The clauses that hasn't been triggered are 2 for Barca to win the CL in 18/19 and 19/20 and 1 for Coutinho making 100 appearances for Barca, the rest of the clauses has been met (CL qualification in same 2 seasons, and 25, 50, 75 appearances). It would have been idiotic to only plan and budget for all the clauses being met within 2.5 years if that's the case, so I highly doubt it.
But the current situation is completely unprecedented. I'd be absolutely shocked if any club planned for a global pandemic. In any case, all I'm suggesting is Liverpool aren't cash rich this year. They're relying on clubs like Bournemouth spending silly amounts on players like Ibe and Solanke again.

I think Ziyech will primarily play on the right but will also get plenty of time in the #10 role. But remember we have Mount who is almost Frank's first name on the team sheet and is key to our high pressing game. So I don't think Ziyech just permenantly displaces Mason from that spot.

Ziyech's biggest and best weapon is his wand of a left foot. It makes much more sense to play him out wide where he can swing in those fantastic crosses that he's known for than playing him just behind the striker where opponents will pack their defense.
There's a lot of adaptability in the squad next season, Ziyech can play CM, RW and even false 9, Werner can play ST and LW, Callum and Pulisic both wings, Mount and RLC CM and wings, potentially Gallagher returning who can play anywhere across midfield and the front line, with such adaptability we can keep players fresh and happy.

I think partly while Lamps is (allegedly) thinking of playing Hakim more in the centre is because of the chemistry on the right between James and CHO, it's brilliant, they have a ridiculously good understanding between eachother.

Will be interesting to see how Chelsea play this.

Could be;
back 4 Kante, Kovacic, Ziyech, Pulisic, Werner, Abraham as a 4-4-2 similar to what RBL play.

Ziyech and Werner for 85 million is a great bit of business, especially considering Sancho is going to cost more than both of them combined.

That’s if he comes here at all, still need to qualify for the CL.
I agree. Sancho looks top class and given that he looks a perfect fit for United, would be worth pushing the boat out for. However a fee of £100m+ for him, especially in the post-coronavirus market, is just extorionate.

As for Werner he looks like the ideal fit for Chelsea. Can be used down the middle as the main striker getting in behind teams, but could also be used off the flank with Giroud/Abraham as a great foil for him.

Surprised that Liverpool seem to have gone away. If they can't find £50m for a top striker who wanted to join them and who Klopp thought was perfect for them then I'd be surprised if they do any business at all after the end of the season.

I don't understand all these comments here saying "I don't get it" or "he's not all that."

He's got an insane goal and assist record in the very same league that Sancho plays in. Sancho is the next global superstar but Werner is "meh?"

He's one of the very best players in Germany and is still young.

Agreed i think both of us need 1 more season before we can even think about going for them two over 38 games, however a season similar to Liverpool 17/18 is very much achieveable for both sides as you touched up on.
I think both will look to peak as those 2 decline, especially with Klopp and Pep not going to stay there forever, I'd expect the timings to kind of lineup for both of us as they both drop down.

He was a squad player in the world cup for a disfunctional team and was put on the wing. Guy is a brilliant striker with a brilliant record, if used properly. Think he'll be excellent here.

Quite a few absolutely top players look nothing like they do for their clubs when they play for their country.

He didn't look great against Spurs in the CL but could have just been off form. I think his record speaks for itself and it's undoubtedly worth getting him in. I do find it odd no one else seems interested though given he has a release clause?

From what I have seen, Werner is at his best in a front two, along side a hard working target man. He doesn't have that at international level.

I think he could work well in a front two with Abraham. He will be less successful if he's deployed as a lone striker.

Werner has played out wide before so could do so again + the majority of clubs that win the league will have as much quality in back-up compared to the first xi. Willian, Giroud, Pedro are all aging and on their way out so to have options of Abraham, Pulisic, Ziyech, Werner, Hudson-Odoi isn't a bad thing and it definitely isn't a sign of not believing in youth.
Hudson-Odoi will be at Bournemouth in the next 3 years.

Were it not for the virus he'd surely be a Liverpool player. Klopp is arguably the top coach in the world right now and had multiple conversations with Werner. If he wants him that's good enough to convince me.

I think many more clubs would be after him if these were normal times. We just so happen to have loads of cash laying around due to the transfer ban.

Yes please. When he's in a slump of form he's worse than Lukaku when it comes to converting easy chances.

He looks like a Liverpool player when I watch him play. Very quick both in terms of pace / acceleration and in how fast he thinks.

Might have some trouble adapting to the PL / Chelsea play style but he'll definitely improve them.

In all seriousness, Klopp clearly wanted him and he wanted to join Liverpool so its a huge disappointment that he's going to Chelsea.

