Hospitalizations have almost doubled to 691 from 351, over the past 3 weeks in Orange County, California.
The population here is approx 3.2M, for context.
27 of those cases were shipped in from other counties (mostly Imperial) that were at capacity.
Cases are at 21,500 and rising fast while deaths are just over 400. That makes the death rate of 1.86%, currently.
The treatment using remdesivir, etc reduced the % of new patients put on ventilators.

I'm just reading on the Guardian about the worsening situation in California - on average, around 8,000 new cases a day over the last week. I was thinking how if you were someone who wanted to wear a mask, use hand-sanitiser and keep your distance it must be scary just going outside, because so many people aren't doing any of those things.

The authorities are also planning to release thousands of prisoners from San Quentin over the next month, because of the virus spreading amongst inmates. No doubt plenty of those people will also be infected by the time they go back into the wider community.

Indeed. As of today, it's mandatory in Belgium to wear a mask in shops, libraries, museums, movie theaters and others. Good, makes it clear for everyone.

A patient in their 30s died from the coronavirus after attending what's being called a "COVID party," according to a San Antonio health official.

Chief Medical Officer of Methodist Healthcare Dr. Jane Appleby said the idea of these parties is to see if the virus is real.

"This is a party held by somebody diagnosed by the COVID virus and the thought is to see if the virus is real and to see if anyone gets infected," Dr. Appleby said.

According to Appleby, the patient became critically ill and had a heartbreaking statement moments before death.

I and a few others have posted some studies but a very personal experience of how some families and their kids are having to cope with what lessons they do have access to being online.

It's crazy without a doubt but it's also one of those situations without a quick fix. Even if the school has the money for basic Chromebooks there's a bout a three month lead time on deliveries for them. I think our place has released more devices than any other further education organization in Scotland and we're still getting dozens of requests each day from students wanting a device (although a fair few just want something bigger than their own phone or tablet). We're still waiting for delivery of 300 more devices that were ordered at the end of March.

She's struggled all her life and got this far only for her parents to throw it away. The mother nurse is online campaigning for no masks while she's in hospital.
