Sodium nitrateI have read something that a building with fertilizer was nearby.
I've heard whispers of munitions potentially being inside, you heard anything?.We don't even have enough ambulance/fire brigade/police etc. Wounded people helping wounded people get up or get to the hospital. Its insane.
These rumors are not true at all.I've heard whispers of munitions potentially being inside, you heard anything?.
I hope they aren't.These rumors are not true at all.
If we're seeing this video from so close presumably this person survived... and can that potentially mean that somehow the explosion "looks" worse than the impact it had on the people and structures in the area? Like in any way more debris that actual structural damage/collapses? Clutching at straws here...Tweet

You can see the "fireworks"? inside the building before the main explosion hit.
P.S: You may dread watching this video, but it isn't as bad as the rest.
Guessing most of these were live vids I’m afraid. If we're seeing this video from so close presumably this person survived... and can that potentially mean that somehow the explosion "looks" worse than the impact it had on the people and structures in the area? There's someone close by saying something in the last second.Guessing most of these were live vids I’m afraid.
Mate im gutted im away for season 5 . Wish i bought my console out here, we have wifi in the flat .We're all good mate, just talked with Niko and Marc. They say hi and, I quote, "cut that vacation early and come play".
That or an LNG tank in the harbor were my first guesses on the large explosion.I have read something that a building with fertilizer was nearby.
Yep.The white wave coming out of the explosion towards the city is not water, it's compressed air. Same as in the sonic booms of jet aircraft.
I find it hard to believe that's just fireworks. That's some very heavy ordnance shit that went off at once.
In Germany was it not? Enchede or something. Is it possible the mushroom cloud was water vapor?
Also, I seem to recall a massive fireworks factory that went up in recent memory, perhaps in China. Massive blast.
There's also the fertilizer plant in West, TX, that so massive it registered on the Richter scale. There was also a big blast along the coast of Texas when a gas plant went up.
Mushroom clouds are a rolling fireball of hot ionised air.Is it possible the mushroom cloud was water vapor?
Enschede is correct. That's in the Netherlands though. It was in 2000:In Germany was it not? Enchede or something.
To be clear, ammonium nitrate is primarily used as a fertilizer, but it is very unstable and can be used as an explosive, as in the Oklahoma City bombing or at mining quarries. This is what I've just been told who has been on the phone to family there - take this at face value please:
Basically, a fireworks factory was on fire on the port in Beirut, and there was a big supply of ammonium nitrate which is used for explosives in a warehouse. That substance explodes the second it feels heat so the first fire was from the factory, the second big explosion was from the nitrate
yeah they look like a fireworks display until the big boomYep.
I've seen fireworks factories going up before and they were nothing like that.
Netherlands, thats right.Enschede is correct. That's in the Netherlands though. It was in 2000:

That's what sent the West, TX, plant up.To be clear, ammonium nitrate is primarily used as a fertilizer, but it is very unstable and can be used as an explosive, as in the Oklahoma City bombing or at mining quarries.
This one still amazes me every time I see it. It looks like the sun is exploding or something. The one I was thinking occurred in Tianjin in 2015.
Turns out it is pretty stable, unless it is exposed to heat or other incendiary objects, like bits of fireworks, possibly. That's what sent the West, TX, plant up.
