Im not saying that, but in terms of actual car experiences, it is way down the list. I found F12019 to be one of the better racing games ive ever played, but its also far from sim worthy.
The "best driving experience" doesn't necessarily mean the same thing to you as to others. It doesn't necessarily imply realism.

I liked the original Race Driver GRID, that's about as sim as I usually get. Although I also like Colin McRae Rally...

Depends on the Colin McRae we're talking about. If we're talking about Dirt Rally, those games are actually some of the most ridiculously hard sims you can play. It absolutely astounds me that Codemasters had the balls to throw shit to the wind and thought, we are going to take a brand name console game and go full sim on it and hope that casual users buy it... and they did.

Even the other cm's are not bad, but Dirt Rally and Dirt Rally 2.0 are infuriating master pieces.

GRID was one of the most fun racing games ever. If I remember right it had competitive AI that wasn't on a rail and often made mistakes. Most enjoyable racing against AI I've experienced.

Forza 2 with the force feedback wheel is much better than being given credit for, it's the last one that could be considered semi-sim. It got the balance right between stupidly hardcore and stupidly aided.

All the ones that have followed have been progressively dumbed, and even when they said they fully disabled steering assist again with the later ones, that's bull.

All Sony need to do is show actual gameplay and they have won easily, there’s more dislikes than likes on the Xbox YouTube and that’s despite them deleting a load of dislikes

Codemasters have fecked the Dirt series, and the Grid series, and the Micromachine series. With all their latest iterations. They're an absolute shambles right now.

Xbox don't control the dislikes on YT videos, but yeah, given that they had hyped IX as a showcase for gameplay, I thought there'd be a bit more gameplay shown rather than pretty much all "in engine" stuff.

After watching that I wish I could find a gif of Ian Malcolm in the Jurassic Park car tapping the camera saying

"Uhh HELLO, are you eventually honing to have actual gameplay in your gameplay conference???"

I am sure I've seen YouTube removing dislikes off all-sorts because companies have complained. Was a massive thing about it end of last year iirc, can't remember the company involved in that one.

I can't believe how bad it was. In the first half between the trailers they were building up to the first gameplay reveal of AC Valhalla. Then the moment came and it was another trailer. Followed by a guy who actually had the cheek to say something like "Wow, we've seen some great gameplay showcased here today". No we didn't, not even a single second of it.

Oh my word, how good was this with 3 mates? So, so much fun!!!

Why doesn’t someone just remake this?
Codemasters did a remake back in 2017 - MicroMachines World Series. It had virtually no content, an online lobby system that didn't work, and they tried to market it at full game prices on console and steam

Needless to say no one bought it and everyone that did refunded it within an hour.

what a shame, playing this with my mates in the 90’s I’d rate this as one of the greatest multiplayers of all time.

AC Valhalla running at 4k 30fps. Disappointing for a cross gen game.

Most developers will nearly always go for graphical fidelity over fps so not sure why this is always surprising.

It could be 2040 and in the PlayStation 8 and there will still be games coming out that are 30fps as a lot will always opt for the extra bells and whistles no matter how powerful the console is.

It's not surprising, that's the thing.

However, that doesn't make it a good thing. 30fps is dogshit no matter the year or genre of game, but console gamers fecking love to defend it for some bizzare reason despite the fact their 4k tvs are capable of so much more

I agree with the fps stuff.
Until a couple of years ago, I didn't even realise it was a thing (I think thats the problem though, people don't know)
I think this is were Twitch has made an impact. Games now trying to push 60fps, they're even trying to hit 120fps on the new consoles. People are starting to understand.

Problem is, without experiencing it, they'll never understand it.
On a few occasions my monitor has set itself back to 60fps after I unplugged my TV and I thought my game was just lagging, but it was the FPS.

When I made the switch a few years ago, a friend did also. Only in the last 6months has he really played the PC though, even then, he plays on a TV at 60, with a controller. Admits every game performs way better on the pc (PUBG, Warzone, F76, Apex) but just won't make the full jump.

Clings on to the console, will buy the next xbox and settle for what it is.
-----
I'm not saying consoles are bad btw. They clearly have a huge market and for good reason.
But if you can afford to go the PC route, it's a no brainer (Obviously exclusives for PS taken into account, but even a big majority of them are playable on a PC these days)

Thing with PC that puts off people is the cheaters.

Nobody plays something casual like Fifa because it's full of glitchy cheaters. I played GTA V online on PC the other day and every lobby there was some sort of cheater. Never had that problem with PS4. Same with warzone.

