Him and his defensive partner not good enough for this club if we ever have ambitions of winning the title again (which I am doubting we actually give a shit about)
You could get away with Maguire + a fast CB, but you can’t get away with Lindelof if Rio was his partner.

He is no worst than Harry. Only difference is one cost 80m. Why spend 80m on a defender and then need another one to make him seem decent?
Said this all last season to have our defensive record shoved down my throat.

We play a £100mil CB partnership week in week out & theyre shambolic - they play for the club so will get our support but the honest truth is for anything other than a 4th place battle they are nowhere near good enough as a partnership or as sole players.

If Arsenal were fielding them we’d laugh.

We have seen ZERO evidence of this. Maguire was shite at Leicester and has been shite for England too

His reaction to getting yelled at by Bruno is indicative of his false attitude. Spineless, in addition to being shit. With players like this there is no chance of a result on an off-day.

I generally rate him much higher than most of the CAF but today was atrocious.
Misjudged a header in the first 10 secs of the game.
Should have blocked the cross for the first goal.
Should have been much better in th tackle for the second.
Almost put Zaha through with a poor header back to DDG
Only good thing he did was on two 1v1 occasions against Zaha in the first half.

£80 million and captain means a few years of trying different options to hide his weaknesses though.

Once upon a time I posted this picture, it's from the 2018/2019 season and I think it tells you all you ever need to know about Lindelof as a defender. Similar for his reaction to Bruno at the end of last season, he's just a phony, completely soft on the inside. How the hell are we still playing him?

To be honest both Lindelof and Maguire should be our back up defenders but Lindelof is easily the better of the two. The odd(once or twice) time I have seen incisive passing from the back it has been from Lindy yet somehow both of them are chosen ahead of better defenders for that very reason. Makes little sense just like our formation.

Fernandes should yell at himself. You do not go into a new team and start telling players their job, wait a year or two for that.

Ohhh well were are the people who argued with me when I told them he was shit three years ago. He has no good or great attributes, mediocre at everything. Hardman look with no spine. Smalling should be playing for us he is our best CB by far but hey let's keep on keeping on telling us that this guy will turn a corner. Again shit performance and spineless defending for all the goals. He and DDG really do strike fear in our opponents hearts. If this guy plays our next match Ole can do one. Absolutely gutless clown. Bailly should get the starting slot until he gets injured.

People will still argue and tell you that it was all Maguire's fault for the goals today.

I like him as a squad player.

His agent must be brilliant (and getting him here - the Iceman). Creating that Barca story getting him a bumper new deal. I cannot believe even slightly Barca were seriously interested in him.

Lindeloff is weak af, both mentally and physically. It’s been proven time and time again since he got here. No more excuses.

Another limp performance, same from the rest of the defence as well. But lindelof has been consistently poor for quite a while now and the board won't act in signing a new defender that we desperately need.

You’re absolutely right. It’s the same damn thing w him every single year. Strikers physically whip his ass all game long. Weakest cb united have ever had.

The links were very sporadic. They get linked with plenty of players, i don't think they cared about him. Maybe on a free, but i doubt they wanted to buy him, even as bad as they are run, i can't see it.

Dont rate him at all. Too passive, too reactive. Just waits too long, too often. Just doesn't take the opportunities to dictate a phase of play or take charge. Find it hard to describe my issue with him but dont rate him.

Are you serious? What is Lindelof better at than Maguire in terms of actual defending?

Yeah, nor can I. But I do remember it culminating in an upgraded deal.

Reading the game quite clearly. The issue is he is weak as piss

You can’t be serious. I don’t think maguire was worth the 80 mil, but there literally is not one thing that lindeloff does better than Maguire.

At fault or partially at fault for all three goals today. At fault for our EL semis loss recently.

 What’s the point of reading the game if you aren’t going to do anything about it? He reads the game as much as I do from my sofa. We pay him to take action though, not simply watch something happen in front of him.

Come on man. You’re clutching at straws here. No one said Maguire’s great but he can do at least some of the basics of defending.

He's simply too slow, him and Maguire don't work as a pair. We aren't winning a league with him starting, squad player. Being alright doesn't win trophies. He's caused big mistakes in crucial moments.

Which is what Maguire was doing for the first goal.

I’d say he’s weak in terms of grit. I’m sure he’s physically strong. He just very timid. Not exactly a trait you want in a competitive sport.

Lindelof always seemed a reasonable third or fourth option, but never a regular in the XI. I hope today’s disastrous performance disabused anyone of the notion that we should rely on him on a regular basis.

I suppose he could get away with it if he had the reading of the game like Baresi or Maldini (not that they didn’t have that in them, although Baresi was quite quiet on the pitch)

Lindelof hat trick

I want a personal apology from all those Lindelof fans in all those performance threads, who were trying to smash down our throats that he's a misused/misunderstood good player

'Backing off is good intelligent defending'. Feck off.

Utterly disappointed we lost and although I would lay most of that blame on Ole as the team reflects his management, I'm hoping that us losing today means we will see less of Lindelof.

Lindelof got a taste of his own medicine because his defensive partner was playing his role. Aimless, passive, taking no responsbility defending with minimal physical engagement.

Diference is that on most days, Maguire and AWB can hold their own and clears the majority of danger so Lindelof can chill and 'look good' without doing anything.

For even more context, it wasn't even like an onslaught and Linderlof was a one-man defence or being overly exposed. He was just simply sh|te.

They all look scared... This pic shows nothing tbh. Lindelof is a phony for sure though

He's just shit. No need for any deeper analysis and it's not overreaction at all.

He has never convinced me that he's good enough, not even after few decent performances that he had at some point.

You don't see a difference between Lindelof and the others?

Obviously it shows nothing in the literal sense since it's just a split second moment, but I felt at the time that picture perfectly illustrates who Lindelof is.
