Ive had nothing but good interactions with police whenever I’ve been to places in Europe (admittedly I’ve never been to Greece).

Still find it weird after you've read what they are claiming you seem to be willing to throw Maguire to the dirt and take their story as legit, never mind how ridiculous the whole court procedure has been.

Its comedy.

If you take the what they say as true them you must take the story about his sister as true as well. Hard to see what he done wrong then if that was true.

I'm not a legal expert, but isn't it a bit strange how quickly the charges were brought to trial, trial conducted and judgement made?

Are we sure due process and justice has been served?
The way all of this has happened would be considered corrupt as feck most places, even if the person was guilty of the crime accused. If it happened like Maguire's legal team have said it did, they should appeal via every avenue possible.

On a long road that returns to Old Trafford!!!
Trial sounds so dodgy in fairness. Sister gets injected, naturally Maguire and his brother etc freak out, plain clothes police come up and the rest is history. His lawyer apparently only got the full list of charges two hours prior trial.

Maguire and co clearly handled this appallingly, however I would be incredibly surprised if due process has been served. Either way, fine (bigger than the bribe) incoming and a line drawn underneath it.
The entire process is dodgy as hell. The incident happened on Friday and the trial is completed on Tuesday. Thats 2 working days. There obviously wasnt enough time for the Defence to prepare its case.

That was quick. All sounds too crappy. Hopefully a suspended sentence and we can move on while they appeal.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
I dont, feel free to educate me. Do we think the police are lying?
It’s entirely possible they are. Why is that so hard to believe? We have two police officers word against Maguire who is claiming they hit him. According to the defence there is video showing Maguire being mistreated at the station. The request to delay for this evidence to be reviewed was rejected. The defence were only told two hours before the hearing what the charges were that they were defending against. The entire thing sounds like a bit of a sham.

Exactly. All we heard from was the police. What about people in the bar who were saying what had happened.

Waiting for all the greek lawyers to come out the woodwork now

Some of you lot obviously haven't been around when this was a common occurence for footballers.

Even on the off chance Harry does go into prison, he will be in the illustrious company of Cantona, Tony Adams, Pennant and a bunch of others I can't even remember. Gazza must have spent a few days in the slammer at one point or other.

That’s the default position in this thread it seems. It’s been a bit weird seeing people in here deny any possibility of wrongdoing from Maguire and convincing themselves this was 100% Greek police scheming for a quick pay day. Even now, I doubt we’ll see any acknowledgement that it’s possible he’s not completely innocent. Yet we judged Liverpool fans for blindly sticking by Suarez :wenger:

Well yeah, but it’s not the early 90s anymore.

BBC article said his sister was injected with an unknown substance by a group of men that caused her to faint. They then arranged for transport to a hospital and were instead taken to the police. I can understand Maguire freaking out about what his sister was injected with and losing his composure if that's really what happened.
To add to this, it seems that the Court didnt even wait for the medical report of Maguire's sister to be brought on record.

Are you comparing Suarez racially abusing one of our players, to this? Fecking hell.

Have we? Assualting and bribing police is kind of a big deal.
By the letter of the law just touching a police person can count as "assault".

Assault doesn't have to be leaving someone in tatters at the bottom of some stairs.

Boozed up, you are also capable of saying some nonsense.

Am sure any decent lawyers will get him out of this with the right "fine", ironically a legal bribe!

- The court also heard that Maguire said 'f*** the police both inside and outside the station.

I think we can all agree this is quite clearly a setup and lies. I don’t think HM listens to N.W.A. or has a record in 26 years of acting like this.

- Today, Maguire's lawyer claimed in court that the footballer's sister Daisy was injected with a date rape drug by two mysterious Albanian men outside the bar the defendants were at.

Many people would be a lot more than slightly aggressive if plain clothed men tried arresting you after this just happened to your sister.

If what the media saying about Maguire is true , which I highly doubtful because when do the media ever tell us the truth. ? Harry a right cnut coming out with the " don't you know who I am" I simply refuse to believe it
If he was pissed anything is possible.

This is just such a horrific look. As a club, we’d been fantastic throughout this pandemic, and then our club captain goes and does this.

Question the veracity of the Greek judicial system all you please, it doesn’t make this any less scandalous from Maguire.

Cantona kicked a fan, Giggs shagged his brother's wife, ... I am sure we can find stuff. I don't believe this bribery stuff.
Two got accused of rape. Blackmore and Evans, even though they didn't they were obviously not behaving the way Manchester United footballers should. Rojo was a naughty lad at a party. There is plenty of previous. Yet Harry is the devil incarnate.

Have to laugh at how pathetic the Greek media and our own press are in treating Harry. More is being said of his actions, then those of the actual lowlifes that had sinister intentions when they tried to drug Daisy with the metal straw, causing her to faint. (God knows what would of happened to her if Harry hadn't of clocked on to what had happened).

Dearie me. Sensitive much? When did I normalise violence?

These legal issues happen all the time. Its rare that you would serve jail time for them.

I'd wager Harry will be fine.
When?

He will get a slap on the wrist, a fine and community service.

Some of yous haven't been out on the lash much
You’re literally claiming this to be something that would occur if you went out on the lash regularly, leading to a simple slap on the wrist etc.. You couldn’t normalise the aggravated assault and bribery more if you tried.

I mean I know you’re saying it mostly in jest, or at least I hope , but I don’t think it’s right to play it down as a nothingness/every night on the lash occurrence.

The charges are serious, and should be treated as such. It may well be that something dodgy is at play here, but we have to take the guilty verdict right now and he has to be punished by the club accordingly, until any other evidence/developments arise. When/if they do then he can be handed back captaincy etc.

But until that moment, as a club, they can’t disrespect the judicial system of another country and effectively accuse them of lying by not punishing Maguire as if he is 100% guilty.

Not really helping Greece get it's tourism back on track ?

Particularly rich celebrity types who will seriously think twice about travelling there now - even if he's guilty

I still think Utd have been bloody stupid allowing a player to travel and publicly socialise in a high infection country
