Wow, just give them smalling + cash, he is very good young player.
Yeah we should be all over that, using Mike as a bartering tool. Would represent a very good and cheap alternative to Grealish, hopefully allowing us to throw some money at the CB position as well.

At that price I'd get him over Grealish
As much as I love this guy I’m not sure he’d be okay coming to sit on the bench for us and not really as a starter.

Specially the upcoming season which would be key for him to solidify his spot in the Italian team for the Euros next summer.

Likewise I also don’t see him going to juve/inter unless he’s assured of sufficient playing time.

I might be wrong but he’d be a good addition at Dortmund or just stay at Roma for now. Pep might want to bring him to City since there is space for him now but again I’m not sure how much playing time he’d get..

Lille's interest in Jonathan David makes all the more sense if Osmihen's off

Pedulla is reliable, right? I think he is. Anyway, he says there's only little details left for Smalling to stay at Roma. Says we've accepted a €3m loan and then an obligation to buy for €17m, payable in three instalments.

I think that's a fair deal for everyone.

Shame that Smalling gets such disrespect from United fans. Incredible deal for Roma IMO
I don't think he gets disrespect, he's clearly not good enough for us right now and we don't want him - he got an opportunity that's turned out well at Roma and is 30. That's nearly 18m, which is more than fair.

Celebration time. Another deadwood gone. Hope this is true. He is average as it gets, held us back for years with nothing to show for. He doesn't even stand out for them. Good riddance. Jones next please

Roma want to keep the defender in Serie A but the offer of 3 million (plus 14/15 million obligatory buyout) to keep him on loan for another year does not convince the English club which continues to ask for more.

Looks like we're learning how to fetch a decent sum for our players outgoing, good to see.

We’re fine to haggle for Smalling — he’s had a very good season and will definitely attract interest from multiple teams. I imagine we’ll accept anything we can get for the likes of Rojo or Jones.

I don't know. Good enough from where we want to be in the future? A fair point I'd say although I think as a back up he'd be fine.

I don't know how you can say he is not good enough for us right now though. Apparently he has been right up there with the best in Seria A so although I dont watch that does mean with skrinier and koulibaly who hae been quote ridiculous prices.

Then at United if we take Maguire as one place, we have Lindelof who whilst has potential still doesn't fill me with confidence and isn't a great fit with Maguire.

Then Bailly is similar, has lots of brainfarts, maybe a better fit with Maguire but is just a crock added to Jones and Tuanzebe in the rehab centre who we may as well discount (like Rojo).

So whilst I agree with the sentiment I'm not actually sure who is better than him other than Maguire.

If we will have to splash the cash for a decent reserve CB like Ake, why not just keep Smalling coming off the back of a great season who has won something so can bring back that, understands the club and is on paper a good match for Maguire.

Talk about us being in for Chillwell this morning in the papers, £60m.

Personally don’t want us to pay that much for him, decent player mind.

I have to agree with @Lash here, I don't think he is good enough. While Lindelof and Bailly have had their stuggles, the answer isn't bringing back Smalling to further clog up the CB position. We need better if we want to seriously push on next season.

Smalling has had a good year in Italy so let him stay there, and a loan deal with an obligation to buy would be smart business by United. Get rid of Jones and Rojo also, hopefully Axel can shake off some of his injury issues and look for a really good centre half like Upamecano or Pau Torres. That would be excellent business.

I completely agree but I was responding to the comment about him being not good enough for us now.

If we do have money to spend on a CB to push Lindelof then yes, do that and get rid of Smalling. But if we don't have that money but need cover, I would rather bring him back to compete for first 11 than bring in someone like Ake for 20-30 million and losing him for 16-18 million (so losing financially).

Given the season he had we should stick to our guns and be demanding a lot higher. Those Italian clubs want everything on the cheap then quote ridiculous prices for their players.

If he had a great season flog him elsewhere to people that are prepared to pay a bit more. Maybe PSG will need someone after losing a couple of their CBs.

I call it bs. Shaw finally looking good with Williams as backup why would we spunk so much money on Chilwell?

It would seem a bit silly when we have a few other places to reinforce first.

Unless Ole doesn’t fancy Shaw.

I think Chillwell is class.
His form has been similar to Leicester. Was great the first few months, awful lately. Physically he is certainly impressive, but is he an improvement on Shaw? Not too sure about that based on the past few months. A few Leicester fans in here seem to prefer Fuchs.

Furthermore, has there not been a few issues with him off the pitch this season?

I reckon we will get better and cheaper players in the french or portuguese league. How did Madrid get Mendy for that price? He is mint. I like Lodi in ATM, he is good going forward with great engine.

He's playing Luke week in week out.of course he rates him. No way are we looking at left back as a priority position to strengthen this window.

maybe ole wants to move him inside at lcb. Shaw doesn't provide much attack at lb, but defensively he's been very sharp. Since Young left we don't have a true ball carrier and Chilwell is one of the best at pushing it forward.

Chilwell, Shaw, Maguire, AWB would be a very good backline and one that can compete in European play.
