The only reason for the renewal was getting a better price for him I guess.
It's possible but given the release clause kicks in next summer and not immediately, it seems they were planning on keeping him one more year. I imagine they would sell if a good enough offer was made, but it would likely be 50m+. Not impossible but as I say Ogden isn't as good as he once was so I'll wait to hear from better sources.

Well if all the different reports are true (they never are) we are in for an extremely busy remaining window. At the minimum we will get one in (VDB) and 1-2 out (Periera / Lingard). But possible that we also have one CB and RW also in (can't see space for a ST in our transfer plans) and us letting go of 1-2 CBs too.

Sancho, VdB and Upemecano would be the best window in a very long time.
Pulling off one of Sancho or Upa would be an incredible (and expensive) coup, Don't see us having the money and ambition to go for both realistically unless we're about to sell some players for very decent figures.

I agree with you. But my inner muppet just wants to dream a little longer.

Three high quality signings all in the right age bracket added to a squad which already showed sparks of attacking excellence last season.

Add Bailly and we are good. Now to find 4 stupid enough clubs to take them.
There seem to be plenty of takers for Chris, Rojo is wanted in Argentina, but nobody wants to pay. Jones? Is he actually fit? Not sure he would risk getting rid of Bailly or we would be short again.

Ogden is clueless. Dayot just signed a new contract means the new contract has no release clause can be activated until next year and it also means that the player decided to commit his future for another year with RB Leipzig for another year.

I'm sure he is available at the right price.

Now Woodward is talking... Upamecano would be an excellent signing. Although we will need to sell Smalling and preferably one more CB at least, maybe even two more

Guess Werner also overrated
Maybe?
Or maybe Chelsea were the only one to meet the release clause?
Bayern weren't interested at that price, Liverpool weren't, something to do with price.
Thiagos lower in cost yet supposedly the best in the world in his position according to some on here...yet no one is biting Munich's hand off for him...strange.

Ogden is aware of this, if you read the article.

Pretty sure it’s a brief and Eddie’s up to his nonsense again. Fingers crossed though.

And with Thiago, I reckon it’s his contract more than anything else. His injury record isn’t that great either.

With Thiago all the rumours have been about Liverpool, maybe everyone thought it was a sure thing that he was going there. Now it looks like Liverpool won't cough up the money others might have a look.

Case and point, as we know Liverpool were very interested in the player.
We also know they are also very interested in Thiago. We also know as Klopp has mentioned that they don't have much funds to spend this summer

I find all the talk of Smalling being moved on very strange. Obviously depending on his plans and wants.

Surely it’d make more sense to keep him as a back-up, or even a starter if we don’t sign anyone. Is he any worse than Lindelof??

He’s just played a full season at a top 6 side in Italy with CL experience.

My preference would be to keep him and move on Jones, Rojo and probably Bailly based on his injury record.

A bit of a stop gap to look at Dayot next summer and based on the fact that we clearly are not going to spend £200m+ this summer

Smalling has got used to being a starter again. Doubt he will want to go back to the occasional game from the bench.

Ole wanted to keep him last season as backup to Lindelof and Maguire. He wanted regular first team football so he left. I think it will be the same this season.
