Massively annoyed. Completely lost it 70 minutes in, lucky to get a draw the way they were sitting so deep.
Sitting and defending isn't the issue. We did it well until we went down to 10 men.

But at that point someone just needs to be a leader and be vocal..will our team over the line. Instead we conceded a soft corner.

I don't even see anybody trying to hold up the ball or time waste. Some shithoursery can work at times. Time wasting was non existent even though we were under the cosh.

Feckin bottlers.
Feck off.

10 men and a lack of options on the bench. not a lot OGS could have done there. A real shame what occurred but we will still get top 3. Some people have really short memories, 1 game, and every insult is thrown at Ole and the lads, 10 games ago we had no hope in hell of top 4, now look at us. Some of you need a reality check ffs.

I think that game will have killed the momentum we had. Not sure I can see us getting 3 points at Palace and I don't trust these players in a crunch game against Leicester. They love bottling it as soon as there's any pressure.

I've been saying for a long time that I'm worried we might be massive bottlers. Last season we had no chance of top 4, demolished teams, top 4 became realistic and then we collapse. This season, whenever Chelsea played before us and lost/drew we then dropped points almost everytime (maybe even everytime). And look now, same again. If we play before Chelsea (and now Leicester) we demolish teams, top 4 is back on, we play second knowing we can close gap and we draw. Bottlers.
Reminds me of Arsenal whenever they were in touching distance in going top. You knew they'd manage some way to mess it up.

Just heard Soton ran 7km longer than us. Suppose the tight schedule is starting to take its toll. We’re lacking in creativity in depth. Would be a good argument we should go for both Grealish and Sancho this summer.

I'm watching the UnitedStand right now and Mark Goldbridge is talking about how Pallister and Bruce would have been all over that and Maguire should have been all over it. No they wouldn't, because Schmeichel would have plowed through everyone and punched it away...
Completely agree with this. We have this problem because the opposition knows that our keeper is never going to come off his line for these types of balls. Coupled with our hit-and-miss defence, it's almost inviting the opposition to put their head onto it every time. It's a huge issue.

If it comes down to the Leicester game, it will be like West Ham away in 2016. We'll fold.
We might get a draw. Don't see us winning though.

Hence we probably need to rely on others to slip up.

Thats assuming we can somehow get 6 points in the next two fixtures. Very difficult to play palace away.

A win over soton was the cushion we needed tbh. Thats gone now and we only have ourselves to blame (and some terrible luck with the Brandon Williams injury).

Typical overreaction by some. Football fans really are funny.

It was annoying, we weren’t very good tonight and the Williams injury didn’t help us at all but we need to move on and bounce back Thursday now.

Chelsea and Leicester are going to drop multiple points, we just have to get back to winning ways.

Terrible result. Bruno, Pogba, AWB were not good enough today. Greenwood not involved enough, didn’t do much wrong, but a little meek.

As a team we weren’t good enough. Lindelöf I thought was great, until the equalizer. He is weak in physical duels I think. Disappointing night, but I’ll wait and see how we bounce back before I panic.I expect to se us fired up vs Palace.

People who says chill down need to realise its 3.. Only 3 fecking games left! Do you think we have the whole season to close the gap? N O !!!!!

Its 3 fecking games. This was our chance. FECK!!!!
I'm hardly the most optimistic of guys usually but seriously, look at Chelsea and Leicester's fixtures. They're not getting nine points in those games. The only possible problem I see is fatigue in games against Palace and West Ham (the prospect of David Moyes doing something to harm us again is my chief worry). Otherwise, It's still very doable and in our hands. I just can't see Leicester's defense handling our front line.

Not a great performance but I think Southampton played pretty well and deserve some credit.

Do people know that Leicester have gotten 14 points in 14 games? 21 points in 19 games?

They could easily not get another point. Most likely 1-2

Its certainly a great discussion happening. 'Player x is shit' 'we bottled it' etc etc

Illuminating stuff
Except it's mostly not that and you know it.

I'm not sure what you expect. There is always more to discuss when things don't go well, that pretty much applies to every area of life.

If you had a meeting at work about a perfect project and then a meeting about a one that went shite, which one do you think would go on longer?

Our ball retention needs improvement or we'll have nights like this in Europe.

There was a lot of uneasy fans on here pre match, and rightly so. Southampton are in form and even a couple weeks ago I felt like it could be a banana skin for us.

