Biden is struggling to communicate a very simple message in that clip.

I think it's fair to think he would struggle in a debate with Trump.
The clip is in the totality of his remarks. If you watch the entire thing you would probably have a different view on things. You could just as easily siphon out a clip of Trump slurring and say he would struggle in a proper debate.

They’re both not completely there mentally but I think Trump is actually worse and in a live debate without a prompter Biden would come on top.

It's a 19 second clip from a 23 minute speech where he was otherwise coherent. For Trump it'd be the other way around.

He basically said it like it is - The Russians set up their own false flags among BLM people 4 years ago to divide people and they're using social media, regular media, etc to use the same tactics as before, a part of which involves people on the political fringes casting doubt that its even happening.
I told someone today that most empires weren't destroyed from outside, but from within. It's the strategy being used by Russia and I think they're succeeding.

I don't think he'll struggle against a guy who thinks World War 2 ended in 1917 because of a pandemic.

You mean the same guy who thought the Revolutionary armies captured the airports? How could he possibly struggle with someone like Biden..

Debates don't matter in such a divided society as America now.

Voter enthusiasm/suppression and the economy will decide who wins.

Trump is currently winning because of voter suppression and UBI.

Was just reading an article about the latest attack on a leading Putin critic and the attacks deployed by Putin backed police and goon squads going into cities to attack protestors. It's not because it's Russia specifically but when you read things like that you never assumed the day would come when it would arrive in American streets. You read any article about authoritarian regimes doing similar things and every time there are direct parallels to the state of the country now. Wouldn't be surprised if more violent confrontations magically happen in more swing states between now and November.

We have a president whose sole goal is to sow divisions and stoke fears amongst his own population and is now basically openly supporting the continued escalation of conflict and we have people cheering it on. Feel like we re all on repeat in this thread. Maybe I should take the Eboue approach and just say feck it all.

What do you mean? Universal basic Income?

My brother, who lives in NYC, sent me a message "I'm voting Trump" (joking, as he can't vote yet) with a picture attached.

The picture is of a USD $2400 check. "Economic payment impact, president Donald trump"

Between him and his wife, they make over 200k per year, so I wonder why the feck they received that check. (My first thought was some kind of UBI trial)

Your brother seems to be a capitalist pig. But never fear, he will vote Biden because there is no difference between candidates

Maybe him or his wife file separate returns and one of them makes less than 75k/yr.

Trump signing those UBI checks is a simple but effective masterstroke.

Yes, it can be something related to that. They make almost the same each, but I remember they tried to do their tax papers by themselves the first time, and they fecked up somehow. Some accountant/lawyer from the company had to fix it for them.

Meh... he'll get out gunned pretty fast.

Hillary was as knowledgeable as any other politician, a real lawyer to boot. Yet she got her ass handed to her on a silver plater by a bigot bully who's circling her like a predator while looking high on coke. Trump spouted too much shit she cant handle it other than "pls... factcheck it guys". She doesnt have the guts to tell him to shut up, he got her on the defensive since the first minute.

Biden is too weak, too soft, all he practically does is let trump self destruct. While it's good not to stop your opponent when they're making a mistake the moment trump got any momentum he can exploit biden dont have things to fall to.

What the feck is his policy other than he's not trump. Other than Trump's so bad any other candidate is better.

The way i see it. You can put kanye west or rich bryan as the dnc candidate and trump would still get the same amount of vote.

This has been a Trump's crusade. Biden has nothing to do with it. It'll be a trump success or fail. If he lost it's due to him slipping up.

This makes it seem like you ve neither read his platform or plans he released over the past months and also not seen him speak in debates or respond to hecklers. While I also worry about his mental state, the last thing he s gonna do is roll over. Can say what you want about the man, but he does have fangs. Question is - is he going to be able to keep his tough guy demeanor under control when faced with the ultimate bully.

I think one of the tactics he's already adopted in a few interviews I've seen is to laugh at the ridiculousness of the claims and then pivot in a very serious way into reality.

He does it quite well when confronted with Trump's nonsense, he ridicules it with laughter and then paints a serious reality. He knows he can't take Trump in a slanging match, but also knows that Trump has a fragile ego, by acting like he thinks Trump is a clown will rile him and then he can act in all presidential with his own ideas.

I'm quite looking forward to the debates

I think the debates should be skipped if possible.

He should've said: you know covid? I know more than anyone about covid, but covid this year, this year was great btw, great numbers, jobs, more than any jobs than any president before, but covid, it has taken lives and I know lives, many lives, I make them better. Great again you know? And in the last 100 years. And you know it's been said that Ive done more for the US than anyone in the last 100 years, but these 100 years and Sleepy Joe wont tell you this, but there couldve been many more lives if I hadnt closed the borders with China, but still in 100 years.. Many lives! I take no responsibilty, but many lives!

Too bad he's not as eloquent and consice as Trump.

Pretty much indeed.
Fkin shit show of a country these days and yet a sizeable portion believes its gotten better I guess?..
Its getting worse.

I suspect that if this trajectory of decline continues it won't be too long before they start sending out possies to round up the commies. Or has that already begun.

Return of the wild west. No amount of good old apple pie can change how the rest of the world sees this disaster of a country. As long as they have guns this will never change. Yeah they have some good sides to their culture but for me the shine has gone and there's about half a dozen other countries I'd rather visit than the USA.

For a while now the educated east and west coastal regions have moved politically further away from the white american middle classes of the central regions . Maybe at some point certain states will choose to be less United and seek independence.

Its not a masterstroke. It’s deceitful, borderline illegal and only meaningful to truly stupid people.

It’s not how you run a country. It’s neither big nor clever.

He’s falling into Trump’s traps here and getting Biden to produce a bunch of sound bites which will lose him progressive support. It’s win-win for Trump, some conservatives will believe him and be put off Biden thinking he’s too far left, some of the left will believe Biden and think he’s too far right.

Agree. The Biden campaign seems to be trying the same strategy as Clinton in 2016 but hoping it's different this time.

I don't think any progressive who was intending to vote for Biden would suddenly not do so based on fracking. If a progressive was going to vote for him, they will probably wind up doing so irrespective of anything that happens between now and November.

Some will purely on fracking, others will on Police policy, others on Military, others will draw the line at any combination of these. Trump is gradually getting him to commit to a lot of things progressives will turn their nose up at, I don’t agree if you think that’s not going to have any measurable impact on progressive support for him.

Fortunately for Biden, there are a lot more votes to be gained in the middle than on the left, so losing a few Green Party stragglers would be offset by gaining plenty of normal people in the middle pining for a return to sane governance.

A bit confused by your wording here, do you not consider those on the left "normal" people ?
