Sorry but you don't establish that he fought the cops and bribed them based on a 1 day trial with NO evidence.

Its an absolute joke.
Evidently it's not a joke. It's a very serious issue. A court found him guilty. you can make up as much 'corrupt' deflection as you like, doesn't change the fact that Maguire has fcuked up big time.

We as a club are screwed because we paid £80m so we can hardly sack him, and quickly need to rehabilitate his confidence to make him perform.
But on a personal level, I'm not going to back a drunk who fight cops and now been handed a prison sentence just because he plays for my club. No thanks.

Needs to be transfer listed immediately. Not that anyone else would be stupid enough to buy him . A total disgrace to the shirt. Disgusting behaviour from him
I mean, not wanting to engage in whataboutism, but you’d presumably have wanted Eric sacked for the Selhurst Park incident; Rio sacked for the missed drugs test; Fellaini sacked for drink driving.

He’s a silly boy for getting into this situation, but we don’t know the facts. In this country it takes weeks or months to bring a court case which would result in a custodial sentence.

It's not about the verdict or this case at all, to be honest (which you've so far failed to understand in your replies to others). It's about you implying getting into trouble with the police is a completely normal occurrence on a night out.
Contrary to your sheltered life, plenty of people get in trouble like Maguire did.

Plenty of people also just get a slap on the wrist and are told to go home. Just like Maguire did.

Its making a mountain out of a molehill.

So lets say he travels back to England, then makes a statement telling them to shove their fine up their arses, and donates the sum to a charity for laughs and giggles.

What could Greece do considering he's back on English soil.
Also, if I were United, I'd come out and call the likes of Henry Winter a cnut, confirm Maguire will stay as captain and tell him not to bother coming to OT anymore

I haven't really followed this but is there a reason everyone is saying the Greek police involvee are corrupt or is it purely conjecture?

I'm definitely in the camp that agree with the sentiment that the English abroad are generally an embarrassment of boozed up brainless twats. But this whole thing doesn't reflect that badly on Harry, certainly doesn't reflect badly on the club.

Lots of spineless pearl clutching going on on the back of a 1 day sham trial. Losing his captaincy... issuing apologies... give me strength

The only thing Winter is right about is he should have employed a bodyguard and chosen his holiday location more carefully.

Feet up at home.
I am pretty surprised at how many fans on here want him nailed up for what appears to be a very very dodgy accusation.

He wasn't that bad last season ffs.

And if you do want him sacked the 80m ain't coming back anyway.

Gonna step away from this thread now as some of it reads as if it should be on Bluemoon.

If the Albanian drug injection story is true, it cant be the first time its happened, and if you did your proper due diligence, you would be able to find out the same.
Not if the local police are in their pocket (which they often are in small places where organized crime is present) and don't want any of this information coming to light.

Sounds far fetched, perhaps, but seems to be supported by the police: a) not getting medical attention for his sister b) not apprehending any of the others involved in the affray c) the incredible speed of the trial process and d) the fait accommpli discovery process presented to the defence.

Sometimes it depends on who the policemen are. Some laugh things off and calm things down, some want the arrest figures no matter what.

Fair play to him for appealing out of principal when he could've let himself get fecked and moved on.

Well done Harry.
He has to appeal to protect his image. He will lose the appeal, but he'll have British media and some fans to say Greece is corrupt and out Harry is innocent.

Think he has already home. It was that serious they let him out of the country.

I agree with every word that Winter says. So what now?
His sisters misfortune has nothing to do with him fighting with cops and trying to bribe them.
This is it. Both alleged incidents occured at different locations too.

On what happens now, I think he gets stripped of the captaincy and dropped from the England squad for the next round of fixtures and leave it at that.

The police's side of the story sounds dubious, but from everything we've heard it also sounds like Maguire and co are not completely innocent here.

I really hope we back him and don't strip him of the captaincy until the appeal is heard. I'm not saying he's an angel but what court has the case heard, verdict given and sentencing passed in an afternoon while giving the defence 2 hours to prepare for charges including assault and bribery.

If on appeal he's found guilty then the club can take action then, but for now there's something clearly dodgy going on.

I'd wait for the appeal and further legal action before jumping to a conclusion that a court found someone "guilty" in a 1 day trial with literally no evidence presented.

Nonetheless, Im happy that Harry is safe and back at home. Move on with bigger and better things. I'm sure Harry will be fine as he is the consumate professional.

Plenty of footballers have been through worse (including our own players) and have come through just fine. Too much sensationalism.

If the thing about his sister is true then I have sympathy with him. However the charges are to do with his interaction with the police and so have nothing to do with the 'stabbing' on his sister. The court case did seem very short and obvisouly the defence didn't have enough time to prepare, so of course he should appeal, but I do feel that he is at least in some way guilty of the charges.

Which begs the question why the hell did he go there in the first place. And once there, why was he drunk and out on the town, and within the vicinity of nefarious gangsters? I don't Maguire is innocent or devoid of very bad choices in any angle of this incident.
I think if you do deep due diligence on every possible tourist destination you will most certainly find crime and such schemes everywhere. Including Manchester. Probably best for him not to leave his house at all. Ever. Only wait for a club vehicle to pick him up to go to training and to matches.

Not saying that I believe the story or Maguire's version.

His lawyer asked to delay the trial because they didn’t even tell him what they were charging Harry with until 2 hours before the trial. Harry has been stitched up here, the Greek justice system is a joke.

I like to go on the other forums from time to time to see what some of the enemy think. The shedend (Chelsea) has 8 posts on this topic. Bluemoon however has slightly more........105 pages!

Winter isn’t right. He’s saying he should apologise for crimes he refuses took place and is now appealing against because he didn’t take a bodyguard with him on holiday. It’s one of the most illogical tweets I’ve ever seen.
Correct. You can’t admit guilt and still appeal.

Anyway, onto something that actually matters, who’s going to be the first to come up with a chant about him beating up Greek police?

I've lived in the states for a period of time and some of the police over there are just downright scary.

If you bump into the wrong one he can literally ruin your life in an instance.

We're lucky to have a somewhat better police force in the UK.

My take is that Maguire is not a bad un but he did show a serious lack of judgment by going out on the piss in a place like that (even before the altercation with “gangsters” and police). Let’s see how he reacts - hopefully like Cantona or Ben Stokes.

We should be focusing on coming up with a good chant about this whole thing.
