We would have been stuck with him for 3-5 years, not a cheap punt at all. It was a terrible thought.
10/15 million would've been a cheap punt in a time where we were lacking in goals.

As I said, the moment Bournemouth raised the fee,we walked away.

For what 6 months? 10-15m for 6 months then we would be looking at someone a lot better? Plus wages for 3 years +

Messi to city
Thiago to Liverpool
Everyone to chelsea
Arsenal even making signings.
What a horrible transfer window this is
I’ve given up hoping for good transfer windows.
Even when we spend £80 odd million on a player it goes wrong

If Messi joins City and Thiago joins Liverpool then Utd will have to do something big or the backlash against Woodward and the Glazers is going to be biblical.

Personally I'd take no transfers at all and a season of mediocrity if it meant they'd sell up and leave though. It would be worth the anguish.
That's the thing, it won't

As soon as fans go back, bums will be in seats. TV Sets will be turned on. They'll simply carry on.

I genuinely believe there wouldn't be any great movement - on the scale where it makes front page news and stops people attending matches - to remove the Glazers (and ultimately therefore Woodward) unless we got relegated. But they'll always invest enough to keep us in the top half of the league. They simply won't push it that extra mile to make the team great.

It might affect future sponsorship deals, we will need a shirt sponsor soon and if we are on downturn they might not get what they want.

What’s the logic of having a +1 extension that can be triggered by either side? May as well just have a 2 year contract?

If neither wanted to continue after the first year you’d just mutually cancel it?

If only our bench was stronger I would have been content with no first xi signing this summer because of covid. But we simply need rotation options because our bench is almost relegation quality. Without a stronger bench I don't think top 4 finish will be possible because of how injury prone some of our players are.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but the most injury prone player in the starting XI is Shaw, and we have good cover for him.

Probably has to do with salary obligations if it doesn't work out. Even if both agreed he's better off finding another club, Chelsea would still have to compensate him for lost salary as he leaves.

Leverkusen and Manchester United continue negotiations for Benoît Badiashile. Listening, Monaco could decide to keep its defender, who likes Niko Kovac a lot. Meeting between Oleg Petrov and the player's advisers scheduled for next week

We should rename this thread "Meltdown City" or something similar, as the meltdown, whinging, moaning and crying is quite spectacular.

Even making up imaginary signings! haha!

If the rumours are true about us not having alot of money to spend then this Window has us to get in Bale as panic buy or loan written all over it.

Our fans are going to have to force them to sell as I don't see anyone coming in and making them an offer they can't refuse. Our fans need to drive the share price down and the value of the club by staying away from the ground. It's the only way we will ever get rid of them and the debt.

What? How is that your explanation?

If they both agree he’s better off finding another club then they just don’t activate the +1

It won't and I guarantee you that. You'll be called a glory hunter and what not. "Just don't go to the game if you don't agree with the club" etc. We've heard it before.

Its not like the yankees are inline with our “tradition, soul and principles.” They are leeches, here to suck United dry
At least they're not bloodthirsty regime that tramples civil rights for breakfast where the ruler has the absolute dominion over ones life and death.

Yeah unfortunately you are right about the happy clapping day trippers not willing to stop buying merchandise for the good of this club
That is probably the only true way to hurt them and make them reconsider about selling the club.

The unfortunate reality is what other kind of ownership is out there with the kind of money to buy the club
There are bunch of good business models and filthy rich tycoons that love the club the way that Roman loves Chelsea. But UTD makes good money for the glazers so they won't sell unless a really outrageous offer comes in.

I stopped going about 5 years ago. We had 3 Season tickets myself, my dad and my brother for over 20 years. That then became 2 and we shared 2 between 3 of us. That's now down to just 1 and its mainly my brother who uses it.

The club is finished as a serious elite club that wins titles. 1.2bn spent in last 7 years and we can't even muster a single title challenge. That's when you know its just not working.

If our fans continue to feed the Glazers they will keep taking the cash. I can't bring myself to give them another penny.

Source close to Monaco says "Benoit will stay unless Manchester makes an irrefusable offer like Martial" Leverkusen are looking to get back in charge for the defender!

I think everyone is losing patience at this point with the owners and Woodward. First signs of genuine improvement and now they aren’t going to invest to continue it. Obviously we aren’t at that stage until the window is over.

I do think a lot more will start to get pissed if we feck up this summer. Early signs suggest we are going that way - loads can change though.

Sounds like they will sell if we pay up. Once again we’re offering well below the asking price it seems. I suppose transfers like him and Sancho where we don’t want to get mugged off could happen right at the end of the window.

Monaco fans don't rate this guy, apparently good on the ball but extremely error prone. Quite a few of their fans said they'd sell for 15-20m no problem.

The only thing this might do if it was true would finally push our inept board to finally pull the trigger on Sancho, while we are it go and get Jack and a CB as well though.
Or, imagine if City get Messi and Koulibaly and we end up with no-one...

The asking price seems ridiculous.

The fact it ends with Leverkusen looking to “get back in charge” suggests we’re being subject to our usual tax. No way are Leverkusen going to offer more money than us.
Depends how much of their Havertz fee their willing to spend on him

Such a random signing for Juventus. He's decent but mostly average, so on the same level as Matuidi, Can, Bernardeschi and all their midfielders.

The Badiashile tweets have given me a bit of a thrill anyway. At least it’s a rumour about United and an actual player. I had forgotten what that felt like. The fact that I never heard of the player before is completely irrelevant. Let’s break the bank to sign this guy

Sorry to kill the thrill but United sending bids for Badiashile means we're not negotiating for Sancho.
