Getting knocked out of the CL was a blessing in disguise for them. They'll have a longer break than City.
Except that they'd have had an incredible chance of winning it. Especially with City without Aguero.

What’s he done?

I’ve long said had he been managing United there’s no chance the media look so glowingly at his. . . passion. Top manager but unlike a lot on here I’ve never been able to stand him.
Well it was his bitter post match stuff against City that reminded me about it, and seeing him harassing refs today when they drew a meaningless game, is bizarre.

He just can’t take it and needs to learn to control himself.

Liverpool will be utterly found out next season. They have been very good this season but there are so many things working in Liverpool's favor.

Their biggest challenger i.e.city has had a dip and also had to bear the injury of laporte who is as important as van dyk for liverpool.

All the other teams such as United spurs Chelsea arsenal etc wer undergoing major transitions and have had their own share of long term injuries to important players.

Liverpool simply put in the same team game in game out with a small tweek in central midfield most of the time. It's a big testament to their fitness however I doubt if the injury free run would continue. In case they get long term injury to salah and mane then that would cause them huge issues.

Another reason I feel there will be a dip is because liverpool have peeked last two season the dip will follow inevitably and the other teams are now on a forward trajectory which will make games against them not as easy as what they had in the past. If Klopp doesn't invest in few players and freashens up the squad I think teams will figure out liverpool

I remember Mourinho's Chelsea going through the same cycle where they won the league and capitulated next season because Jose wouldn't add to the squad.

The big five of pool salah mane arnold Robertson and vandyk all need to stay fit for the whole season , taken out two from that list and the balance is gone and not the same potency

It’s classed as “passion”

That seems to be the way of it, yeah. He is beloved because he has taken everyone in the studios favourite team to glory, but he needs to sort himself out. It’s embarrassing.

They already have had a 3 month break. When the season starts City will be in full flow, while Liverpool will have to start match fitness again.

It all depends. Are you talking from Liverpool or through academy. Sterling was in academy
Wasn’t he technically signed from QPR in his teens? I wouldn’t say you could compare Sterling to Alexander-Arnold, who has been at the club from a very young age.
A lot of youth products are brought in from other clubs in their teens. Beckham and Giggs joined when they were 14, Neville joined when he was 16, while Sterling was signed at 15.

If you put a barrier on 16 and then a lot of youth products go out of the picture.
I mean include him if you like. Pogba falls into the same bracket with United but wouldn't compare him to Greenwood etc but horses for courses. You have Sterling and we will have Pogba.

Would be absolutely hilarious if he doesn't get manager of the year. He would be furious but then try not to show it yet make a complete belled of himself like he always does.

Jamie Carragher is a cretin of the highest order.

Any comparison between a United side that dominated on the homefront for a decade or more and a Liverpool side that have been exceptional for 12 months is a non-starter. Roy Keane is right, VVD is the only Liverpool player that gets in that starting eleven.

This was such an obviously ridiculous concept, I’m surprised (and disappointed tbh) Keane agreed to it. Absolute load of rubbish. Lashings for the producers for being such turds, and shame on Carragher who takes his role as a pundit seriously yet does stupid things like that (no fecking Giggs ffs).

Seriously the Sheffield United manager deserves it equally as much or maybe even more

It would mean that we would keep the best home record in a PL season if you care about that sort of thing. (though really, who gives a shit)

Think it'll be a draw now, don't see Liverpool losing at home...and Chelsea's defence is crap
Amazingly during 2010/11, when we ranged from decent to awful!

I kinda expected them to lose that extra 10-20 percent they’ve had in the tank, pure adrenaline and determination to win their first league.

i didn’t expect them to lose it this quickly, they’ve been bang average since March. Sadly they live so much in the past I believe they’ll enjoy this win so much they’ll be off the pace next season. one thing Fergie did was instantly move to next season, he’d buy new players, he’d keep them hungry. I just don’t see that here, they don’t seem all that fussed in strengthening, they’ve lost that intensity.

Keane Probably agreed to it to take the piss. He knew only one Liverpool player would get in.

Not sure why they were comparing a team who won the TREBLE to a team who were just about to win the league for the first time in a generation.

