Top tier for sure. Only ever lost to two fighters and one of those was Jon Jones who is firstly regarded by some as arguably the greatest ever and secondly tested positive for steroids after the second fight. Only other guy to beat him was Stipe and Cormier was 40 years old at that point and it was a close fight and was against a guy who knocked out not long before.

Dominated most of the people he fought. Has been champion at both LHW and HW which is absolutely insane and hasn't been done by anybody else in the UFC. Never shyed away from top competition. He's without a doubt one of the greatest ever even with the three losses on his record.
Probably was on PEDs for the first fight as well.

DC > Jones.

Not to return to a fairly pointless discussion but where would ye rank DC in an all time list?

Obviously he isn't in the top tier (especially considering how Jones fights went) but then few are. Beyond that though he's been champion at two weight classes, defended at two weight classes, beaten the most successful heavyweight in the history of the UFC (and now has an opportunity to do so a second time), has won a title in every promotion he's fought in and fought clean the entire time. Not too shabby a resume.
Easily top 10. One of the more complete and cerebral fighters in UFC history.

GSP
Jones
Silva

After that the arguments begin.

If DC happens to win, the temptation to finish off his career with a Jones trilogy fight at HW....will be immense.
I don't think he'd do it. If he wins he should take the opportunity to retire on top. He doesn't need to fight Jones for his legacy and to be quite honest I don't think he's beating Jones at HW either.

He would have got destroyed by the juice monkeys imo.
What's to say we wouldn't have had a "TRT" DC version back then?

With a proper diet he could have started at middleweight, and win all the belts up to heavyweight.

In some parallel universe, DC is UFC triple champ.

He can cut weight to 205, he wouldnt have the size imo. Brock has to cut just for heavyweight.
Today its different but against Cain, Brock, Ubereem? I just dont know. Could he take prime Silva even?
It was a different world

I was picturing the island where Mortal Kombat took place... So disappointed
Same, to the point where I wondered what odds on fighters coming across and attacking each other in a empty woods a la Scorpion and Johnny Cage. Reality is such a let down.

haha yeah I imagine Jones and DC would have a fight in the forest. I could also imagine Dana capturing Ronda, Shevchenko fighting Cejudo and Ngannou growing two extra arms

Abu Dhabi in the summer. Sounds ideal.
I thought it would be somewhere near West Indies or off California , somewhere much nearer US. Is it further evidence on how Russia and Islamic markets are becoming even more critical to future of MMA?

They do event all over the world - Brazil, Australia, Abu Dhabi etc. In this case, the authorities in Abu Dhabi seem to have given them the best deal at a time when the UFC are desperate for revenue. This will also give Dana a chance to fight some of the Chechen and Dagestan fighters who have a hard time qualifying for US visas.

As far as I'm aware the original intent of the "fight island" thing was to get the non-US fighters who would have an issue getting into the country due to the travel ban on a card. Having it close to America wouldn't really be necessary at all, I don't think.

OK. so its a short term move to ensure they can get Russian fighters into play, covidSecure.

They have a 5 year deal (big $$$) with Abu Dhabi to host events there. Started last year in September.

Im biased against him so cant tell: objectively, surely he is now just a joke? Given him bottling the Ferguson fight and now retiring (again).
I doubt he bottled the Ferguson fight so much as wanted too much money to cut weight and train for a fight he might not compete in, the same reason he's ''retired'' again he wants more money. I expect McGregor will fight again next year.

It is funny how on the same page of this thread people are using COVID as a reason Khabib hasn't fought (fair enough reason as well) and McGregor is a bottler for not taking a short notice fight

Such is MMA fandom I suppose. Some become too biased for/against certain fighters and then nonsense is spouted.

In particular the whole he is afraid/bottled it crap is a bit cringeworthy I’ve always felt. Especially when you consider they’re talking about people who willingly get locked inside a cage and get punched/kicked in the head for a living.

Still one of the greatest tactical performances in UFC history imo - in terms of overcoming an opponent with vastly superior physical power.
