievable how quickly everything is drying up. it's dust bowl territory in places. We've had one small fire over towards Marsden so far...there seems to be some sort of species of flammable heather on these moors.

So in June us self employed people get a payment of 80% of our monthly wage (under £2500) for how many months.

I'm not really understanding what's just been announced.

I'd also like to know why you can't buy giant feckoff tubs of peanut butter like you get in America? Crappy little servings here.
Define giant feckoff. Does 1kg* count?

We always have a tub of Meridian in the cupboard. Gorgeous. Mind you, it’s “natural” and not full of corn syrup, so probably inedible to a Yank :smirk:

* apparently that’s 2.205 pounds in Brexit measures

3 I think? Will cover April May June. That's it for now, obviously they'll see where we go and what's happening after June

 mate complaining that he's going to be out of pocket because his declared income for the last decade is about 8 grand less than what he actually makes. Actually thought I'd sympathise with him, the thick twat.

Anyone else have their life completely ruined so far? I have to say that all this happened in the worst time possible for me and my family. We'll probably lose everything. :(

I think in June you get the payment, it is 3 months all at once, HMRC contact you if your eligible, you have to earn under £50 k, you can claim it whether you able to continue working or not, it is taxable, and you are eligible still if you claim Tax credits and Universal credit.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It is still crap for carers on zero hour contracts. My wife is on a zero hour contract with abacare but works over 45 hours every week , she is also asthmatic and has COPD and has to stop working because of this, she doesn`t want to mainly as we need the money, she loves her job and worries about the oldies she cares for. She has been told she will only get £94 SSP , shite.

All sounds pretty reasonable. Backing those who have paid into the system and have run their business and declared their income honestly.
So many builders are going to be up shitcreek now though. I guess most under declare but a good amount have paid dick all for their whole lives.

Just done a 2.5 hour walk with the dog and met maybe five people total. I like this world.
It’s great.

I absolutely love walking around Saddleworth. A little trip up to Pots and Pans would be glorious now.
Id like to get up on Marsden but I fear being shamed by a police drone.

The form we have to carry with us in Italy every time we leave the house has been revised again - I think it's the fourth version now. Each time it gets more complicated and you have to make even more declarations. You also have to include all your personal data.

The fine for being out without a valid reason is now up to 4000 euros.

Nah it's dead and has been for two weeks.

There's less than 20 restaurants left on it in the whole city and they're all shit places so no one is ordering.

The wait for self employed is an issue, however, the july tax payment has been deferred, so most should have that to use to tide them over those three months.

Its teh zero hours contract and temp workers that still get very little I think.

Last time I ordered the food got cold while I struggled to delicately remove the packing as if I were handling nuclear waste.

I know lives are being ruined but everyone on Twitter complaining they’re not getting money because they’ve been tax avoiding for the past few years via dividend payments instead of taking a wage. Hopefully they have some good savings behind them.

Chickens coming home to roost like the financial crash in 08. Lots of self employed got upset they couldn’t claim contribution based benefits when they chose not to pay their national insurance.

Seems to be largely ignored by those most vocal about this.

Agreed on the second point; zero hour contract workers are fecked.

My wife has just been given a form today stating she is a NHS key worker for in case the Police ask.

You can also get universal credit or even a temporary job in the mean time.

Think its the best they can do. Obviously need time to decide who is eligible and how much for.

The Government is now suggesting it might partake in the EU wide medical equipment procurement schemes after all. Apparently they "missed the email inviting the UK to join in", and definitely aren't backtracking after their grandstanding received intense criticism .

It's frustrating how often we seem to need to be dragged kicking and screaming into doing the right thing, every delay will cost lives

Haha really? Serves them all right for trying to be ‘tax efficient’ and not paying into system properly. Pay your fair share, it’s as simple as that.

We are all gonna be fecked once this is over, going to be paying astronomical tax and NI for years.

This isn't the time we are financially struggling, it's going to be for years to come.

I'm having a hard time getting my head around this 'not essential' malarcky. Surely the most important thing is social distancing, which is exactly what these schmucks are doing all the way up in the mountains. Them being there might even free them up from walking dogs in more crowded places.

Am I wrong here?

Edit: Assuming they have to go out and walk the dog, which I believe is covered in the T&Cs

That's good, makes it a bit easier for NHS staff. I'm wondering if the UK will bring in a form as they have in Italy - it would have to be less complicated than the one we're using. However, it works in that you literally worry just going 5 minutes away to the nearest shop, which is all we're allowed to do.