Because it was Liverpool and sky jumping the gun with scouse love in, wouldn’t have been compared to any other club

This. I also didn't expect them to lose the hunger this quickly. Klopp might think the season is finished, but he still has a job to do this season to keep the players motivated & hungrier. Can't complain if they lost it and be off pace next season, happy day for us.

Dont see it as a big deal to be honest. The majority of teams that win it early mail it in rest of the way. I remember Juventus had like 4 draws in a row after they pathetically won the title last year. One of those draws being against Torino who they usually beat without trying.

Sitting pretty in the Champions League places in the Hoofball Stakes 2019/20. A mere eighty hoofs behind Wolves in third place, that gap could be easily traversed by the 25th minute in *’s next game against Arsenal.

Don’t rule out Klopp’s men finishing the season on a high... like 80% of their attempted passes.

Poetry in motion, la!

Just heard on the radio (Norwegian) that he'll leave the club at the end of his current contract.
Great news if true.

This, in my mind, is emblematic of how fans filter the achievements of rivals. Belittling is the ‘first principle’ of tribal banter. I’ve almost certainly been guilty of such behaviour but it’s more stark when you see others doing it.

I’ve been a member of this forum for 12 years or so, in which time Liverpool have won very few trophies - certainly not in the first 11 years.

In that time I’ve been reminded on many occasions about Liverpool’s lack of silverware, particularly the lack of big trophies. I've been on the receiving end of some strong stuff at times, but it's part of the territory and that's absolutely fine. Sporadically, when the debate focused on who have won what, I was told that Liverpool had never won the World Club Cup – which was factually correct until this season. But once that trophy is won, it becomes a point of glib ‘banter’ with the trophy rendered pointless; the goalposts successfully shifted and we all move on with our lives…

But it goes deeper than winning the World Club Cup and the relative merits of such an achievement. The way of never losing at rivalry-based ‘banter’ is to permanently shift the boundaries of what defined as success and impressive. You're never wrong. You cannot lose.

Here’s my journey on this website over the past 5 years since Klopp joined:

  • Oct 2015 – Klopp joins: “Yeah, but look at his last season at Dortmund, he’s a busted flush” a line designed to disregard the signing of an elite football manager.
  • May 2016 – EL Final: “Yeah, but he just loses finals” Despite visible rapid progress (which was not anticipated in Oct) this line was used to undermine a solid achievement.
  • May 2017 – Top 4: “Yeah, but you’ll be found out in the CL” – this despite being told all season that Top 4 was well-beyond Klopp’s Liverpool given the strength of the rest of the Top 6.
  • May 2018 – CL Final: “Yeah but Klopp loses finals – he’s been found out again” Despite breaking a goalscoring record on the way to the final the achievement is defined as failure. In just over 2.5 years Klopp had almost reached the zenith of European football and look back to Oct 2015…this wasn’t supposed to happen but it did so let's disregard it anyway.
  • May 2019 – 2nd with 97 pts: “Yeah, but you’ll never win the league with Pep at City”. Imagine that being considered THE reason back in Oct 2015.
  • June 2019 – Win CL: “You beat Spurs, well done…and you still can’t win a league”. Goalposts shifted again.
  • June 2020 – Win PL: “You lost to Watford” a record 7 games to go is no real achievement, obviously but cherry-picked ‘failures’ are placed front and centre as if they, somehow, define the narrative.

My point here, is that the thing Liverpool don’t achieve is the thing that’s focused on…and even if something is achieved (World Club Cup) it’s met with ‘banter’ laughing emoji as a form of deflection.

There are posters on here who have stuck to the narrative outlined above with absolute diligence. Always questioning the achievement while regularly predicting an inevitable downfall. This form of cognitive dissonance is common amongst fans as it’s self-help therapy. Zoom out, get some perspective and you realise it’s just blind optimism and wishful thinking.

The very people who take issue with what I have written here are very much likely to be the very people who have pursued the narrative that ALWAYS places Liverpool as the failure; a perspective that is now so hollow that it’s almost become parody when you read it. If Liverpool don't get 101+ points this season there'll be a queue of posters taking tremendous comfort in this...therapy indeed.
You’re on a Utd forum pal.