From a United perspective I wouldn't want him to join one of your challengers for fourth place though? This could push Chelsea in to title contenders next season.
That's true but Sancho is a much greater priority for us.

Forwards that Chelsea have bought this century:

Pedro, Costa, Falcao, Remy, Salah, Eto'o, Ba, Lukaku, Torres, Sturridge, Anelka, Di Santo, Schevchenko, Drogba, Kezman, Crespo, Mutu, Hasselbaink

I'd only consider 4 out of 18 to be successes. In particular, the likes of Torres, Crespo, Schevchenko, Kezman and Eto'o were all huge disappointments given their reputations.

Let Werner go to Stamford Bridge. It's a graveyard for striking talent.

Couldn't disagree more regarding Crespo and Eto'o was very underrated while here, delivered in many big games (as i'd imagine you'll remember) and his injury vs Arsenal fecked us badly.

Putting Pedro (who hasn't flopped in the slightest) and Salah there is bizarre given they're wingers, for the sake of consistentcy you should therefore add Hazard, Malouda, Cole, Duff and Robben etc al.

You also forgot Gudjohnsen and Anelka, both of whom had successful stints with us.

A lot of conformation bias there to say the least.

I'm a bit jealous.
Yeah not going to be one of these fans who says we never wanted him like some probably will. The press will also have a field day writing about him snubbing Utd too.

This is a fairer response. Thanks. I did my best tongue biting when posting that to be as fair as possible. Sancho has not signed yet and until he does it's only "ifs".

Bruno is world class IMO, for me potential PL player of the season if he can carry on his form next year, and he will bring the best out of Martial, Rashford and Pogba. However, Utd are not a top four looking team yet from an outsider's perspective. A big reason for that is because you have Ole in charge. That's also IMO of course.

Chelsea with kids, literally kids, are finishing ahead of Ole this season. That's unacceptable, whatever the excuses. Utd will be stronger next season but as we're seeing, Chelsea will too. One thing to not change will be Ole
Average age of top 12 players who played most mins - 25.83
For ManUtd it's 25.

Then from 13th onwards Chelsea have players like Emerson, Alonso, Pedro, Barkley, Giroud, Caballero, Batshuayi who played at least 200 mins
For ManUtd we have Young, Mata, Lingard, Pogba, Bruno who played at least 200 mins.

Average age of top 11 outfield players who played most mins.
Chelsea - 25.9
ManUtd - 24.6

Average age of all the players who played at least 200 mins
Chelsea - 26.3
ManUtd - 25.3

Average age of all the players who played at least 1 mins
Chelsea - 25.07
ManUtd - 24.89

This is ignoring that players like Tomoro and other kids have much more experience than players like AWB, McTominay, James and others.

Werner is 24 years old and has got a goal or an assist at every 75 mins.
Sancho is 20 years old and has got a goal or an assist at every 59 mins.

That's why there's a difference in people rating them both. It's not rocket science.

Obviously Werner is a very good player and not "meh" btw.

Maybe good news for us? Since Chelsea is competing with us for Sancho, now that they got Werner, maybe they won’t spend big again on another forward?

They won't have enough money left for Sancho.
There’s plenty of money left surely? They’ve had a ban for the last two windows, so all that budget + Hazard 100m money + whatever they got for Morata

So much for Werner desperate to player under Klopp.
He was trying to get them to move, but they didnt want him, so you take what you can i guess. Chelsea is still the second best option and might be the better fit in the end. He will play more, that's for sure. He is a quality player

It’s a bullet dodged for Liverpool as he’s not that good. Will be another striking flop for Chelsea.

Good signing by Chelsea.
We Liverpool fans should just enjoy every minute under Klopp because once he leaves, we're fecked. FSG are worse than Glazers. No major signings since Alisson.
You spent over £100m on a goalkeeper and centre half to win the league. How much did Keita and Fabinho cost while we’re at it?

Yeah, I don't think Pool can spend much unless they sell few players well (Keita? Shaqiri?). Coutinho paid for their two big transfers and last summer they even finished with positive net spend, I believe. No chance they can go after Havertz, Sancho etc.

Perhaps I worded myself wrong. What I tried to convey is that Chelsea have dropped a lot of points for a while after a phenomenal start, but Leicester are in major, major trouble. I can very well see them landing outside the top4. 1 win 2 draw in the last 7.
I wish I was as optimistic as you are. Our form before the hiatus was great but is no indicator on how we'll fare after the restart. Mourinho has had 3 months to get his players ready for this game (same as Ole) and if we get off on the wrong foot (followed by the Sheffield United game) it can all become a mountain to climb.

But I'm a natural pessimist and really hope I'm wrong.
