If Twitter was around in 1997, a similar rabble of gimps would've been shouting into the void about Barker getting the gig based on her gender.

As I've said in other threads, it's bemusing to watch people angrily branding others as racist when they presume that 'positive action' is at work. But fail to criticise positive action, which is also clearly racist, with the same vigour.

If you were genuinely against racism, you'd be angry at the fact that these twitter loons (given their opinion appears so important to many) even have this ammunition.

She didn't turn me down. A group of us recognised her in the airport and she just gave us the cold shoulder which was uncalled for.
Yeah, she’s the weird one for not responding to a group of strangers.

In a world where these has been clear discrimination against minorities, it’s deeply disingenuous to demand equal rights when some corrective action is taken to balance the scales, and provide inspirational role models and pathways for others to follow. This is especially true after the global kumbaya inspired by the BLM protest.

In this case, I’ve yet to see the critics present a better candidate for this role: it strikes me that Scott has every qualification and experience demanded of this role, so who is the better or more deserving candidate?

There is a female on Soccor Saturday, ex pro with short spikey hair can’t remember her name.

edit: Sue Smith is her name

Yes thought she was ok but I think he meant one of the 4 main ones whenever they get back to normal .

It was harmless, I'm not really one for going up to people on the tv but a few of the guys and girls I was with did so I joined. She was with a bunch of people and she barely acknowledged us. I just thought it was rude. Fair enough if she didn't want to be pestered but no need to be stuck up about it.

The show needed refreshing, the level of “banter” made it unwatchable. I don’t think that was Sue’s fault, as Tufnell is probably one of the most cringeworthy people on tv.

I’m sure the Union Jack crew were just as as annoyed when someone like Flintoff started presenting Top Gear.

I think it's a bit of an odd choice purely because I don't think she's very charismatic, good pundit, but I've never thought she had the personality to be a main presenter.

Happy for her though, I've not watched the show in about 15 years so it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I'd react the same if a bunch of weirdos came up to me when I was minding my own business.

Those saying she's an amazing, knowledgeable pundit are such bullshitters .

She does nothing different. Same "He'll be disappointed with that/Good time to score/I've seen them given" clichés as every other pundit around.
Fair comment.

She says all the same inane stuff the rest do, she just looks a darn sight better doing so than Souness, Shearer, Jenas et al

I don't believe that, not if you're in the public eye. I find it very hard to believe that you've never approached anyone you've met on tv.

Under a tree.
For the people that keep saying she is excellent, I don't see it, especially as a presenter, what I first noticed about her a few years back is that she doesnt breathe between her words, its like a constant rush when she is speaking, its improved over time but its still there.

People like Isa Guha and Ebony Rainford Brent who have actual pedigree as presenters already would be a better choice imo.

I think she's fantastic. Charismatic but perhaps not as analytical as some. Most aren't very analytical though.

This role will suit her to a T.

Do you have a British or St Georges flag in your twitter pic?
She is terrible, but then again so are all pundits that aren’t named Roy Keane or Gary Neville.

I don't think she's incredible therefore I must be a frothing racist.

Idiot.

On this we certainly agree, but I think because they commentate on much less popular cricket, their relevance is so much lower. When cricket world cup took place in UK last summer, barely anybody outside cricket fans knew it was even going on . I didn't mind, as I like it that cricket is a niche refuge where I can hide in, but pundits from that sport will always struggle to gain national platforms.

Jules Breach is the best female presenter around for my money.

I remember people being annoyed that Sue Barker got the "A Question of Sport" job in the first place because of her gender.
Exactly. Could well imagine McKenzie was frothing at the mouth then too.

Disagree that she is terrible, only slight i'd have is she seems to be quite agreeable. I even hate Neville now though. Can never bore of Keane personally.

No different than the men then. Seriously why does it matter? people get so upset over a woman in football it's ridiculous.

Who says this is anything to do with positive action?

Yeah I thought that was weird.

She’s clearly not the best pundit, but she is carving a niche as a media personality. The show isn’t my cup of tea personally, but good luck to her.

No complaints (or thoughts of positive discrimination) here.

If Michael Owen is named as a new captain, that’s when we riot.

Same boat.

Question of sport has become a "comedy" these days and from what ive seen of alex she doesnt seem to be that kind of presenter but she may come into her own.

Couldnt suggest a better candidate right enough

I'm no SB fan but I'd feel pretty angry if I were her.

She's being sacked for all the wrong reasons and to be replaced by a rookie with zero charisma is pretty insulting. The existing fan base wont watch but the BBC won't care, they stopped considering the public's wishes important years ago.

I felt the same way about Gary Lineker, when he got the MOTD gig but he's grown into it. Maybe she will.

She's a very good pundit. She's put seasoned men professionals in the shade when on pundit duty.

Question of Sport? I think the show is outdated.
