Just gutted. Getting bantered at work also not helping. Freaking hurts.Still not over the game this morning. When a draw feels like a loss
I hope the squad recovers from it better than the fans. There definitely seems to be a sense dread for the caf. It would also serve to give Leicester the pick me up they needed. Hence we really need to respond with some quality displays over the next few games.Still not over the game this morning. When a draw feels like a loss
Doubt from the fans is totally understandable because this team has never given us any reason to ultimately expect anything other than failure. The proof will be in the pudding, but based on historical data, my assumption is that we will feck this up.I hope the squad recovers from it better than the fans. I think that game will have killed the momentum we had. Not sure I can see us getting 3 points at Palace and I don't trust these players in a crunch game against Leicester. They love bottling it as soon as there's any pressure.
Well said. I don't think many of our so-called fans can deal with any anxiety as a football fan. They can only be happy if we win 4-0 and the other team never have a shot. Not much different from some of the supporters we have then first sign of difficulty post lockdown resumption you seem to have given up on the team , no matter which way you slice it we are favourites for top 4 despite this result just have some faith game against Leicester game would be inconsequential .
18Lads, Greenwood was anonymous today too. Which is expected for a 17 yr old.
It's easy to say you can beat the high press with one touch, but you need the players who can play one touch.Intensity seems to still be an issue for us at times. You can beat a high press with one touch football and good movement but we saw a lot of dwelling on the ball and getting caught out which gave Southampton something to chase.
I’m annoyed as anybody but we can’t win all our games, we have to drop points in some. As long as we use this as an opportunity to refocus and win our last 3 games we’ll be fine.
Put it this way, I’m glad we did this now instead of the last game of the season and didn’t finish in the top 4 due to it
If the ref had a pair of balls and goes down to The screen and looks at it , then he shows Romeu the red.I've been asking the same over and over. How is this not a red? How can VAR not go back and look at this and give a red? It was blatant and intentional.
We agree sir. I’m only looking for a reason why a red was not given as it was clear as day for me. Maybe the rolling on ground gave wrong signals. Maybe the Bruno penalty given (in my opinion) wrongly. And my point is that it isn't about what a ref feels or believes. These incidents happen very quickly. I don't blame the ref. I blame VAR for not looking at it one time and immediately calling for a red card. Would you rather the league was full of a bunch of Romeus or a Greenwood?
After yesterday's game I highly doubt we can win our next two.You really expect Leicester and Chelsea to not drop points?! The same teams that got battered by Bornemouth and Sheffield just the other day.
We just need to concentrate on winning the next 2 and see then what needs to be done on the last game - if anything at all.
He's quicker no doubt. Needs to get his head straight though and back to the quality he showed when Jose signed himWe conceded two today.
I maintain that Bailly is the better defender, especially when he gets a run of matches going. Just so much more assured and stronger than Lindelof.
Crunching tackles that should have resulted in a red.Gut-wrenching result. So close to staking a firm claim to third spot, ugh!
Last night felt like the honeymoon lockdown period was coming to and end. As good as we've been over the last few weeks - I've thoroughly enjoyed watching us - I've also felt that the new way of playing has been in our favour. Without the intensity of 'real' football, it seemed opposing teams we're standing off us, and that allowed our quality to shine through.
Yesterday was more like 'proper' football. Southampton were in our face from the get go, they were willing to making crunching tackles, and with neither the time nor the space, it seemed like our deeper players were getting caught on the ball far too frequently. Felt like it was back to the usual routine of every opponent raising their game for United.
Bruising encounter but no time to sit around licking our wounds. Two more games in a week that will play a huge part in shaping our season.
I don't even think the VAR told him about it. They said they "checked it" and deemed it to be fine.If the ref had a pair of balls and goes down to The screen and looks at it , then he shows Romeu the red.
Since when has that also been allowed? he didn't even get a yellow for it. He did a running forearm smash into Lindelofs face ffs!Crunching tackles that should have resulted in a red.
I have no idea what was going on in the VAR studio if they couldn't see that was deliberate and nasty. There was an elbow too. It's as if they want to level it each time a big club plays a small one.
Good points, tbf but... just wait until that other team that are otherwise a pile of shite until they are inspired to play out of their skins against us, West Ham. They’ll bust a gut to get a result while we fanny about like Arsenal. The result hurts like anything. Was feeling quite gutted and then decided to do some digging. Everyone has over-analysed everything already and blasting the team left and right. But there's a couple of things that I would like to point out:
1. Southampton has the 4th best away record this season. Only teams who have faired better while travelling are City, Liverpool, and Chelsea.
2. They beat City just last week at home as well - which means they are a quality side.
3. Our record against them in PL since 2013 is 5 Wins, 7 Draws, and 2 losses. So they are clearly a bogey team for us.
This was a banana peel for us from the start. So let's not be too hard on ourselves. This was a tough game and they weren't going to pushovers. A couple of mistakes defensively, and couple off missed opportunities - that's all it took.
But let's face it, we weren't going to keep on winning every single game. I guess its best to look past this and take it a little easy. Hopefully we respond strongly from this!
8 messages, so you are a proper newbie. WelcomeThis place blew up every time we have a bad result. Some of the so called fans here seem happier when we drop points. I really cant wrap my head around this.

People really need some sense of perspective. Utd are level with Leicester and a point off Chelsea, with a decent run in. 17 games unbeaten. A draw after a hard game where the team actually did enough to win is fair enough. Not much different from some of the supporters we have then first sign of difficulty post lockdown resumption you seem to have given up on the team , no matter which way you slice it we are favourites for top 4 despite this result just have some faith game against Leicester game would be inconsequential .
West Haaaam always try hard against us. It's nothing new and if we're honest they have greater quality than their position suggests.Good points, tbf but... just wait until that other team that are otherwise a pile of shite until they are inspired to play out of their skins against us, West Ham. Hope I’m wrong, obvs.
All pretty routine stuff and barely gets a mention but let us get the benefit of a 50/50 decision and the fecking world knows about it.I don't even think the VAR told him about it. They said they "checked it" and deemed it to be fine.
If they thought it was bad enough for the ref to check i'm sure he would have done.
We have to blame the man in charge of VAR that night (Phil mason, fat phil Mitchell)
Since when has that also been allowed? he didn't even get a yellow for it. He did a running forearm smash into Lindelofs face ffs!
It was ridiculous.
Totally agree mate but we could try trying hard against them too. Even better, put them down.West Haaaam always try hard against us. It's nothing new and if we're honest they have greater quality than their position suggests.
We can't expect anything other than hard games in the last 3.
I mean, if either of you seriously believed we were "totally in control" after the first 20 minutes then yeah, you were on the wrong channel. We were reduced to aimlessly hoofing it forward for the last 30 minutes or so, long before we went a man down. We had zero composure, couldn't string two passes together, and were basically just hanging on.Martial chipped the goalkeeper one on one against Sheffield United, really wasn’t that many games ago.
I appreciate you writing this, as that’s pretty much exactly the way I saw the game, but you come on hear afterwards & wonder if you were on the right channel.
If I had come on, we'd potentially have won that game. Not because I'm so great but because the events that unfolded last night would not have transpired. Literally any action other than the ones we saw yesterday would have changed the course of the game entirely. For better or for worse? That's just guesswork.Remember against Aston Villa when Martial looked really annoyed by getting subbed?
Well yesterday he didn't get subbed, If Ighalo would have come on for him after 75 minutes and held the ball up and did what he does best I'm convinced we'd have won that game.