Good article on it. Theres no doubt if you got a good setup it will play better on pc. I got a 2080 TI last year the games are beautiful on it. But I’m still excited for new consoles.

30 frames a second is better because it is more cinematic, and to get the full "authentic gamer experience" you should ideally play the games projected through a zoetrope.

Not sure what to do about next-gen. I'm pretty set on going with Sony next, as I've had the Xbox One, and don't feel there's too much of a drastic change in the Series X to justify buying it. Although my original plan was to get a PS4 on the cheap (£70-£80) in a year or so, to catch up on the exclusives that I wanted to play, and some of the remastered ps3 games I didn't get to finish, but after seeing that majority of PS4 games should be backwards compatible, I'm thinking maybe it's a smarter decision if I wait for the PS5 to drop to ~£300 and invest in that, killing two birds with one stone?

By the sounds of Phil Spencers latest comments. We won’t see any proper next gen games until 2022.

He said the games that were supposed to come out in 2021 are going to have delays because they can’t do any motion capture work or voice acting. This will probably be a widespread issue.

Could see more remakes or remasters coming out in the next year.

If Weaste and Cider were still here I'm guessing Weaste would be bragging about SSDs and Cider about teraflops?

Wonder what @Alock1 would be bragging about? I can be lowkey VR hype if needed

I miss the days of those guys and @Redlambs going at it.

Redlambs and Weaste actually knew the technical side of it all like the backs of their hands.

Cider thought he did because he sat on his arse playing COD:lol:

He could blag a good game, it was always a joy to watch! I really miss those guys around console silly season, it was a great laugh and is sorely missed :(

What's most amusing is your ability to soak up Microsoft orchestrated PR as gospel. You read that stuff and don't even understand a fecking word it says.

It's clear that your apparent expertise have entirely abandoned you in favour of outright $ON¥ loving, Weaste. I use the word 'apparent' quite wrongly btw since your expertise are anything but.

You come out with such obvious horseshit as "The XBO will be to the PS4 what the Wii U is to the XBO" and expect people to believe you know what you're talking about, all the while labeling any testament in opposition to your moronic tripe as PR bullshit?

I'm absolutely pissing myself laughing at you here, Weaste, you've outdone yourself!
Memories...

That first part is true, and they seem to be absolutely right to do so.

Insomniac did thing on it ~15 years ago now, explaining how they were done trying to hit 60 FPS when, apart from a small subset of people that moaned loudly about it, critics scores, sales and fan scores didn't seem to be care about 60 fps vs 30 fps as long as it was consistent.

Ratchet and Clank PS4 is 30 FPS and people were gushing over the visuals when it came out. I actually think R&C PS4 is a pretty crap game, but thats besides the point. It is pretty at times.

Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4 both 30 fps. Last of US on PS3 30 FPS. They take all the plaudits, hardly anyone cares.

That being said, it would be nice to do 60 fps at some point

They are. Because console gamers know no better, shiny sells and funds more games.

However I will say people who claim they can't tell the difference, or that fps is some new buzzword...well, I can't deal with that level of wilful ignorance. Even kids who play fortnite know the difference these days, it's a whole new world for those who want to believe even 60fps is acceptable. It's exactly why the big two are magically talking about 120fps now that they'll never in a million years reach

It really depends on the game though, I don't think you can just reduce it ""they don't know better". Is there a tangible benefit if, for example, a JRPG like Dragon Quest or Persona runs at 60 vs a steady 30? I'd argue it's not worth it. Even in games like Uncharted and Assassin's Creed I'm not sure it bothers me. But games like Nioh and Nier Automata, hell yes I'm glad they run at 60 fps (at least on the Pro, not sure about the base console), you absolutely need it there. Bloodborne definitely should've had it as well, but let's not go there because From Software's frame pacing is garbage anyway.

For next-gen titles, if they don't aim for 4k60 (which I seriously doubt, even high-end PC's struggle with native 4k60 in some games), then it would at least be nice if most titles have a 1080p60 option available. I still haven't upgraded to 4k anyway, so that would be my mode of play. Or offer non-native 4k60 with whatever upscaling they're going to use.

Is cross platform gonna become more prevalent? Would really make things easier, as which console mates will also have is the only real worthwhile deciding factor at the moment.

It annoys me in racing games with input lag and the likes. Like seriously, trying playing Dirt Rally 2 on a console, with a controller. Its near impossible.

I believe dirt 5 on Series X will run at 1080p/120fps.

What a shame that the new Ass Creed games runs at 30 fps. That's trash.

PCs have more cheaters online. They take more set up to play any games. Their a faff.

It's not just about money.