If we beat West Ham and Crystal Palace I think it will be enough. I can't see Leicester winning against either Sheffield or Spurs before they meet us.

We didn't win this one, but even if we had, we would still need to go all out for our last 3 games. It changes nothing, win our last 3 games and we qualify for Champions League.

It's funny that everyone is saying bruno and pogba were bad. But guess what, we looked worse without them. That's the standard of them vs the rest of the team.

We desperately need a GOOD center back this window and also another midfielder.

They're 4th in the away league table. They were 5th in the form table prior to this game and played absolutely out of their skin.

It happens.
Totally respect their quality. They made us (not for the first time this season) look clueless towards the end of the game. Peak Barcelona eat your heart out.

Just surprised by their energy. A lot of adrenaline pumping through their veins for the last 25 minutes.

Ball possession before Pogba Change 55%
After Pogba change 35%
After Bruno Change 16%

great subs
Fred & McTominay are not good enough on the ball, simple as that they are useful in big games but not against teams you should be beating, sub par players

We blew it tonight and can't have many complaints. If people still think the backine isn't a priority, poor goals and lack of risk. We will be pressed by better teams than that. Southampton were amazing for some reason, it's in our hands but will go down to the wire now.

In your closet, in your head!
I know Saints are the level of the fodder we've been spanking recently but we made them look like prime Barcelona in that second half. Was it tiredness? I'm extremely worried that we realised how close we were to 3rd and crawled into our shell hoping we could hold onto the 2-1.
I don't think we've actually shown that our possession game is good enough to handle opponents who can press well. We've dominated opponents who were fairly passive. We looked poor against Aston Villa when they pressed us for the initial 30-40 min, and they're not a good team at all. Expected Southampton to be a banana skin because of this.

I don’t know who they play next but I’ll be putting £20 on them losing because they worked like their lives were on the line tonight. They will be knackered.

Completely agree. But this is where we come up short. I tighten up every time our back four have the ball and start passing it around to each other. We don't look comfortable keeping the ball for long periods of time. Our biggest advantage is moving it to the attackers and letting them do something with it.

The last time I checked, soton played the same number of matches.

The fitness in this team is fecking horrific. Has been for years now.

The other team pressed ALL match long almost. We couldn't muster up anything.

Sir Alex Ferguson Stand
Lindelof was our best player tonight and it wasn’t even close. Martial missed a sitter and messed up another great chance all he had to was lay it off to Greenwood and it’s 3-1 but the selfish git decided it be better to hit it into row Z
He shouldn't have been letting their player anywhere near the ball, Vidic would've been putting his body on the line to prevent it, instead Lindelof got outmuscled by somehow near half his height.

If we ever win 7-0 there'll be three or four of us commenting, the hysterical schoolgirls will be tucked up in bed.
Oh get off your high horse. We blew an opportunity to get in the top 4 for the umpteenth time this season. We have the right to be annoyed & to question the players bottle.

Obviously annoyed we couldn't hold out but you can't say Southampton didn't deserve a point. We look so poor when pressed and it really shows up the limitations of some players on the ball.

There's no point singling out individuals - they were all awful except Martial.

Despite how poor he was, we out right collapsed when Pogba came off.

Don't think had anything to do with the defeat , we were poor when he was on and we were poor when he went off.

We were just not good enough tonight full stop. And with every point been so valuable now it could cost us dearly.

Agreed.
As a relative newcomer here, I’m a little baffled at the response when things don’t go as planned. The CAF goes insane.

I know that Southampton goal at the very end was a sickener, but that doesn’t mean Utd are now shit, or bottling it.What happened, in my view, is that some of our creative players were tired- eg Bruno, whose normally beautiful passes kept going awry tonight- same for Pogba. There have been some brilliant performances lately, but it can’t happen every time. These are still early days in the building of a new project- give it a bit of time. We should still get fourth, all things considered.

Thought we did well tbh, when so many are calling it a sucker punch in the match thread then its not like they had chance after chance and dominated us. A kind of freak goal combined with a lack of concentration and strength from our defenders.

I saw that tweet too. What do you think the sample size is ?
I've not seen any tweet. Purely anecdotal on my part. Just an observation that I've been preaching to friends. Happy to be proven wrong but it really feels that way.
