You can't seriously blame the club for this one. I mean would you have accepted those terms if you were in charge? A buy back clause? I'm glad we aren't suckers to accommodate and develop Reguilon for the next 2 years, essentially a loan deal so Madrid can swoop in 2 years later and take him back.
If the buyback is say 50m and we buy him for 30, I don't issue with that. We'd be profiting from him in the team and from the transfer. He'll be a fantastic player for Spurs so I hope United have another option in mind.

Somebody asked him earlier 'to Spurs' and he replied 'Man Utd'. Its been posted on this thread already.

He's back tracking a lot now. He's a fraud when it comes to United news and PL news. He needs to stick to what he knows. Serie A
He has always been a fraud.

He is a 29 year old who is a twitter muppet.

Why would he have any sources?

At least, di Marzio knows all the agents in Italian football.

So are Juventus. They signed Morata on identical terms and got to a CL final with him.

We need to get over ourselves a bit. We’re massive, no denying, but we haven’t been at the very top from a pure footballing perspective for a while. Unless we’re going to sign an alternative of similar quality, this is an opportunity lost.
Juventus are literally the racoons of the footballing world. Ronaldo and De Ligt might have blurred some peoples memories but Juve are never happier than when they're digging around in the bottom of a bin somewhere, looking for the other half of somebodies discarded sandwich.

Any United fan who moans about the club refusing to accept a buy back clause in a transfer needs to give their head a wobble.

Going to Mourinho as well which more than likely will be over within two years and that is being nice about it given the Everton game where it looked like some of the players have downed the tools already.

Let's spurs have him. We don't need to waste time developing players for Madrid.

I wonder how often he will even play at Spurs. They've been playing their right back very high under Mourinho, first with Aurier and now with Doherty and the left back fairly reserved.

I haven't watched him other than our game vs Sevilla but if he's not great defensively as many have said, I wonder how that balance will work under Mourinho at Spurs.

Why are people mad? If Spurs are happy to bend over and be a feeder club then let them. I'm glad we have stood firm and rejected the buy back clause.
Because they have learned nothing about signing players that don't really want to be here. They'd probably be mad if PSG offered di Maria to us and we turned it down.

I’d take him for a season solely to back up Shaw. I never want to see Williams at left back again. He’s diabolical there.

Pretty stupid from Spurs.

They accept the risk of him flopping and being a poor signing but don't get the potential upside of him being really good and staying with them for years. What's the point? All risk, no potential reward.
Even if he flops, with his success at Sevilla - I think they'll get at least 20m for him from Spain. It's a pretty safe bet for Spurs.

There's a clear reward. You get a quality player for a few years for a low fee. it's almost like a loan deal where you potentially keep the player and profit from him.

Yeah if they weren't willing to budge on the buyback clause then we have done the right thing

If he wants to go to Real in the future - what is the Point of signing him. Risk losing Williams or Shaw for a player who might be gone in 2 years ?

Nah unless he makes it clear that he sees O.T as his future, we should stay clear. This is exactly what got us into this mess in the first place

Yeah, you're right. We shouldn't have signed Ronaldo.
Exactly. People getting worried about something that could occur 3 seasons away. If Real wanted him back it meant we get a decent amount of money and he's probably played well for 3 years too. Get over the clause.

Any Latin/Spanish player would feel the same. Herrera or De Gea may have wanted the same but they loved the experience enough to stay or want to stay. We're the ones that missed out on an opportunity to integrate a good player into our club.

We didn't believe in ourselves enough to have a player that could leave if he wanted to. Says it all about our ambitions.

We wouldn’t lose either Shaw or Williams. Williams is a right back.

They won't.

Sevilla can buy similar quality leftbacks for €10m and they are the 4th best team in that league.

No Aston Villas with sugar daddy owners to splurge.

100% with the club on this one.

Why we'd ant want to develop a player so Madrid can have him back in a year or two is beyond me. Better off looking elsewhere at Telles.

For his sake though, I'd be questioning whether I'd want to play as a 3rd CB for Spurs. Which is 100% where he will play with Spurs full back game plan.
I suspect it’s down to Ole rather than the club per se, he’d rather have a hole than an arsehole, not saying this guy is an arsehole but if his ambition isn’t United then move on.

The problem is he’s been deified by all these fools on Twitter and has about 2m followers so he has to make these statements. Nobody would give a feck if he was tweeting who Genoa are signing. He obviously loves the attention too.

As I’ve said previously — it’s an unforgiving place on the twitter sphere for these people. Di Marzio was the cock of the walk 3 or 4 years ago until he made a few too brave predictions (I think it was the Fabinho one) and people stopped paying attention and now I only ever see him talk about Italian football. Romano may end up suffering a similar fate.

Again, what's the problem with having a buy back clause ? The false pride doesn't do us any favors. What we need is a competent option to cover Shaw. Are you really expecting all players to stay long here?

It was such a good deal for one of the best full backs .

Sadly there's a big inferiority complex at play over possibly being poached in the future anytime we get linked to certain foreign players

Di marzio at least has sources.

Zero evidence that Romano has any.

All he does is read other people's twitters, and is good at knowing which stories to jump on and say "here we go".

I mean, sure. That’s a totally fair response to hold. I definitely see the logic in it. But I just think there are times when you should swallow your pride a little for the short term for long term benefits.

In any case, also, if you’re happy with us pulling out of Reguilon, I‘d expect to see you then not complain at any point when Shaw’s out injured and Brandon Williams plays an extended period of football at LB.

And they lost him to Madrid not long after against the players wishes and it didnt matter, he had to go. That was the same summer Pogba wanted a move and the heart was ripped out of that club in one transfer window.
Id maybe understand if we were short in that area but feck me we arent. Not to the extent we get bent over like this.

Agreed. I would have liked to have signed him but not at the expense of having a buy back clause or anything included.

If Spurs have agreed to that so be it, move on.

I guess that’s where we disagree most, then. Our starting LB (who I do rate in terms of actual ability) has managed 25+ PL matches 1 time in the 6 seasons he’s been here. I don’t rate his back-up at all.

But we're building a squad with ambition to challenge for titles in coming years. You simply can't so that while losing key players. So we get the guy, integrate him in our team, he becomes an integral part of the team and key to the way we play then Real Madrid swoops in and take him, that's us back in the market looking for a replacement which as proven is always hard. We don't need the money that his potential buy back clause money would bring, we need an integral player to be part of what we're building.

We simply can't be building a squad and planning to challenge for titles in the next year or two while we start by already setting ourselves for set backs in a year or 2 by losing a key player.

Romano certainly has his sources but the more popular you get, the more likely disinformation is given to you.

If I was a club or agent I'd play games with people like that.

Yeh 50m would be something to negotiate for. Anything less than 45m would be stupid for a player you've just signed for around 35m
