Whether that actually happens or not, just shows how outlandish the predictions of no football for the next 12 months were. The big 4 are all preparing for restarting as soon as possible and finishing the season.
To be honest what's outlandish is anyone predicting dates for football to restart. If 700 odd people are still dying everyday in the UK then football won't be back and rightly so .

Anderson, Liverpool's first directly elected mayor, told BBC Sport: "Even if it was behind closed doors, there'd be many thousands of people who would turn up outside Anfield.

Anderson added: "I think the best thing to do is to actually end the season.

"It isn't just about Liverpool - they've clearly won the league - they deserve it, they should be crowned league champions.

It's small time to be making a point out of it being a 'massive advantage for us for fourth'.
It's the truth, I'm making a point that a team gets a massive advantage having a competitor lose one of their most important player? Are you suggesting it wouldn't be a massive advantage?

@arnie_ni that would mean the league changing its rules regarding loans? One thing I will say is that I don't envy the top jobs in football at the moment, anything they do will piss off thousands of people.

Football won't be able to win whatever it does, it's an easy target. Other sports, TV productions etc won't even get half the scrutiny when they return.

One thing that has become very clear during this pandemic is just how big the internalised hatred of football is, I knew people outside the game had a low opinion of it but I never realized just how many actual football fans secretly/subconsciously felt the same.
I think you are partly right. Certainly true of elite football like the Premier League & elite clubs in Europe, but I don't think either football/non football fans view lower league or grassroots football with disdain or hatred.

Yea thats why i keep saying if we can legally allow him to stay a month longer or whatever it takes to finish the league we would.

If it cant be done, its very unfortunate for sheff utd and one of the reasons youd think the 30th june would be the deadline

Then we're definitely in an agreement!

Side not, I'd love to watch a game of football right now.

Seen a few rumours going round Twitter that the EFL is unlikely to restart (god knows how true that is)

If it is cancelled and Liverpool awarded the title you'd have to relegate teams as well you can't have 2 different sets of rules for the top and bottom of the league.

Twelve points clear with a game in hand, plus a gazillion better goal difference than Marseille in second place...

Hard to argue with that but, in saying that, it’s also a bit hollow being crowned champions of a league that’s only 3/4 way completed. It’s all a bit ‘meh’.
But that sets a bad precedence for Lille who now miss out on CL by one point. And Amiens who are relegated. Will there be humongous legal challenges? Did the French FA not see these coming before announcing?

You've been doing nothing but argue against that in the UK.

Keep reading that, so tiresome. Spoiler: they can do whatever the feck they like. They probably (and hopefully) won't, but they easily could.

Say the league returns in June (Portugal is aiming for a June 1st return) wtf does that mean for the following season? The league would go on until mid July so when and how do you start the following season?

The same time you normally would. The idea is that players won't need the rest they usually have because they're effectively having it now. Of course it's not even remotely the same, but the whole thing is unprecedented and next season in undoubtedly going to be weird anyway.

How viable would playing out the season be is another conversation altogether.

Hold on a second, I’ve been championing the cause for completing this season - and thus, seeing you lot win the title that you undoubtedly deserve - but I see no value in awarding you a title for a truncated season, nor indeed coming up with superfluous methods of extrapolating how a season will end based on how it started, e.g. points-per-game rubbish. Completing the season on the field of play usurps every other airy-fairy bullshit, for me, but if the season cannot be completed due to a litany of health and safety issues, then it’s tough luck on many teams, not just Liverpool.

I think that’s quite fair from a sporting standpoint.

Premier league is back in June. A sport travel agency that manages logistics for some top teams (spurs, city, wolves, newcastle, rangers to name a few).
Has been tasked with arranging hotels and travel for 8 weeks starting mid may.

All premier league teams will play their remaining games at St. George’s Park, behind closed doors and for TV only. The complex will host 2/3 games a day that will be streamed live.

The players will go into isolation mid may at select hotels in the vicinity of st georges and will train at local clubs grounds.

They will not be able to see family and friends during the period of games. Each player will be tested regulary to ensure safety and hotels will be locked down for players only.

Looks like we are going to have a world cup style June with loads of games to watch.

Not sure how true. Sent via WhatsApp. True or not how would you guys feel if this was the solution?

I'll eat my hat if there is any football left this season. I for one think it is done. Ligue 1 apparently are taking the current positions as final. So PSG win it, whoever is in CL spots goes into CL, and relegation positions go down.

Suspect if we get cancelled, they'll do the same here. Points per game. Which more or less leaves table as it is

There's plenty in the USA who seem to believe this.
It's a bit unclear what on earth anyone would gain from this current situation.

Just like with the last round of fixtures before the lock-down, will the plug be pulled on restarting shortly after it's announced? Few reasons I can think of make that a reasonable possibility at least.

Would it be possible for clever hedge fund managers etc to make money right now?

There was no way they were never going to crown PSG winners. For all the supposed precedents that people on here bang on about, there's also a sense of fair sportmanship that the team that was, in all conceivable likelhood, going to win the league should be recognised for their efforts.

If it happens with Liverpool, it takes a bit of shine off it, but the monkey's off our backs and we can crack on with winning number 20 with even more motivation to not let standards slip.
I'm not sure that's true.

The record books will state you as champions, but the club and its fans will experience very little of the psychological and emotional rewards normally enjoyed.

And rival fans will never accept due to pure tribalism, and will savagely mock the win through some unique songs.

Probably not even clever ones I suppose.
Wasn't there some politician who sold all their shares having sat in a meeting where lock down was decided, and then funnily enough the shares bombed AFTER it was publicised? Saving them a huge wad.

Will be plenty of insider trading, but no one is creating a whole world wide hoax for it.

It was Jo Moore who infamously branded 9/11 a "good" day to bury bad news?

(edited to get the right surname, had made a horrible mistake with my first go!!)

Can’t see the players wanting that or pfa agreeing. Jimenez wife is having a baby in June is he going to agree to being away for that amount of time? Seems a bit extreme. They’d all be sharing changing rooms too

Is this true? Weird for French league to have such a rule no other league has.

Why was that what some people were saying? Thats insane - I'd say the vast majority of peop-le in the UK now know someone who has been affected to some degree. I suppose there are some mentalist out there who will believe anything. That reminds me I'm due my hourly Dettol gargle.

Not a chance the players will agree to that.

I believe the travel agency is being asked. The league will be wanting to check all the logistics of different options.

I suppose you'll always get the gamut of reactions.

I was just on a "crap decisions" type thread, and remembering some that went against United in the treble season.
The truth of it back then is the same as the City/Liverpool ones - if you attack a lot more than the opposition, you'll get more pens, and decisions on the whole.

But the ABU will get hell bent on the ones that went for us, and forget the big ones that went against us as we generally won the game anyway.

The players will tell them to feck off, and rightly so. Tearing them apart from the families for two-two and a half months...

That can keep "aiming" for this all they like, but there's absolutely no guarantee of any of it being doable.
To be fair, I don't think anybody who's working to get the football season back by a certain date is doing so under the presumption that it's a guarantee. These dates are malleable, obviously. Just gives them something to work towards I guess.
