Aside from Haaland they have every position covered by two dedicated first team players, even more if you consider that some of them can play more than one position. By Dortmund's standards that's a deep squad.
Ah, you're basing your points on the notion that they'd play a back-4 setup. From what I've seen, I don't think they're defensively good enough to play with a back 4 yet.

If that's their direction going forward, though, whilst they would have more than 1 option per position, I'm not so sure if the backup options would be good enough. I'm not confident about Piszczek as a CB in a back 4. Morey hasn't shown much as of yet whenever he came on as a sub last season.

They may have attacking depth, which I already acknowledged in my previous post, but they need better-quality defensive depth.

Agree that we lost ground at the end of SAFs tenure but I've always felt that he had a part in that, too, as he never seemed comfortable spending more than £25-30 million of a player. Were we really not able to pay £35m for Modric? IF he was sticking to the Glazer's orders and obfuscating with 'no value in the market' then perhaps he should have pushed a little harder for one or two players.
Lucas Moura's another good example of that. We were after him before he moved to PSG, yet we pulled away when PSG came in with a bigger offer.

Perhaps the biggest problem of playing a back 4 last season was that it put the right flank at the mercy of Hakimi's and Sancho's defensive contribution. With Meunier the setup should be more solid.
For it to become necessary to play Piszczek in a back four you would need at the very least three injuries between the CBs and Can/Witsel/Delaney, because otherwise Zagadou and Can will just step in. How likely is that to happen? And what club will loan you a player more reliable than Piszczek to cover that eventuality? Morey looked quite promising every time he played, I would say he earned his chance as 2nd choice RB, if he bombs and Meunier gets injured they still have Piszczek.
In a perfect world: sure, they would sign a fourth dedicated CB and maybe a second established RB, but with Dortmund's budget restrictions and Corona looming you can't eliminate every single risk.

No offers for Sarr as of yet, but I'm not surprised given that Watford want a good sum of money for him.
Didn’t they want silly money for Ighalo years ago and ended up losing him for next to nothing later on? Ironically I love Ighalo now but not sure he was ever worth 40 million plus. Admittedly I’ve not seen much of Sarr.

Unfortunately, Meunier isn't much better than Hakimi, defensively. His strengths lie in his attacking ability, which is why he played more for PSG when they played a back 3.

And yeah, ideally they'd loan in/sign another CB, but I've yet to see links between Dortmund and CBs even before COVID-19 hit.

Your rubbish at sarcasm. Just pointing that out.

And I've not mentioned Sancho in my comments about the Glazers.
Oh you were being sarcastic, hard to tell on the Internet, especially when I genuinely believe the glazers have impacted the club and don’t see it as outlandish at all.

Update: Arsenal have come to agreement with Lille on Gabriel (24 million Euros). They now await the player's choice.

So your serious? Sorry half the clowns on here who think it’s silly to hate the glazers got me questioning every response.

Feck me this transfer is getting boring, sign, don't sign but please shut up :annoyed: He better be worth it in the end.

That's the problem with transfer news nowadays. Because so many people want an update every day, hour, minute, etc., the news outlets continue to feed them the same info over and over again. Today, we've had a significant development with Lille having agreed a fee with Arsenal, but that's about it.

Ideal summer would be use our budget on Sancho.

Sell Perreira (£7m), Jones (£0), Smalling (£15m), Rojo (£0), Dalot (£20m) = £42m

If we can sell Lingard for £10m then so be it but the above players should be first to go.

Now, the question will be to Ole, what do you think is more important, a CB or CM.

If Cm then spend £35m on VDB
if Cb then we get someone for £30m

Would any of us be willing to give Lingard one more season as backup with Mata so we can get a CB?

Or are we willing to give Bailly and Tuanzebe one more season?
You cannot sell injured players. So forget selling Jones and Dalot.

Sometimes i wish there was some sort of NBA regulation where you cannot talk about trades and players without getting fined. There would still be some rags shit talking but it would cut out a lot of the noise.

What is the purpose of the NBA rumour blackout? It sounds great but I’m sure not why they’d impose something like that. It’s a big part of the sports journalism industry.

I’d take a gamble on Umtiti at a loooooooow price, even with dodgy knees

The contract structure is completely different and a bit more complex. But basically i think it is to avoid super teams hogging all the talents. You have incentives to stay in the franchise that drafted you and you have a lot more to lose (millions of dollars) if you try to leave (before the fourth year i think). Officials, staff and players are forbidden to talk about trades in public or you get called for tampering and fined. But yeah this would never be applicable in football with its free movement rules.

Not when you already have 3 injury prone cb s
Well I guess I’m assuming we will dump them all this summer (maybe not Bailly)!

It’s a sorry state of affairs that I’d rather have a corona’d up centre back with no knees than Jones or Rojo

Both have been better for us than Bailly.
